Awful

Awful, John Lewis sub contract their service and basically just attach their brand name to sub contractors.

The company that came to give us a quote were unprofessional, were half a day over thier scheduled time, then took only 2 minutes to assess the job (british gas and other companies took a couple of hours) and didn't even bother to send us a quote in the end.

Stay away.

WELL DONE SIMON AND JOHN LEWIS

Simon arrived for what will be at least one more visit. I had booked four hours’ garden tidy and from the moment he arrived he worked like a beaver on what is a very overgrown front garden. His attitude was extremely friendly and workmanlike. What more could you ask. Well done John Lewis for an extremely reliable service, backed by their guarantee!

I had a morning appointment to hang a chandelier

I had a morning appointment 08:00-13:00. However l was contacted by the electrician to say that he was running late 13:00-14:00. The electrician who turned up was not the one l had booked, but another who worked for the company. A courtesy call to inform me of this change would have been appreciated.

The electrician was extremely polite and professional and did an extremely good job of re-hanging my chandelier to my satisfaction. The only quibble l had was l would have expected him to clean up the debris he left behind and not expect me to automatically do it. I have had John Lewis HomeCare wall mount my tv and they were most insistent about cleaning up after themselves.

So back to the job at hand in order to get 5 stars please stick to the appointed time and clean up any mess that you leave behind.

No show for appointment.

Have used - or tried to, twice

First time. Excellent. Handy Man. Turned up promptly and did job very well.

Next job- gardening in South East London. Matthew arranged to come and quote within a 4 hour slot. Had taken day off work to be there . NO show. No phone call. When I rang the Home solution number about an hour after the agreed time slot to check I was told he might be able to come within an hour. The word "might" was strange. If he cant be bothered to turn up , or call to say he is delayed, to quote how reliable might he be for the work!!! Avoid this one. Disappointing as very pleased with first use of service.

Landscaping by Golden Gardens

The work done by Golden Gardens was excellent. Their people were professional, tidy and punctual. The raised beds were of the highest quality. Great value for money.
Home Solutions from John Lewis were efficient and friendly. The ordering and payment were made very simple and I would use them again.

Job well done

I had a small plumbing job that needed doing and I was struggling to find a plumber to do it. Home solutions provided a competent plumber at a fair price. He was a good tidy worker, job well done.

Garden help

I found home solutions by happy accident. I wanted a big garden weed and tidy. The professional assigned to us was fantastic. Owen worked his socks off during the 6 hours I booked him for. He was very knowledgeable and took care of plants within the mass of weeds. The estimate was kept to and I couldn’t have been happier. Home solutions is now be the site I go to first when searching for professional help around the house.

extractor fan

I tried on two occasions to get my extractor fan replaced and twice I was let down.
Too small a job to come out to apparently.
Then you emailed me with "sorry you cancelled your booking with us".
Not great.

Erik is very professional and did a fantastic job. He gave perfect solutions not just for plumbing issues but for thermostat as well as ventilation. He kindly spent his time to fix and explained everything I concerned. Will definitely use this service.

Awful business model.. avoid

The job was done to a very high standard but I really have to question the business model. So not John Lewis in their approach to customers.

I enquired about a job (tap installation) to be told it had an estimated price of £69 (based on 1 hour of labour). The contractor came and did the job (really nice guy, worked quickly and without a fuss). At the end of my job I was told that he had to increase the price of the job to £75. Ok, I thought.. not ideal but not enough to make a fuss about.

I then received an e-mail saying the price of the job had been increased to £120. I called up customer services, and they agreed that I would only be charged £69, because I hadn't agreed to this change before the work happened. They didn't explain the disparity between £75 and £120.

I discussed this with the customer services agent (who was really nice, helpful, and honest). I was told that if I had been given a new price and I chose to decline it, the original price would still be charged even if no work was actually done.

This is an absolutely ridiculous business model. Nothing should be charged without assessing the work and the customer agreeing to it. If this is not the case, JLHS have a duty of care to tell customers that this is a risk they take on.

This is very disingenuous of John Lewis - I expected so much better. My advice, unless you have £70 ready to spend just so that a contractor can come and look at the work needed, is to completely avoid this service.
