Crete

Crete. Genuinely dangerous car and they also lied to us when we tried to make complaint.

Disgraceful company. Still lying to us now. Headlights did not work properly and we were told car was due to be taken out of service for the last 2 months.

What a terrible place to hire a vehicle…

What a terrible place to hire a vehicle from. Took ages was constantly on his phones whilst I was waiting to get a car allocated and when it was the car was too small for the luggage and we had to change models. They did not have any automatic cars and the cars they did have were not maintained correctly - on the way back we stopped for fuel and the assistant (not self service) pointed out that I needed air in all the tyres which were all around 20 PSI instead of 32 which is what they should have been. Don't use this operator if you can possible avoid doing so!

The disgrace of car rental companies

The disgrace of car rental companies. At Herakleio of Crete island, they tried to fee me with 100€ for a scratch I didn't do. After 1 hour of arguments and yelling, they claimed that they searched and looked at the contract of the previous driver of the specific car and that the scratch was already there, so I didn't have to pay anything.. Most employers were really rude and with ironic attitude. They didn't even care to apologize for the inconvenience and all the trouble that have caused.
Really really bad. Stay away.

Europcar Corfu airport

I am writing to you with great regret because I am finishing my vacation in Greece (started on 19/6). The reason for my complaint lies not in the end of the holiday but in the fact that two operators of the Corfu airport turned me around. They claimed at the time of collecting my car that my license (issued in Italy and valid until 2020) was not valid for circulation on Greek roads. They solved "the problem" by selling me for cash (with a credit card it would have cost € 200) to the modest sum of € 180 a policy with which I would, they say, have been able to circulate on the roads. Tonight I stopped a patrol of the Traffic Police who confirmed to me that my license is ABSOLUTELY valid for circulation. Which I was pretty sure of. I am really disappointed that a serious company like Europcar can tolerate the misconduct of some individuals among its employees. It's really shameful! Danilo Piacenti

stay away from Europcar

Booked a car 3 months prior our trip to Athens, on the day of our arrival, we had a 2hr delay with our flight and for that reason i called at the number that i had found on the europcar’s site (0030 2109211444) to inform them that we were going to be late. I have given them flight’s number, reservation name, arrival’s new time everything. When we went to pick up the car NOBODY knew anything about the delay therefore kept us waiting for about two 2 hrs in order to help everyone else before us and then they’d help us. Finally at 2am they have given us a car which ofcourse wasnt the one we had initially booked. That car rental is a disgrace stay away save your money!

Beware of their insurance scam!

Beware of their insurance scam!

After having carefully studied all the different alternatives regarding CDW / SPCDW covers prior to my departure from Switzerland, I arrived at the Europcar counter at Larnaca Airport back in November 2018.
Everything seemed to be ok, but the extremely friendly sales agent “convinced” me that I needed an additional cover for possible scratches on the underside of the body as well as for road assistance. As it was getting late, and I still had to drive all the way to Paphos I finally agreed to be charged an additional EUR 124.- to end the argument. The next day, when reading through all those terms and conditions again, I immediately emailed them, asking for this unnecessary “cover” to be cancelled and the amount in question to be refunded. I suspect that part of their scheme is to reply with a computerized mail, saying they’d reply asap (which they only do after one month’s time!). I spent a lot of time, mailing Larnaca (as well as Switzerland, where the initial reservation was made), but to no avail. In the beginning, they provided me with vague answers, and when they ran out of valid arguments, they simply decided to ignore me. Larnaca finally said that the problem was being handled by Switzerland but the latter argued that they were unable to judge the situation in Cyprus.
The attitude of the person who signs as “customer relations / customer success and satisfaction” is arrogant and inhospitable. The department’s name is evidently sheer mockery!
From other reviews, one is lead to suspect that the sales agents must be financially incentivated when they succeed in nailing customers with unnecessary insurance covers.

Europcar Greece charges me 340euro for…

Europcar Greece charges me 340euro for some demage I didn't do and even saw when I got the car, the method is not to draw anything on the paper you got with the car damage indicates every thing, they just don't indicate anything and then they can say you have a damage here and there but actually you already got the car damaged.
My two cent tip is to make photos of the entire car and to make them draw anything that is unusual, any small spot or bump...
I had bad experience but luckily got covered by Rentalcover company.

