Awful company… make you completely fool. Lots of hidden charge and they are not insurance company they are broker so you will end up paying double fees.
The worst insurance company I have ever…
The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with, I put all my information in correctly and they sent me all details which are correct and took my first payment then sent me over 15 emails and 7 tx messages for me to confirm the mileage I will be doing and my occupation and a list of other things and then told me I need to pay a fee to amend the policy even though all
Details were correct they pulled from
The comparison website old details but they have changed and I clearly put this in my policy before I confirmed and paid, I feel this is a scam website and no one will speak on the phone it’s only through a million emails and because I refused to pay the fee they want me to cancel it for another £80 I didnt want to use them as the customer service is terrible and they are completely wrong to try and charge me for something I have never changed. I put my occupation and they have asked for proof of this which I can provide but they are saying I changed my occupation so need to pay a fee??? I see other people have had issues and I should have definitely checked the company before I let them take my money and try and charge me for more
Don't be tempted to buy car insurance from Hedghog
Do not be tempted to buy car insurance from Hedgehog. For a start, they are a broker not an insurance company. They seem to operate under an insurance company based in Gibraltar and, in the circumstances, I have serious doubts if that particular insurance company have any authority or control on the Hedgehog activities in this country.
Their modus operandi is to offer a potential customer a very competitive insurance quote. Then try to pick any mistakes in the information the prospective client has provided in order to penalise him/her a ridiculous amount of extra fees. In my case first they accused me of not quoting the date for an offence correctly followed by accusing me that the driving ban ensuing that offence was for 9 months not the 1 year ban that the court had decreed. When I told them that the driving ban begins not the date of the offence but the date the court ruling came into force and that the 9 month dr. ban was after I had attended a relevant course they went quiet. Followed by the observation that my date of my conviction could not have been 1923 (or 1929!), an obvious typo on my part, since I was born in 1947. In all they asked me to pay an extra £206 on top of the £386 they had originally quoted. I decided to cancel the application for cover with Hedgehog since I had plenty of time to take out cover with another reputable company
Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible. Only can communicate by email and they don't rely properly or explain charges etc until after the fact. Had an awful experience with them where they said getting one rate of insurance and then proceeded to keep charging extra. Then they said it wasn't then and contact the insurance agency they suggested and they replied saying it was hedgehog. Then they said couldn't change the amount despite initially saying it would decrease. They offered to cancel the policy with hour cancellation fee but instead have sneaked other fees on such as a renewal fee even though I ended up with one day of insurance with them. So that is £90 for one day of insurance! Stay away. Con artists!
Terrible.
I would strongly advise anyone considering Hedgehog Insurance to look elsewhere.
My policy was set to auto-renew. On Sunday, the payment attempt failed and I immediately received an email notification. I logged into my account straight away to update my payment method — only to find the payment form on their website was broken and simply didn’t work.
Hedgehog does not provide a customer service phone line, and their live chat is closed on Sundays. In other words, when their system failed, there was literally no way to contact them or fix the issue.
The following day, instead of attempting to contact me or retry the payment, they simply allowed the policy to lapse. No phone call, no attempt to verify details, nothing. To make matters worse, the live chat option had now completely disappeared from my account.
For a company that sells a legally required financial product, this level of inaccessibility and system failure is completely unacceptable. If their automated systems break, there appears to be no human backup at all. That’s not just bad customer service — it’s a fundamentally broken way to run an insurance company.
Avoid. There are far better insurers in the UK that actually provide functioning support when something goes wrong.
The worst insurance company there is
The worst insurance company there is. Customer service is awful, they dont know what they're talking about. And claims department refuse to pay out on a 15 month old claim when they have no reason not to pay out. Wouldn't ever use them again. Absolutely appalling company with zero standards.
Competitive
This has been by far the worst company…
This has been by far the worst company I have ever had to deal with. The customer service is nonexistent — the live chat doesn’t work, emails go unanswered, and my policy was cancelled without any prior notice or explanation, with an £80 cancellation fee applied.
I definitely, definitely, definitely would advise anyone to avoid this insurance company. I can’t believe how poor the service is — there is absolutely no customer support, and it’s been extremely frustrating to deal with.
Honestly
Honestly
The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with , they harassed me for documents over the Christmas period
Proof of my no claims which I had to wait to get from my previous insurance company
They were so rude
They demanded my V5 form which I had to send by 31st of December I sent it on the 31st and they cancelled my insurance
They took an initial payments of £71 and are now demanding cancellation fees of £182 for something they cancelled.
Never in my 30 years of dealing with insurance companies have I ever experienced this

Hedgehog to the rescue
After many problems with online insurance companies who provided quotes to comparison sites but failed to follow up I found Hedgehog who seemed to want my business at a sensible price (I'm 81 with no claims since I started driving in 1961).
Hope all goes well.
This was a good experience from the…
This was a good experience from the beginning. The insurance quote for my elderly car- and equally elderly driver- was fair and realistic. Any questions I had were answered almost immediately by personal email. That was really helpful. Two people stand out- Emily and Rory . Both were polite and helpful as well as happy to explain any questions or worries. I have to stop driving for a while and this was dealt with accurately and helpfully. A refund was made almost immediately with no questions or details asked for. I will be re insuring with Hedgehog as soon as I am able. I have already passed on details to friends looking for a more reasonable personal service
