Awful unprofessional staff and service
Awful unprofessional staff and service. It has taken 7mnths just to get a survey and now you cannot get in contact with any of the Hackney Homes Wates staff as they ignore emails/texts/phone calls. As a ex employee of Wates It's like they just cannot be bothered with customer service anymore. First surveyor I get to check my social housing home was ignorant & rude and certainly has no people skills, and was asked to leave my home. Then it took another 5mnths to get another surveyor to attend. Now approvals have been made your left in limbo with no idea when or if the works will start and trying to contact them is the stuff of nightmares. Their head office reception is no better, as when they eventually pick the phone up they refuse to even tell you who you need to talk with. It's ridiculous. This is a million miles away from the Wates I once knew & was proud of working for. This lap lustre attitude is a red flag, as if the Wates staff are useless you can bet your last £ the sub contractors allocated will be even worse.
Completely useless
Completely useless! Pa housing Tennant and have a running tap since July. They need to change taps or the bath..I don't really know, sub contractor tried to change taps but couldn't so handed back to wates. Wates then gave a date for today, abd didn't even turn up, with not even a courtesy call, have waited in all day and even checked with PA Housing, this is not the first time I've had problems with this company, they treat social housing tenants like crap, and with no respect.
Unreliable company
Wates group who do repairs for West Lancs council have let me down four times so far,they’ve supposed to be repairing the wall on my rented garage but they never turn up.
Unprofessional company with poor built quality, stay away...
Purchased new built property from them less than 2 years ago. Flooring coming off, defected items never got replaced after several contacts. EV charging bays promised and advertised and missold properties. But, no sign of EV charging at all. Now 2 years aftersale warranty coming to end and their customer service manager just wants to close all the reported issues saying its not their fault. Shocking unprofessional company. Never buy from them.

Shocking customer service
We purchased a house from Wates in 2019. Prior to completion, we compiled a snag list. Not one item was resolved by the time we moved in. After moving in, we extended the snag list to over 40 items. It took over 2 years to get the bulk of these resolved but as we notified them of the issues within the 2 year warranty period, we knew we were within our rights and that it was the responsibility of the house builder to right the wrongs. On numerous occasions we spoke about our staircase, substantial movement and cracking. We had people come out and look at the stairs, a survey done and multiple emails and communications back and forth but were told each time, it’s expected in new builds as there is movement. We accepted that this was a possibility but there was far too much movement and cracking for our liking.
After discussing with neighbours, we discovered that they had the exact same issue, and on one side, their stair had completely collapsed in on itself which was very dangerous as they had a small child. Both sets of neighbours ended up
Paying out of their own pockets to have the stairs fixed and serviced as they had not previously made Wates aware of the problem. Fast forward to this year, and now, 1 of our stairs has completely collapsed and 2 others are going the same way. We have had 2 specialists come out and access the staircase and they both have said that they wouldn’t expect the stairs to be in their current state in a 30 year old house, let alone a 5 year old house.
We have approached Wates about this, not expecting anything back other than their usual handoffish reply (which we got) but my point is, their customer service from day one has been abysmal and I would not recommend them to anyone, not even my worst enemy as they ignore correspondence, have shoddy workmanship and standards and really don’t care about their homebuyers after they have your money! They are building more houses in Cardiff and I really pity anyone who spends their hard earned money on one of their properties as I have no doubt they will encounter similar issues in the near future.

Currently working in a east Croydon job weather has been hitting near to 30 and wates think it’s okay to blast hot air through out the building bare in mind that you can’t open a single window here’s what tops it off yesterday they had the top man for site come to the job and cold air was being blown everywhere now it has left me no option but to report every wates site to h&e wates know they shouldn’t be blasting hot air with us all working but they don’t care about the workers only care about the turn around time
I am a Lambeth tenant left for 4 days without water
I am a Lambeth tenant, i have been without water now for 4 days, wates were supposed to deliver bottled water for me tonight ( 31st July ) as i have no water at all in my house, but have just sent a text saying the job is now completed ! Is there no consequences at all for these companies ? I am sure theyy would say that it is just a 'clerical error' but it is not, it is an outright lie to say that they have done something they have been contracted to do, and simply not bothered and lied about it. 4 days in this heat with no water in my home, i am elderley and all lambeth and wates do is take the rents and contract payments and lie. Is there no consequences for these people ? Clearly not. I also just noticed on the information on this page about wates that they dont reply to negative reviews, one assumes that is because they simply dont give a damn.
Started well, ended disappointingly.
The kitchen fitters were brilliant, did a lovely job. Polite and well mannered, efficient and on time.
I have requested the finishing touches be completed now on four different occasions, being told that they would get it sorted. They never have, they even came out to see me to assure me that these jobs would be completed.
Still waiting months down the line.
I fitted my own floor, I told them that I would prefer to, they said that they would latex the surface of the old floor for me, they never did.
I’m still waiting for the extractor fan cover, it never came.
In all, it’s a shame that the end result was a bit disappointing, because it would have been a lot different had they had done what they said they would do.
Empty promises I’m afraid.

Wates keeps people waiting!
Wates has a contract with Notting Hill Genesis, a social housing provider.An elderly relative living in sheltered housing experienced a leak from a flat above last night. A Wates plumber attended as an emergency but reported the leak as contained, because he couldn’t access the bathroom pipes in the flat above, due to them being boxed in with no access. Yes, the leak was contained by me using containers & a bucket to catch the water which was dripping like a tap! I’ve spent all night emptying the containers and bucket on the hour with little sleep!
This Wates contractor would not be impacted by the leak. My elderly relative is! Our voice doesn’t matter. Apparently his does! Added to that Notting Hill Genesis don’t listen to the needs of their tenants either, but choose to listen to the contractors, who do things to suit themselves, the leak is from a bathroom where the pipes have been boxed in with no access! Cowboys? Turns out another Wates contractor attended mid-morning today & discovered the leak was from the hot water storage tank. Couldn’t the first one have done the same last night?!

Inconsiderate company has no regard for the local community. Wates parks all of their commercial fleet vehicles on residential roads, residents have to park further away from their homes and schools.
I've just had a new kitchen & bathroom…
I've just had a new kitchen & bathroom done with Wates & my housing association. From the first day of arriving I've recieved nothing but respect, politeness and HARD work from each member of the team!.
Intact they've all gone above and beyond to get the work done and of high standard. I couldn't be happier with the end results.
They've come in and cracked on with the jobs, cleaned up as much as possible after, turned up on time and even worked over. Each team member is a credit to the company.
Scott you have a fantastic team with you and you all deserve the credit given. Angela a top lady who got the planning in place and work started quickly. I cannot fault these guys in any way whatsoever!.
The end results are truly stunning!
As for all of these not so nice reviews..I certainly wouldn't believe everything you read. The team that have been in my home for the past 8 days have been nothing but hard working respectful lads.

They have survey my tiles 2 times some…
They have survey some tiles 2 times that need to be replaced ( i had to take days off from work) and third time they ve send a tiler to fit tiles, but he didnt have any tiles. Incompetent company from top to the bottom.

Absolute shower do not use…
Absolute shower of excrement do not use under any circumstance. All appointments are 4 weeks apart including if they fail to turn up. It takes them 6 months to repair a window... it takes 1 month to measure it another month for them to get the part .... they will then not show up 3 times... they need 2 people to do every job I assume in my case 1 person to hold the glass why another applies putty.... I'm on the ground floor ... so they don't even need someone to hold a ladder. Finally I advise you go to night school learn how to do whatever job you have on a course.... because it will quicker than waiting for these clowns to do your repair.
