Poor customer service and bad filter

The filter never worked despite trying to prime it dozens of times using different methods. From day 1, took 2-3 days to fully empty making it useless. I was shocked at how rude the customer support was. They said they refunded me and when I checked, it was a whopping $7. Eventually they offered a "full" refund, but it was still not a full refund. Buyer beware. If the filter had worked or if they would have sent a replacement for their defective product, I would've been a long-time customer, but unfortunately will be switching to a different brand. Reading reviews, I see I am not the only one that's had a similar experience.

This filter doesn't remove enough TDS

This filter doesn't remove enough TDS. After boiling the filtered water, the water gets very cloudy with many mineral residues floating.

Our filters are not made to lower the TDS reading of your water. TDS meters don't actually detect all dissolved solids; they measure the electrical conductivity of water. Any electrolyte (e.g., calcium, magnesium, potassium) will increase the TDS reading, because the presence of electrolyte ions will increase the conductivity of the water. Our filters are not designed to target those electrolytes that are beneficial minerals.

TDS meters have been marketed as a way to tell if your water is clean or not, but this method of testing your water has a few issues that, without more information, make it unreliable as a measure of water quality:

• First, it only detects parts per million (ppm). Some contaminants are unhealthy in much smaller amounts like parts per billion (ppb) or even parts per trillion (ppt). It is for that very reason that we test to ppb and ppt in some cases. (You can see the full Lab Results here.)
• Second, since TDS meters generally only detect ions, a high reading assumes that all electrolytes are bad. Essential nutrients like calcium, magnesium, and potassium are electrolytes and are big parts of what make water healthy!
• Third, it will not detect other contaminants (e.g., benzene) that are not electrolytes but are still harmful to your health.
• Fourth, organic compounds, like benzene, actually make water less conductive–they increase the resistivity of the water. For example, the conductivity of water decreases when there is a big oil spill. So when organic-compound contaminants are removed conductivity increases. This means the TDS meter, which measures conductivity, will register an increase when the water is cleaner!
• Fifth, mixing with the CO2 in the air during filtration and pouring causes CO2 to dissolve in the water, which forms carbonic acid. Increases in carbonic acid in water also increases the conductivity of water, which may register as an increase in a TDS meter, even though the water did not become more contaminated.

Since the Affinity Filtration Technology used by Clearly Filtered filters is an ionic absorption process, there is a chance that the water molecules and various minerals that pass through the filter are actually electrically charged differently once they pass through the filter. We have seen TDS readings that are higher once the water actually passes through the filter, further showcasing the idea that using TDS is not an accurate means of determining water cleanliness.

As mentioned, any non-electrolyte will decrease the TDS reading. You can actually test this yourself by measuring a glass of water and then pouring sugar into the glass, stirring it, and measuring it again. As you add sugar (an organic compound), you will see that number drop. (We conducted this experiment for ourselves, which you can watch here.)

Simply put, there are many reasons that a TDS meter may show a higher reading after filtration through our products that have nothing to do with increased contaminants–and, in fact, it may even indicate that your water has less organic-compound contaminants.

I don’t think it is worth it

The filters seemed to be ok at first. The pitcher is cheap thin plastic and the little flip up thing on the front broke off washing it. After my two filters I noticed this white residue on my coffee kettle that wasn’t there when I used bottled water. My third filter came and it looked like someone scraped it on the cement. It wouldn’t thread on to the primer or my pitcher properly and leaked. I emailed them and they asked for pictures which I sent back. Then they emailed me wanting video of it leaking. By then I already threw it away because it was soaked leaking on my counter. They never offered to replace it and told me I needed to hold onto it until troubleshooting was finished. There is no troubleshooting something that is destroyed and won’t screw on. I am a machinist and deal with threads on a daily basis and understand how they work.

Refrigerator Filter

In line refrigerator filter made a big difference in the taste. Water taste much cleaner. Hopefully it removes the chemicals they claim that it does. Very pleased.

Source of Family Water Quality

We started the journey to better water quality after the city we live in added chlorine and other chemicals to the municiple water. Clearly Filtered Company offered the best system to meet our needs. We started with the pitcher filter, and than added the inline refrigerator filter. The taste of the water immediately changed. This year we added the under the sink filters to help with cooking water. Love the subscriptions as it is on a yearly cycle, as not to lapse in our family's water quality. Thank you for your productsm and service.

Inline filter

We bought the inline filter and it was easy to install and prime. My next sip was noticeably better. The water just tasted cleaner and our ice cubes were clearer. Overall, the decision to invest in a Clearly Filtered product was a decision to take our health more seriously.

Best tasting water ever!

I have been a Clearly Filtered Customer for many years and used the water jugs. Last year I decided to purchase the under the sink filters for the cold water. So easy to install and replace the filters. I've never tasted such great water and I'm not a fan of plain water. Now with Clearly Filtered I am. As a cancer survivor, it is important for me to drink the best water ever. I highly recommend the Clearly Filtered products. Everyone is always attentive to my needs and questions. Don't even consider another filtering system--there is only one: Clearly Filtered.

