A rare but valid complaint against Your Best Car
I'm the obvious rare one, as my review of Your Best Car is one of costly disappointment and a warning to others buying a used car during these Covid Times. I brought a 2018 Jaguar XE R Sport from Your Best Car on Friday 22nd December 2020 , exchanging the car for a 2016 Golf GTI. I had wanted a more comfortable car but yet with a smattering of performance that I liked with the Golf GTI, and following extensive on-line reviewing, the Jag XE R Sport seemed to fit the mark. Due to Covid restrictions I had to do most online and via telephone calls up to day of purchase, and all conducted professionally by the dealership, as one would expect.
The first disappointment was that when I turned up, there was only one key available. The salesperson advised that as my alloy wheels of the Golf, which were subject to review, were scuffed, they would not discount the agreed part ex cost if I accepted the 1 key.
The second disappointment came when driving back home the car for the first time. The car was set on Road Line Tracking, something I never experienced before and did not know how to turn off. Then the menu display came up with tyre pressure low. I turned into a garage a mile from where I live and pumped the tyres to the correct pressure. As you know, after Boxing day, we were all put into lockdown. I did go out and drive the car on some short local journeys a couple of days, to get to know her, and figured out how to turn off the Road Line Tracking, but still felt the ride was a bit harder than I would expect, but I thought I just needed to get use to the car.
I returned to work on the 5th Jan 2021 and did my first commute, which coincidently was to Maidstone, only a few miles away from Your Best Car sales rooms. I realised then that the feel of the car was all wrong. There was an uncomfortable vibration that seemed to ride into your head, it was disconcerting. I wrung Your Best Car that day, 15 days after my purchase, so as to bring the car in to demonstrate the problem. I was quickly advised that as it was 15 days, (a day over the law required 14 day cooling off period), they would not receive me back that day, particularly as we were still in a covid lock down and that my best way forward, was to take the car back to Jaguar under warrantee.
I was annoyed, as felt fobbed off, but could not argue, under the circumstances, so did as advised. Jaguar reviewed the suspension, resetting it and their engineer, cleaned them out, whatever that meant. He said he could not locate any specific fault but advised that the tyres on the car where wrong and needed to be a Jaguar tyres, which would improve the ride. They said, before they could do any further checking, they needed to replace the tyres. I also got them to quote for a replacement key. The cost for a replacement key was over £1500. I was shocked. The tyres they quoted to replace was £650. As it happens, I took the car away and sorted the tyres out myself at a cost of £460 from Kwik Fit. The tyres are made by Pirelee and have a J on them, as they are made for the Jaguar XE. After this unwarranted time-consuming debacle, I rung up Your Best Car, asking to speak to the main manager. He called me back the next day and I advised I was very disappointed with the additional cost, in particular the replacement tyres and cost for additional key, and to be frank, felt a bit swindled and asked that he help me with this additional cost that I had incurred, for which he flatly refused, even when I pointed out that I had exchanged the car for a very well looked after Golf GTI, with two set of keys and new sets of tyres that were the ones recommended by VW for the vehicle. But he advised that he had driven the Jaguar himself, before I purchased it, and the tyres that were on the car were legal, even if they were not Jaguar. Not exactly a response I was expecting, because I do know, the car was not driving right. It does make me wonder now why the car was set on Road Assist, which detracts from the feel of the car, as the steering wheel vibrates, something I was unfamiliar with and could not turn off the day of purchase, and that the tyre pressure was down on all four tyres, and two of the tyres I had to replace, were budget tyres. I realised I had been very foolish not to have brought this up within 14 days and had hoped, that given the circumstances, Your Best Car, would have taken a bit more of a better approach with me, but it was a case, we have your money, we’re not interested.
The ride did improve, following this work, but still felt hard. I felt that I was on the threshold of ongoing problems and decided to part ex it in for a C Class Mercedes. I lost a lot when part-ex'ng the car only after two months, however, I felt a weight off my shoulders as believe I had been sold a bit of a pup, as they say.
So, my advice, for what it’s worth, remember that you have a 14 day cool down period after buying any used car, and avoid this dealer.
Car buying as it should be
This has to have been the most straightforward and easy car purchase I have made, despite everything having to be done over the phone initially. A fsir price was given for my trade in and the Jag XE I purchased was absolutely as described. Josh has been excellent throughout, he explained how everything would work with regards to the sale due to COVID-19 measures, and was friendly and professional throughout, no pressure at any point, just really helpful and a pleasure to do business with. I would happily use Your Best Car again in the future.
Sales guys very helpful and friendly
Sales guys very helpful and friendly. This was a distance purchase so did not see the car prior to them delivering it.
In general the car itself was really nice, just a few minor gripes, non of which were addressed. One resulted in me having to take the car to my local dealer for repairs. It was still under manufacturers warranty so only a small cost involved (not refunded).
I guess in summary pre sales great, after sales not so...
10/10 experience
10/10 experience, Josh was very helpful throughout the purchase and you always know exactly what you are getting. My car drives like a dream and I will definitely be coming back in the future.
Absolutely amazing service from Peter…
Absolutely amazing service from Peter in the Kent branch! We purchased a lovely BMW 4 series and the whole experience was trouble free. Peter was very knowledgeable and we didn't feel pressured at all. The car was clean and ready for us when we showed up for the appointment. We were able to drive out in the new car in no time!
Great Experience
I bought a really nice Audi from these chaps. They really cover all bases & have thought the whole process through very careful. Great finance packages for as much or little as you want and they have even set up their own branch to offer an extended warranty period. On going communication excellent too. It’s very nice to know they are on the phone if you need them.
So far very happy with the car
So far very happy with the car, and the part exchange rate given. Ashleigh also helped out with a couple of after-sales issues without any fuss.
No complaints.
Exemplary conduct from Andrew
Exemplary conduct from Andrew, has a passion for his job, very knowledgeable, professional and easy going. We bought a Mondeo here, relaxed process, we were given time to look at the car under cover, no one hovering, test drive, more time to look and ask questions. Good fair price, and excellent customer support and after sales, I can't recommend YourBestCar enough.
Every once in a while something good …
Every once in a while something good happens and makes you feel great. I enquired about a C class coupe, it was a lovely car. I sat and thought about it for a while and when I was ready Josh was very helpful and helped me through the puchase process. There was no pressure, no complicated paperwork, it was all easy and straight forward. I feel very happy with my purchase. Thank you very much guys! Keep up the good work!
