There’s a lot that doesn’t bear thinking about. Thinking can hurt your chances, and I intend to last.
Narrator Offred is a Handmaid serving the Republic of Gilead – formerly part of the United States. Her role is to bear children for her Commander, whose wife is unable to conceive. If Offred refuses, she will be hanged or sent to die of radiation sickness in the Colonies. Yet she can remember a different life, when she had a home, a husband, and – most agonisingly – her own child.

The illustrations are fabulous. However the printing of the name on the spine is a bit imperfectly done. The red of the "Handmaid's Tale" seems to bleed out onto the grey. Also, it is printed in China, which makes me not love it quite that much.
Excellent manufacturing as always and beautiful craft
Another superb edition.
Love the illustrations and the format of this book.
Excellent condition
Lovely book
Gorgeous book!
Stunning and haunting illustrations. Very fitting accompaniments to the story.
Beautiful edition!
Beautifully designed and presented. Excellent Customer Service. Will buy from Folio Society again.
I love illustrations from the Balbusso twins They are always on point, whilst managing to retain their own signature stylistic touch. My only request is that there are more of their illustrations included in each book.
One of my favourite novels, and this edition helps me appreciate it even more, and fall in love with this work of art all over again.
Gorgeous copy of the book! The cover design is so pretty! Everything seems really well put together and is a great addition to my collection
Don’t tell Howl’s Moving Castle over there, but I much prefer this book’s texture to that of Howl’s. I have never read the Handmaid’s Tale before, and I am excited to get absorbed in Margaret Atwood’s chilling tale. I’ve only read a bit of this copy since it came in, and (now, I don’t know if you’re supposed to read the introduction BEFORE or AFTER reading the novel, but, well, here we are) Atwood’s commentary in the introduction which, as far as I can tell, was written in 2012, is absolutely chilling, knowing where the US is today, in 2020. Her comment that the abolishment of liberal democracy will come about through the “use [of] the name of democracy as an excuse for abolishing liberal democracy” is chilling (a side note: I have loved the UK and Great Britain ever since I was young. I wouldn’t mind emigrating from the US to the UK...). I am eager to read the rest of the novel. From the images, my god are they gorgeous. I haven’t looked at any more than in the preview and on the cover and first page. But they’re wonderful.
