Having booked a taxi to take us to Leeds/Bradford airport at 04.45 for an early morning flight, I checked the day before to ensure that it was still OK. I was told that a driver had been assigned and all was OK. At 04.50 I phoned as the taxi hadn't arrived. I was told that the driver had broken down miles from anywhere. I was told that they didn't have another taxi. Having said that, it was unacceptable, as I had the flight and accommodation booked, so for me to try to find a taxi at such short notice was probably impossible. Somehow, I'm not sure how, as I was on the internet seeking a lift to the airport, a taxi arrived - not sure if it was one that I had contacted or whether York Taxis sorted it. The driver told me that there were 8 taxis waiting for a booking; he believed, as I thought, that the "fact" that my driver had broken down was a lie. On taking this further days later, York Taxis changed their excuse and said that the driver had a family emergency and had gone home without telling anyone. Clearly, you can't believe what they say. Don't book this company, especially if you need to get to an airport for a flight. When it was just Elite taxis, it seemed to work well, never had a problem with them.

Unreliable and poor communication. Booked for 8.25 for emergency visit for poorly cat. When at 8.35 i chased them up they said I was in a priority queue and my driver had not even been assigned to me yet. I was not warned of this an hour prior when I booked or while I was waiting for the driver. Nearly missed vet appointment. Caused me and the cat a lot of distress, i ll never again use them again.

What a wonderful taxi driver me and my children had this morning,so much so driving dangerousely close to my rear bumber and giving swearing signals in view of my rear mirror and even my 9 yr old,12yr old and 13yr old children,this man clearly needs anger management classes what a discraceful.company,i will be reporting him to leeds city council too,registratiilon number mx17 ovc,liscence number 22301 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

My parents ordered a return pick up from Leeds Bradford airport booked in advance received messages with dates and time on. arrived paid cash at the airport, on arrival back into the country they rang to say outside the airport to hear they hadn’t sent a taxi because they had no paid on the app. To which they had no idea to do and do not use technology and can barely make a phone call. Had to find a taxi at the airport to bring them home absolutely appalled

Booked a job the day prior for 20/05/2026 at 3pm specifically to avoid issues, knowing 3pm is rush hour. Despite this, I only received a message after 3:20pm saying the driver was on the way.

I spoke to the driver, who stated the job had only been assigned to him minutes before I called at 3:15pm. Very poor communication and dispatch management.

Unfortunately, due to the delay, my daughter missed her piano lesson.

The taxi was booked to get me to the garage to pick up our car after it's service. First operator told me 15 -20 minutes for pick up. 20 mins passed so I rang again, he said he would try and get it in the next few mins. No taxi showed. I rang to cancel and the second operator said I should have been told an hour !! She confirmed it was cancelled then the taxi showed up 15 minutes later and I had to send away their very grumpy driver because the service garage would have been closed by the time we got there!! Very poor service indeed.

Excellent service from York Cars. Came to the city for a few days, left the car at the hotel, downloading York Cars App, paid online, kept up to date on the progress of the drivers arrival.

Hi. Called to book a taxi for asap around 13:26 pm from the co-op haxby to Clifford's street and was shocked and happy my taxi arrived within 10 minutes. Driver was very helpful and friendly and was very happy to with the journey and route he took. Please could you let the driver know how happy I was with him,as I can't remember his name. Thank you again. I will be using you in the future 😃

Dreadful experience. I pre-booked a taxi the day before for a journey to the train station, but it never arrived at the scheduled time. The app then showed a 30-minute delay and said it was still searching for a driver. When I phoned, I was told rather curtly that the taxi was just dropping someone off and would be a few minutes. After waiting another five minutes, I had no choice but to leave on foot to catch a bus so I wouldn’t miss my train. When I tried calling again, the call was cut off. Very poor customer service, especially given that I had clearly booked the taxi to catch a train. I will not be using this taxi firm again.

Stay well clear of this firm, straight forward Journey no issues at all BUT without talking the driver added extras for no reason whatsoever. Called the company to question this. Hung up on me 4 times

Ordered cab to station. Called when 10 minutes overdue and got told when they have a cab they will send it! I had booked this three hours in advance!

What can I say that's not already been said here. Ordered a taxi through the App at 2pm for pick up at 4.45pm, didn't turn up till 5.25, second time in a row now.
Have Been using York cars for many years, this now ends, I was against using Uber for the sole reason of keeping it local,a taxi is preordered for a reason because people need to be somewhere at a specific time.
Going to now try the Uber app as my mates use them & don't seem to have much of a problem.

