No fragrance once lit

Haven't had yankee candles for sometime mostly because they are so expensive and I’ve been buying different ones in tk maxx instead.

Purchased pumpkin campfire as it was on offer in Sainsburys. It doesn’t smell at all once lit even after hours of burning. Now I’ve seen the reviews I see this is the new normal so that will have been the very last Yankee candle I ever purchase.

Newell Brands destoyed the one great Yankee Candle

Yankee Candle used to be one of the best candle companies in the world. I was lucky enough to discover them before they totally lost the plot. And even then, I read people saying that they weren't as good as they used to be.

I have bought so many, I'll gladly admit I was a total fan boy and bought way more than anyone could possibly need but that was something I had a passion for. I also sold a lot of Yankee Candles at a third party business I worked for and really pushed their product in the store.

What has made me finally decide to do a trustpilot review is due to an arrogant and rude response from them regarding my latest batch of total dud candles but I will get into that later. I want to give a background into their decline over the years and let you understand that there is a good reason to avoid this company and this is not simply a bad review placed after one bad expeirence. The company do not care about their products and they do not care about their customers.

So yes, the quality of candles got worse. Little to not scent, black soot everywhere, tunneling but the prices kept going up. Even with their tips about trimming wicks and using official accessories, more than often the candle was a dud. Albiet a very pretty dud and Yankee used to do the best labels. They released Elevation, the 2 wick soy range and they were amazing. So strong, clean burns...a good alternative to their failing classic range. Then slowly but surely, the elevation range started to perform poorly and have less scent. Yankee was getting awful reviews and giving the same excuses.

Then covid came and Yankee actually blamed the virus and said it was people getting covid that made them unable to smell their products. Funny how covid was very selective in that for most people it only affected Yankee Candle brand candles. Covid did not seem to permantly affect Bath & Body works nor even bargain grocery brands. How odd!

The bad reviews continued and Yankee announced they were launching a new Signature range (Super exclusive - not available in any cheap stores...yet a year or two later I seen some reduced to £6 in Tesco). The range came out and we lost the beautiful labels and artwork but to be fair the first few waves performed like a dream and smelled amazing when lit. A win! Finally, Newell brands had acted on the bad reviews.

And it was all going so well until the Autumn range last year...now the candles can't pool out fully (EVEN WITH TWO WICKS), many don't throw at all and not to mention fragrance choices that defy any common sense at all.

Jam scented Christmas scents (Parisian Brunch), Santa on Skis (Hubba Bubba bubble gum) and all sorts of idiotic nonsense. And even if jam and bubblegum is up your street, the candle will most likely smell of nothing when lit anyway.

I've had ones where the flame once lit the first time has been so big I thought it was gonna break the jar. And I've had ones where the little cheap wicks drown themselves.

I have bought hundreds of Yankees because for some reason I am stupid enough to give them chance after chance and I admit, I wanted them to get better again because when they are good they are great.

I always was honest in the product reviews on their page. If it was a good candle, I praised it. If it sucked, I was honest. I contacted them about mylatest Yankees and Woodwicks which despite the £30 price tag are no more than paper weights as they are performing atrociously and they said as I habe complained before they "suggest I find another candle company" and that they "explained to me how to properly use a candle and they stand behind the quality of theit candles".

So there you have it. ALL the bad reviews on here and elsewhere are the customers fault. We don't know how to use the candles.

Given the money I have put to thos company I have every right to be angry but if this is how you treat your repeat buyers, people who want you to suceed, then I don't know that you deserve us.

No more Yankees for me, kringle and BABW is way better anyway. Just a shame its not in the UK.

This attitude and complete lack of quality control is why your stores even with 50 percent off are closing here flat out.

Thanks for ruining Yankee Candle Newell Brands. It must be embarrasing that a £2.99 Home Bargains candle now performs better than "the worlds best loved candle"

Rant over. Avoid like the plague.

Ordered jigsaw puzzles, sent to wrong address twice …

I saw an ad from them on Facebook offering jigsaw puzzles at a very reduced price. I purchased four puzzles from them. The logistics company they used sent my order to the wrong address twice, the first time to Ohio and the second time to Saudi Arabia (I live in California). When I contacted them, they said they could only offer a 50% refund as the item had already shipped and the shipping cost was very high. I ended up contacting my credit card company and received a chargeback.

Disappointed Long-Term Customer – Quality Has Gone Downhill

I’ve been a loyal Yankee Candle customer for over 10 years. I remember when their candles used to be absolutely stunning — you could light one and the scent would fill the entire house within minutes. The fragrance was strong, long-lasting, and worth every penny.

