Buyer Beware!
Having been a happy customer of AutoAid Breakdown for a good few number of years after having seen them recommend online I'm being forced to leave this negative review sadly.
Our policy auto renewed yesterday without my say so made worse by their reminder being flagged as spam/junk so it wasn't seen. We called them up to say this was no longer required and I didn't wish to renew. Their response was to charge us 35% admin and cancellation charge despite us cancel the policy on the same day it renewed.
Bear in mind we've been a customer for many years and would have continued to be so once the free breakdown cover with our new car expiries later this year.
This is very short sighted of AutoAid breakdown because the way they have dealt with this is to rip us off for cancelling. How can you justify a 35% charge?
As a result we will not be using them again in the future and I'd sooner pay a higher price for better service with a company that values it's long standing customers.
Worst customer service ever
Worst customer service ever, I will never take out another policy with AutoAid again
Great service
It was straightforward to report my vehicle’s breakdown, and I received assistance within a couple of hours. Our engineer Orlando was really knowledgeable, seemed to know exactly what the problem was straight away, and had all the equipment onboard to fix the car there and then,
Fantastic service
Recently joined and had cause today to use for a home call out. From logging the incident on the app to mechanic arriving took 20mins! They sent Reeves Rescue of Ampthill and the chap from there could not have been more professional and friendly.
First class service
The lady I spoke to at Auto-Aid was extremely efficient & polite in her manner. The breakdown truck arrived within 20 mins of my call. The driver, Grant, was polite, humorous & (myself, being a retired fitter/engineer) knew what he was doing.
We broke down on the side of the A1 on…
We broke down on the side of the A1 on the afternoon of 23rd December. Autoaid had someone to tow us to our destination within an hour or so on what I guess is a very busy evening for them. They also kept checking in with us to see that we were still ok.
Amazing value and service
We have broken down twice in the past 6 months and each time AutoAid were absolutely brilliant. Constant information and updates. The first time we were transported to our local garage 70 miles away. Last week we were given a courtesy car and our vehicle brought back 3 days later - Christmas Eve and over 200 miles. Thank you so much. Great value and great service.
Recently used this breakdown company…
Recently used this breakdown company after being a member for 5 years and I have to say the service was perfect, from the initial phone call to a polite, cheerful lady on the phone who professionally dealt with my problem. (clutch had failed) Had to pay by card £25 as the car was over 10 years old ! The breakdown vehicle arrived but we could not push the car out as other cars had blocked my car in. Not a problem, the company phoned for a car lift lorry, I had to wait a bit longer, but hey it arrived and took the car to my garage of choice. Thanks to all involved, and without hesitation recommend to all.
Cancelling Auto Renewal
I don’t auto renew anything so wanted to opt out. If you use the tab in their FAQs, it just takes you back to the members log in page to log in using your DOB and postcode. So I logged in but I found no link to cancel so went to FAQs while in my account and again it directs you back to log in again even though you are already logged in! Tried contacting them at autoaid breakdown dot co dot uk. You receive an auto reply and it tells you that mailbox is not monitored. On this auto reply there is a link to cancel auto renewal and again, you just go back to the members log in page, log in, find no way to cancel it and and go round in circles again. Tried using hyperlink on their reply e mail and didn’t work. No other contact e mail address for AutoAid on their website so e mailed RCIB to an address I found by googling it. They got someone from AutoAid to e mail me and they said I couldn’t cancel auto renewal because I’d already cancelled it at my last renewal! If that was the case then their e mail AFTER I’d renewed shouldn’t have stated that they will use my card details to do auto renewal next year! I’m not convinced, but have kept their e mail in case they try to do auto renewal next year. One useful bit of info they gave me, is that if anyone has to phone to cancel auto renewal they don’t make a charge for doing so. All a bit of a faff but I’ll judge Autoaid on how they perform if I ever have the need to use their breakdown service.
Five years - Very happy!
I have been with Autoaid Breakdown since 2018 after seeing a very good promotional offer of 15 months for the price of 12 months.
I have been a member of AA, RAC, Greenflag and others since I started driving in 1997. Each one has let me down once or twice which is bad enough but they also keep increasing their prices!
I needed assistance recently and Autoaid were absolutely fabulous from start to finish!
I was kept updated on the progress of the recovery vehicle ETA and when they arrived (bang on time), the lad was very helpful, kept me informed about what was going on and was polite, friendly and professional!
I look forward to renewing and by the way, this year I actually paid £5 less than last year!