Be aware that they apply a maximum age of 75

Be aware that they apply a maximum age limit of 75. It's buried very deep in the terms and conditions, in a phito in a paragraph where the text refers only to a minimum age. We booked via EasyJet, and there was nothing in the t&C's there, but when we arrived to pick up the car they wouldn't accept the named driver. Luckily I had my license or we'd have been stranded with no access to our accommodation. We also got a smaller car than booked and I'm sure it had a problem with a driveshaft or wheel bearing, judging by the noises. I didn't believe the start mileage either, which was less than that on the papers for its last check . On the plus side, we have always found the staff at Chania airport very pleasant, with no sign of the rip offs others have reported. We have never had a very recent car though, and they wouldn't change the one with an airbag warning light and non working Aircon that we had a couple of trips ago

I visited Kefalonia with my girlfriend…

I visited Kefalonia with my girlfriend and rented a car here for 2 days. We were offered 50 Euro insurance but declined because we had purchased external insurance. The car was inspected by a Europcar team member and scratches and marks were noted. The underside of the car was not inspected. We were EXTREMELY careful when driving around for 2 days. Upon arrival, the car was inspected and we were told that there was a scratch on the UNDERSIDE of the car and 300 Euros was payable. I can guarantee you that not only did we not cause this scratch, but that the underside of the car was NOT inspected properly in the first instance. Please see the photo of the scratch I was charged 300 EUROS FOR (thank god our amazing external insurance covered this- RentalCover.com)

AVOID EUROPCAR. SCAM. THIEVES. EXPENSIVE. POOR. KEFALONIA

AVOID EUROPCAR AT ALL COSTS.
Europcar are thieves. We have been left with no refund and no car. I will be taking legal action upon my return from the holiday. Staff unhelpful and rude in Kefalonia.
We had to make alternative arrangements with another company called CBR. CBR were amazing, no fuss, cheaper prices, no insurance up-selling etc. I am still waiting for a refund from EUROPCAR!! Let’s see what happens.

Do not use europcar

Went to pick up a car at the start of the holiday. As soon as I arrived they immediately pressurised me to purchase the 100euro extra insurance. When I said I wasnt worried about the excess for the CDW the attendant said the main problem I had would be scratches which would be charged at 225 euro each and that they WOULD find some and that there was no excess and possibly unlimited charges. As it was the start if my holiday I didn't want the hassle, I paid the 100euros.
Whilst the car was fine, I disagree with their selling tactics and how they use this to artificially increase the price of the car. I will never use europcar again and will never recommend them. This is a really poor way to treat customers!

Awful experience .

Awful experience .. Stay far away from this company. They tried to accuse me of damage I had not done. They then went along and charged me 310 euros for a stone chip on the rear bumper. Clearly no damage as they kept mentioning. This is the last thing you want after a holiday. Cowboy workers the bunch of them in the office. The women was especially rude. Will take this up with the company.

Do not book through Easyjet

Booked a car through Easyjet as I was booking flights. When we arrived to pick up the car they wouldn't give it to us because the driver didn'thave a credit card on them. They refused to use my credit card or take a cash deposit. Now trying to obtain a refund through customer services. We ended up using Hertz, where we got a car immediately, no credit card required.

Great value for money

Very pleased with Abby Cars. Both the pick up and the return procedure in Athens Airport were problem free. I particularly appreciated how accommodating they were when we ran late for our return, especially since it was an out-of-hours return and they had to be in the office just for us. The car was very new and, so, in pristine condition.

Awful awful awful service (Corfu…

Awful awful awful service (Corfu airport Europcar)! AVOID!
1. They listed themselves as being within the airport. We specifically needed this as we had people arriving on different flights over the course of an hour. But then we found we had to get picked up and taken to a separate location to get the car, meaning the driver could not just sort the car stuff out while we waited for the others. Then when the others arrived, we had to wait half an hour more for Europcar to collect us and take us to get the car.
2. When we arrived at the office to collect the car - they had lost the keys!!! We had to wait over an hour in the bar next door while they looked for them. They bought us each one drink as an apology. Then the bar got a lot more money out of us while we waited, and waited, and waited! We were eventually given a dirty car.
3. Tell the truth about the fuel policy. I specifically chose a Full to Full fuel policy option. But when we eventually got the car, it had just over 1/4 tank left. it was then hard to work out how much to fill it up with to get it back to the same level, so we spent extra.
4. Beware the insurance scam! I was aware of this and had already paid £16 for excess insurance, but they managed to find a loop hole meaning we had to fork out an extra £175 for their own insurance for a week. Our options were to either pay it, or not be allowed to take the car, which cost £240!

I would strongly strongly advise to steer well clear of this place. We will be going back to Corfu, but there is absolutely no way that we will use Europcar again.