Im a senior woman living in an apt with…

Im a senior woman living in an apt with about 500 ft sq...the kitcfhen has very limited counter space. The under sink filtration systems are not allowed, and with so little space, the other on the counter systems were not an option...I had tried other pitcher systems, but found them to be unsatisfactory. When I found Clearly Filtered about 5 yrs ago I had done extensive research into pitcher systems and found that CF filtered out nearly 100% of all the harmful chemicals...I am especially interested in drinking water that is free of flouride, chloride and toxins like pesticides, herbicides and heavy metals. I was grateful to find out the testing facility is a third party (not in-house).

To clarify, I have been using this product for over four years during which I've had a couple of questions and found the customer service is above and beyond...

The team at CF are knowledgeable, friendly and genuinely there to help..I might also add they don't out-source to another country...so everyone, of course, speaks English--always a plus in my book..

I live alone so since a filter will clean up to 100 gallons, I only have to change it every several months. another plus, as the filters are one of the higher cost items in my budget

So until the powers that be stop spraying our skies with poisens, and contaminating our underground water sources, I will continue to budget within my small Social Security money to continue using this company and their products

It’s a piece of junk it broke in a…

It’s a piece of junk it broke in a month. It takes an hour for the water to be filtered and you can’t access the water until it’s finished filtering. It’s also soooo heavy and very hard to handle. I tried returning or asking for customer service and they wouldn’t offer me anything they were extremely unhelpful. Save your money don’t buy this filter.

Buyer beware

I ordered a 3 pack of filter replacements for my pitcher. They arrived all scuffed up with a black film around the top of the filter. I figured I could live with the scuffs, but tried to wash off the black film. Not knowing what it was, I didn't want it to contaminate the water. It wouldn't wash off, so I emailed customer service. I was told it was perfectly normal for scuffing and black film to be on there......horrible customer service!!!!! If they are going to be selling a subpar product at these prices, I'll look elsewhere for filtration! I've wasted enough of my money!

Good tasting water - the MOLD issue

I have had many water systems over the years. I am very serious about water quality and what I drink. In the reviews, Clearly Filtered is one of the few that actually takes out plastic and many other nasty chemicals and contaminants. I decided the cost was worth it and wanted to get the plastic out of my water! I have used the pitch thru 3 filter changes. The water was good! The ONLY issue is that this last time, there was a musty smell and I noticed mold growing around the seal. I was very surprised as I do not fit the top on the container tightly so there can be some air circulation!! Clorox did kill the mold, but I have decided I can not have a water filter with this issue. And this filter is VERY EXOENSIVE. I am one person with a dog and you go thru a lot with this pitcher to get water, and now there is mold!!I am going to find another solution. Probably time to find a real system that is not mold susceptible! I am very allergic to mold.

Clearly filtered aka Clearlycrooks

If I could give them a 0 I would, but that is not an option. The company refused to give me a refund for water filters that I never received which amounted to over $100. Customer service told me that in order to receive a refund, the filters had to be "returned to sender", how can I return a product that I never received in the first place. I stopped further filter orders until I get a credit to my account. What good is their product if they charge you for it and don't send it. Maybe the company should rename their company to Clearlycrooks, that would be more accurate as of this writing.

Unhealthy system

Please be careful with this product and company. I experienced mildew smell and taste with the water filtered through their filter. They tried to say that it must be something in my water. My water does not have that smell or taste. The smell and taste was only In the water filtered through their filter. I have another filtering system and that smell and taste is not there. I complained and asked for a refund since it was affecting my health with diarrhea, bloating and gas. They denied it saying it was past their 30 day refund policy and they could have done it.
When I stopped using their filter the problems I was experiencing have gotten better. I will never use their products again. Not healthy and too expensive.

Happy Camper W Clearly Filtered Since December 2019

I have been a customer of Clearly Filtered for over 4 years.

I have always had great customer service when I call. When my pitcher broke after a year, they replaced it free. When a filter didn’t work (at all), they replaced it free.

Yes it can take several hours to filter water, but you have to remember the filter is 8 layers (or stages) thick!

My daughter now has my original pitcher and I bought a new one when I moved to my apartment. For my daughter, it’s just her and my granddaughter. For me, it’s just me. But I can go through about two pitchers full everyday. I drink about 120oz/day. So I bought a plain water dispenser that sits in my fridge. Once the water has filtered in the pitcher I pour that into the dispenser. I always fill my pitcher at night so it’s ready to go the next day. In the meantime I use the dispenser for my already-filtered water.

Customer Service once instructed me (when I had the filter that did not work) to soak the filter completely over a 24 hour period before installing it into the pitcher. Works every time!

So,
1 cracked pitcher replaced for free after 1 year
1 replacement pitcher over 3 years old
1 new pitcher over 3 years old
1 bad filter out of 20+ over 4 years both households
1 filter lasts 6 mos or more even with the heavy use in both households

I would recommend Clearly Filtered. It does the best job that the other inexpensive 2 stage filters can’t do.

The only thing I would change is for Clearly Filtered to have a larger variety of containers (like the dispenser I have) and larger insulated flasks.

THE WORST customer service

THE WORST customer service. My replacement filters got lost in the mail. CF could not have cared less. smh I DID get a refund -- only after 20+ emails, over two days, when I screamed. I don't think the 'filter' is all that good anyway. I am done doing business with them.