Not so good
Injured my tendons so took my motorcyle off the road (SORN) etc. MOT expired. Went to get MOT and get back on the road but I had a puncture.
They wouldn't come and help me because I wasn't taxed or MOT'd.
Thanks a bunch, Autoaid. I'll remember this when you send me the renewal notice.
The Company workers? Great. Their operatives? Awful.
The telephonists for the company are great and the price is low, but the second part becomes apparent when you need them. The companies they get to do the jobs are awful.
I’ve had my policy nearly 2 years and the first time I called them out was July when my tyre burst on a dual carriageway. 4.5 hours we waited, with the truck always apparently 10 mins away, for the last 2.5 hours. Then when it got to us, it took an extra hour because he went to another job with us in the truck!
Now, I’m on my own, on a back road with no street lights an hour from home, and was told Weston Recovery would be with me ‘between now and 60 mins time.’
Again, the telephone staff do a great job and called me back on the hour to ask if they were there. They were told no, so put me on hold while they called them.
‘Sorry; they’re going to be another 45-60 mins’ The recovery company had my number but couldn’t even be arsed to let me know. So here I am, lone female (who has already been approached by two men whilst sat here - I’m sure they were only trying to help but it’s quite frightening when you’re on your own and it’s pitch black) and now they have another 15 minutes before I’ve been waiting 2 hours.
What’s the betting there’ll be another excuse as to why they won’t be here and couldn’t be bothered to let me know?
I don’t care how cheap their cover is; if it’s shit then I’d rather pay more and get an actual decent service.
Alternator failed in Scotland
Alternator failed in Scotland. No hope of fixing within a couple of weeks. Autoaid were fab. Recovery - sorted. Hire car-sorted. Kept us informed from start to when our Figaro camper was unloaded out side my house in Nottingham.
Won't be renewing membership.
Reported a flat tyre at 15.35 and was told that mechanic would be with me by 16.40. Three people rang me to ask if mechanic had arrived but they didn't arrive until 18.10.
Luckily, I was at home and not stranded.
Promised that 'Customer Care' would ring me to discuss my experience - needless to say they didn't. Have cancelled auto-renewal and won't use them again. Also surcharge of £25 as car is more than 10 years old. No idea how age of car is of relevance to a puncture.
Appalling.

Appalling. My wife called for recovery due to a gearbox/clutch problem - unable to change gear when moving at any speed. She explained her concern about trying to drive home safely, some two hours away, including motorway traffic. Local technician took the car round the block and declared no fault. My wife was left to nurse the car home, pulling over to change gear. Could easily have caused an accident! Complaint rejected by both Auto Aid and Right Choice Insurance Brokers - both dismiss the importance of the safety issue reported at the outset. We will be taking further advice. Avoid.
Very Pleased
Used Autoaid today to change a puncture as I could not undo the wheel nuts with wheel brace arrived within the hour and put spare on , great service , have personal cover for wife and myself so covered in any vehicle we are in a lot cheaper than the other 3 👍
Read Auto Aid Terms and conditions before purchase.
I purchased my breakdown insurance from the Money Saving Expert website in August as they said Auto Aid insure cars 10+ years old. I purchased the insurance online for £64. Today I thought I might need the insurance and opened the document to find they only cover cars up to 15 years old. I asked to upgrade but that was not possible. I asked if I could transfer the cover to someone else. This was not possible. I asked that the policy be cancelled as neither car was covered. I was given £6 back. This company should be avoided at all costs.
Read terms before buying a policy
Took out the policy to start in a couple of weeks, got the details through and read the terms and conditions, didn’t like the T’s&C’s so, as in the 14 day cooling off period I rang to cancel. The charge to cancel (while in the 14 day cooling off period off, and before the cover started) was £25!
I was stunned, lady on phone said you should’ve read the terms before taking out the policy
She’s right, but I didn’t, so review is more a recommendation to check the docs before paying.
Autoaid breakdown recovery.
Called autoaid today as my transit broke down. I received a message within a minute stating who would come to rescue and a time of arrival. The gearbox link had snapped so I knew it could not be repaired at the roadside. A recover vehicle arrived within time 45 mins from Kingsbridge Auto Repair. He loaded my van and took me home straight away. The driver could not have been more helpful and gave me advice on how to fix. Excellent service from Autoaid and KAR. Whilst offloading my van I received a nice call from Autoaid asking if the recovery had taken place. I was 2 miles from home and in a little over an hour my van was back on my drive. Now enjoying a beer. Thanks to all.
I did it all from the autoaid app. No phone call and no waiting.
