Narrator Offred is a Handmaid serving the Republic of Gilead – formerly part of the United States. Her role is to bear children for her Commander, whose wife is unable to conceive. If Offred refuses, she will be hanged or sent to die of radiation sickness in the Colonies. Yet she can remember a different life, when she had a home, a husband, and – most agonisingly – her own child.

This is a perfect edition. The beauty and elegance is perfect. When I had it signed by Ms. Atwood, she felt compelled to show me her favorite illustration plates and admire the beauty of the full volume.

Book quality is simply outstanding, as with all Folio Society volumes. They seem overpriced to some people, but for those of us who really love books, there is nothing better; so, for me, value for the money is equally outstanding.