This company has proven itself to be unreliable, misleading, and entirely dismissive of its customers.
I booked a prepaid taxi for 12:30pm. The payment link they sent didn’t work, yet instead of alerting me immediately, they waited until 12:25pm, five minutes before pickup, to tell me the payment had failed and that no taxi would be dispatched until I paid again.
When a driver was eventually assigned, I provided clear directions because my home is difficult to locate. These instructions were never uploaded.
The driver reached the village 55 minutes later, unable to find me because he still had no directions. I was told he had “called many times,” yet I had no missed calls at all.
Control instructed him to return, and he did but once again with no instructions, meaning he still couldn’t find me. After this second failed attempt, he simply refused to come back. I only learned this when I called the office myself to ask where he was.
At this point, I had been waiting over 90 minutes, had already paid and was told there would be at least a further 30-minute wait for yet another driver. In other words, I was left completely stranded with no realistic prospect of being picked up.
I have still not received my refund.
To make matters worse, I later discovered that prepaying does not reflect the true cost. They charge based on the route the driver takes on the day — something they never disclose. When their drivers take the long way round, customers simply pay more. I was charged over £10 more than quoted on my daughter’s last school pickup for exactly this reason.
Despite numerous assurances, no manager has ever called me back.
This company repeatedly demonstrates:
• Drivers who are not given essential instructions
• Poor communication and limited English
• A willingness to abandon customers and refuse to return
• Unexplained and undisclosed additional charges
• Failure to deliver the service paid for
• A complete absence of accountability or customer care
No customer should be treated this way. This is a taxi service that cannot be trusted, and people deserve to know that before booking.

1 star is more than this company deserves. I’ve never come across such a joke of a business. They don’t deserve your money or time. They don’t care about their customers.
They left a disabled pensioner who had pre booked a taxi morning and afternoon for 5 days getting anxious and scared. It was freezing cold, they were always late by nearly an hour and at times not turning up at all! If you rang up they wouldn’t know your booking and would basically lie and say it’s a few minutes away or drop your call.
If you need a reliable ride to get you to a place on time whatever you do DON’T CHOOSE YORKCARS the worst taxi service in the world!!

I was kind of hopeful for a local, competitively priced alternative to uber. The trip was a let down, the app didn’t show an allocated driver for ages so myself, partner, and elderly grandparent stood waiting for ages.
When I rang customer service they picked up the phone without a greeting, I didn’t know they’d picked up at all.
The driver on getting in asked me if I was happy if he was on the phone to a friend, to which I agreed I was happy with. He then loudly said something, then again, and again, it transpired he was in fact talking to me and then had the audacity to call me rude for not replying.
He then proceeded to flout speed limits (doing above 30 in a 20 - though he was very cautious of the limit when passing a police van), tailgate other vehicles adhering to the speed limit, and he couldn’t keep his hands off his second phone; texting or interacting with an app between his legs. The heating was set so high everyone in the car began to feel ill, and eventually we ended the trip early to avoid feeling totally sick.
Next time I’ll just walk. Deleting the app and won’t be using again.
I’ve also just realised they added a waiting time or extras payment to the fee which was not made obvious at the time of booking. Bit of a scam really.

Easy to book, gave a fair estimate, good price, arrived on time, driver friendly.

Booked taxi for son's wedding two days before for 10 am he arrived at 10 15 which made my day quite stressful. Luckily all the lights were at green and we did get there just to find that the brides parents were not there. They came rushing in only to find out that their taxi was also late not a good advertisement. Needless to say to go home we all ordered an Uber

I've used this company for years, but the last few months have been painful. Had to cancel rides 3 times as a driver wasn't available for over 30 minutes even with pre booking. It's a shame as every journey before this has been great, lovely drivers, quick routes and a reasonable fee. Tried to keep using this local taxi firm but after this month, they've lost another customer, then they wonder why people use companies like Uber? Least you can get a driver...

I have been on a short break in York since 22nd June and have used this service several times a day to various locations. The cars have arrived on time, despite the road works, diversions and temporary traffic systems. The drivers are friendly, well presented and very professional. I do not hesitate to recommend this service to my friends including family. Thank you 🌹

An absolute rip off do not use a £65 ride cost £95 pound as they said no people carriers available . So had to have 2 cars. 1car ok 2nd car a people carrier. Then they blamed it on me and said I was a lier I had not booked for 5 people even thou I had rang to check , and taxi drivers screen said 5. paid £95 for a £65 journey totally ripping people off . Lucky our drivers were up front and the people carrier said he had been available for over an hour…our honest drivers pulled up and put us in one taxi or it would of cost £130 for their mistake. Complained to management and got told I was a lier and spoken to like shit. Stay away from this company. The drivers were the only honest people I suggest they get a new job with a decent company. Obviously desperate for money they have to rip people off .