Unfortunately, over the past few years, I’ve noticed a sharp decline in quality. Despite the rising prices, the candles now produce little to no scent — even after burning for over 2 hours. Some have no fragrance at all, which is incredibly disappointing.

Even more concerning is the amount of black soot the candles now produce. I always trim the wicks, follow usage guidelines, and never burn for more than 2 hours. Yet, the large jars turn completely black within 30 minutes, and I’ve even noticed dark marks on my ceiling. The candles are placed in a draft-free space, so there’s no reason for this to be happening. I’ve reached out to the company a few times, but never received any helpful response.

After so many years of loyalty, it’s really upsetting to say I won’t be buying Yankee Candles again. The quality has simply gone downhill, and it’s no longer worth the money.

Zero stars! Avoid!!

I am at home, awaiting my delivery, looking out of the window for the delivery driver, and at the exact same time an email is sent "saying" they couldn't deliver my package and its being taken to a pick up point! I have a ring door bell, delivery wasn't attempted! and it's now on route to "wherever" to be picked up. Disgusting company behaviour for a supposedly prestigious brand!

Lovely fragrance, but overpriced

I purchased from the site for the first time. Smells lovely and comes as a lovely gift. The only problem being is, in my opinion it’s quite overpriced for what it is. I found the site slightly difficult, when wanting to find the right size; but that is only a minor criticism. I only bought the candle, alongside a joking item. In conclusion I know there’s cheaper alternatives out there, and its value may be in name alone.

Firstly looking at all the bad reviews…

Firstly looking at all the bad reviews on here the customer service is lengthy to reply. There an outsourced customer service mainly get a reply in the afternoon as hours are different especially if you are in the uk! We have had a number of issues with yankee candle due to the candles having little or no fragrance so something has gone wrong with yankee along the line. The price of the candles are expensive for what they are and I believe they were taken over some time again by newell and this is when they went downhill probably due to costcutting at some point hence there fragrance is now low. If you email them with a problem they will require photographs including side view top view sticker underneath with bar code then a reference number you must use for insurance purposes they say if they ever get back to you they will put this is in the email. So my three stars are for replacing some of my candles when they didn't smell but again everyone is the same they send regardless of what it's called the scent is just not there and believe me I've tried a fair few. Such a shame as they they were a top candle brand at some point. 3 stars for getting back to me albeit after waiting a pretty long time and for sending replacements. But I agree with most there are better candles out there at more of a competitive rate to use.

Absolute zero stars

I have been sending emails back and forth with this firm for several weeks now and believe me their customer service is absolutely none existent, I bought one of their expensive candles and it was faulty it would not burn so it ended up in the bin, I explained this to them and their excuse to do nothing about it was because I didn’t send them a photo of the candle they will not do anything about it, that is all they keep saying meanwhile I paid £28 for a candle that would not burn their customer service is a disgrace this is a firm to stay clear of, any excuse to do nothing , I don’t care why it wouldn’t burn all I care about is paying a lot of money for a candle that was not fit for purpose and for a customer service dept that will use any excuse to do nothing

The scented candles now have no scent

For a few years I have purchased scented candles from you and they used to be good (strong scent and lasting). In November I bought four large ones again but we noticed one in particular had no scent at all. As I have a account with you I thought if I let you know you would simply send another, refund me, or give me credit for the one that was faulty, or didn't work.

After calling you I was asked to fill in a form and after completing your form you responded requesting several photographs of labels, serial numbers, the wick, along with hand written paperwork with reference numbers on.
That is a bit ridiculous.

My daughter had actually commented that they are not like they used to be so I should go elsewhere.
Based on your response and our experiences I now agree with her

Dangerous! Don’t buy!!

I bought a wax melt plug in lamp in November and after turning it on for about the fifth time, it sparked, made a loud bang and blew the electrics in the house. I’ve emailed them twice and have yet to receive a reply…. They obviously think this is a safe product to have in your home !
I will be contacting Trading Standards

Glass shattered on first use

I know Yankee Candle will ignore this because they've ignored our emails to customer service.

We bought a Yankee Candle last week and the first time we used it, there was a loud bang and the glass shattered. This could have been a potentially serious injury and Yankee Candle ignoring it says a lot.

Basically being called a liar

I had a Yankee candle that didn’t burn properly took pictures of it sent it to customer service and was accused of not lighting both wicks. I’ve been burning candles over 25 years and being told that by someone looking at a picture has upset me a great deal I’m very unhappy with how I’ve been treated and I will not be buying any more Yankee candles. Why the hell would I send pictures in? If I had done something wrong? I’m not stupid. I know how to light a candle.
