Auctioneers lot
This is the first time i have bought anything at a on-line auction and it was so easy even for a i.t.dimwit like myself,i was so pleased with my lot and payment was so easy, when i went to collect my lot a delightful, courteous and helpful young lady sorted everything for me,sadly due to my ignorance i did not ask her name,i can only recommend these auctioneers and i will surely using them again.
Over the years
Over the years, many auction houses seem to have become increasingly money-driven. Customer service, friendliness, and genuine helpfulness often feel like things of the past. Too often it’s simply: “Thanks for the cash, here’s your stuff, goodbye.” Sadly, that has left me with more than a few disappointing experiences over the years.
Driving up to Newcastle from Leeds — only a couple of hours away — was a refreshing contrast. From the moment I arrived at A & G, I was welcomed with professionalism, warmth, and genuine courtesy. Dare I say it… actual friendliness. Even a coffee was offered, something that used to be common years ago but now feels increasingly rare.
There was a time when a cup of coffee, a biscuit, or simple hospitality was just part of good business. Nowadays many places seem to want all the cake while also “taking the biscuit” with excessive fees and impersonal service.
So credit where it’s due: A & G reminded me that professionalism and human decency can still go hand in hand.
Thumbs up to A & G — 5 stars from me.

I recently had the pleasure of dealing with Anderson & Garland Auctioneers and was very impressed. The team offers a professional yet friendly service, making the whole process smooth and approachable.
Communication was excellent, and their knowledge and willingness to help really stood out. Remote bidding is also simple and convenient, with clear support whether you’re bidding online, by phone, or via absentee bid.
Overall, a welcoming and reliable auction house that I would highly recommend.
Excellent customer service provided by Anderson and Garland Auctioneers
Hello I am a customer who participated recently in one auction organized by Anderson and Garland Auctioneers and I won the Lot that I was bidding. The Company straight away sent me an email with the notification and the invoice of the product. Everything is well explained and also they offer a delivery of the Lot in my address in London. I accept this and I payed the invoice of the Lot plus the invoice of the delivery togueter and it was very easy to do it. Today they sent me and email to inforn the Delivery Company picked the Lot and they are going to send me in the coming days to my house. Excellent customer service for Anderson and Garland Auctioneers, you have a happy and satisfied client.

Good first experience of buying from A and G
It took a little while to get registered and pass security checks as I had a little gremlin in the system. I sent an email asking for help as I could not get it to work, full marks to Becky who called me before the sale and helped me get the system to work for on line bidding as I was 200 miles away. I bought the little item I wanted but needed more help with how the posting/delivery system worked, a couple of calls to A and G and another very helpful lady explained how the system worked. I was rather worried about my item as it being about 175 years old and having survived unbroken getting damaged in transit, full marks to mail boxes Newcastle, as the person who packed it must have read my mind as it was packed really well with lots of protection and arrived safely so thank you to the mail boxes packer also. Regards, Glyn(Shropshire).
efficient after sales service
The fastest service I've ever had from an auction room in terms of despatching lots. Normally one can expect to wait two weeks or more; in this case auction was on 14 January, items despatched 15, received 16. Thank you!
Thanks to Helen for her shipping…
Thanks to Helen for her shipping solution after being quoted a ridiculous Mailboxes postage quote of £51 for three books.
They are a wonderful company who bend…
They are a wonderful company who bend over back ways to facilitate and please their customers. I have been dealing with them for the last 5 years.
A failed business,
Unfortunately, very bad.
I've dealt with them more than once
When it was delayed in receiving the goods, storage was added at half the bill value.
Even though I told them I had a problem with our sorcerer
But,but He was very badly treated
My Flat is Full
I can see c20 things bought from A&G over the last 15 years, just from where I sit. (My ex wife's house is full of it. It worked.)
They have moved up market in what they deign to sell. I think that is a shame and a mistake. It isn't only the wealthy dealers who now access the internet, or country house inheritors who want to offload stuff.
They have raised fees to 30% on buyers and sellers. Roughly speaking that means if they sell something for £100 they get £63. Less VAT. Nice work.
I miss the pre-internet, "Lovejoy" days when the salesroom was full of dealers and you could pick up 40 lb of solid Victorian walnut (card table) for £25, or a Georgian full height corner cabinet for £50.
Today I received an oak Victorian Metamorphic Library chair... for less than 1/3 the price that a London dealer would sell it on for. But I have wanted one for 50 years, so what is £500 for a dream.
So. The staff are lovely and friendly, the prices are what the prices are. I have bought some bargains and some valuable items, missed by their experts.
Beautiful antique furniture is still much cheaper than IKEA.
Disappointing
Efficient in taking stuff away to sell but no care in how it was sold. Bundled into incoherent lots and virtually given away
Completely exaggerated claims on values
Total lack of communication and then an email out of the blue more than 2 years later wanting to send our items to charity - they were valuable when pitching for the business but not now apparently
Quick delivery
I bought a drawing at an auction online on Thursday for a decent price, received the invoice the same day and also paid for shipping. The drawing was collected in a plastic envelope from the auction house on the following Monday, packed by Mailboxes between sheets of polystyrene in a cardboard box and posted. It arrived in London before 1 pm the next day, as advertised. All very efficient.
remarkably easy to pay & ship my item
I'm in Texas while the auction house is in the UK. It was remarkably easy to pay for my item (via credit card not money transfer as is typical) and the auction house arranged shipping for me.
Never to sell an item again
Unfortunately, we received a poor evaluation and unreliable price of an item. We got estimated this violin for over £100 to £200 for a violin but we were given too high expectations as it realistically only came to £40, which I understand sometimes that's how auctions go, but it would've been better to be sold on Ebay. They never told us the estimation will be below par. We are very disheartened and disappointed, and we will never give them another item like this again.
