So much easier for us than a skip

It was so easy!
It's hard for us to fit a skip on our property and there's lots of double yellow lines around so we can't get a road permit. But we put the hippo bag in our garden behind a wall next to the road, filled it with the load of concrete and soil from a garden project that we're doing and booked a collection. Then a couple of days later I looked out of the window and noticed it was gone. Hadn't even seen them arrive or leave!
Saved us wheelbarrowing a lot of concrete down the road to the nearest non-double-yellow-lines which is what we would have had to do if we'd booked a skip!

We will definitely use them again and we'll recommend them to anybody

Slow pickup, beware access restrictions

Took 6 days from requesting collection to the bag being picked up, but otherwise good. The square sides mean more capacity than an equivalent skip. There's also no limit on how long you can keep it before collection. Be aware that the collection lorry is bigger than many skip hire lorries, so there are strict conditions about how far from the main road you can leave the bag. I've had skip companies come down my drive in the past but the Hippo lorry would not fit.

Simple to use with prompt service.

The website was very easy to use with straight forward instructions. Our bag was collected really quickly after booking. A great service. I also loved the fact that we could collect the bag from our local Screwfit.

As of today I am still waiting for my…

Edit:- Here we are on the 15th of May with no end in sight. I was promised collection yesterday or today. However no notification of collection so can only assume they are going to let me down.

Original review:- I am now having to pay another company to remove their bag.

All in all the customer service has come across as extremely uncaring. They appear to view me as an annoying customer rather than considering why I might be annoyed.

As of today I am still waiting for my megabag to be collected. I’ve called, I’ve emailed, I’ve tried reasoning, I’ve tried complaining. Nothing. They have zero interest in getting back to me. Absolutely shocking customer service given that I have been a regular customer for a couple of years. Last four pick ups have been a disaster. I won’t be using them again.

Not trustworthy

Terrible. Do not trust them to pick up your bag.
It's been 9 working days, 4 phone calls, and still no bag pick up. And the best they can do is 'oh we will note it on the system'.

this was my first time using a hippo…

this was my first time using a hippo bag - went for the mega bag as some of the items i was getting rid of were long > bag delivered next working day and received it before bank holiday weekend which meant i could start clearing the junk sooner - managed to load the bag up by the Saturday and booked collection over the bank holiday - was very happy when the lorry turned up weds morning - driver was very friendly and didn't take long in craning the bag out of my garden - dont think ive enough junk to fill another one but if i did i wouldn't hesitate in using this service again and happy to leave 5 star feedback and happy to recommend HIPPO BAGS to anyone

A fabulous company to get rid of excess…

A fabulous company to get rid of excess waste.
Once booked for collection, usually given a week to collect however they collected the day after. The bag was inside my garden however I did not need to be home

Not as convenient or cheap as they say it is.

Supposedly the more convenient version of a skip but, in practice, this is far from the truth.
The bag itself is more convenient to acquire - they just post it to you. Other than that you are better off getting a skip.
The bag is a fair bit smaller than a small skip for not a lot less money.
It's trickier to fill it effectively as the whole thing flops about as you are trying to do so.
The worst part is collection. Apparently Hippo have the biggest and most inconvenient collection lorry available so despite everyone in my street having had a skip dropped off and collected from the back lane at some time, Hippo couldn't collect my bag, which I was charged £84 for failed collection.
I now have to pay for a real skip, which I should have just done in the first place.
Don't bother.

We understand why this has felt disappointing, especially when you were expecting a more convenient alternative to skip hire. While our bags can be easier to deliver and store, we appreciate that they will not be the right solution for every situation and we’re sorry this was the case for you.

In relation to access, we would like to clarify that our collection vehicles are significantly larger than standard bin lorries, and we do not advise that a collection can be completed solely because a bin lorry has previously accessed a road or lane. Access suitability is based on our vehicle requirements, which are different to skips and refuse vehicles.

That said, if you were advised otherwise at any point, either on the website or during a phone call, this is something we take very seriously.
If you were told that collection would be possible based on bin lorry access, please contact us directly and ask to speak with our Customer Service Manager. We are more than happy to review the details and listen back to any relevant calls.

If incorrect advice was given, we will happily refund the £84 wasted journey charge.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback, as it helps us improve how we communicate and set expectations, and we would welcome the chance to review this properly with you.

I have had my Hippo Bag on my drive for…

I have had my Hippo Bag on my drive for 2 months and this was fine until I booked a collection on the 8th April. I was told 5 working days. No-one came and I then called to question why. I was told the driver turned up and there was no bag to collect ?? I asked the customer service lady to send me a photo of my driveway. Yea, you guessed it. It wasn’t even my house that the driver went to.
She apologised and promised it would be collected shortly. Tomorrow will make it 3 weeks since I requested a collection… STILL WAITING
