Visited JD Gym in Birmingham and won’t be going back. The layout makes no sense – equipment feels crammed in and it’s hard to move around when it’s busy and the overall atmosphere just felt chaotic.
For a big-name gym you’d expect better organisation and upkeep. Really disappointing experience

I went to JD gyms before the refurb and I really enjoyed the amount of weights in the women’s section. Upon my return, most of the weights/machines have been taken out of the ladies section and replaced with treadmills. I am very disappointed because I enjoy lifting and don’t want to have to go in the main gym to do it. That’s what sold JD gyms to me in the first place.

Title: Locker hogging ignored by staff - JD Gym Birmingham
Loads of men’s lockers in changing room have been locked with the same personal locks for close to six months, making them unavailable to other members.
Staff are fully aware of this and have chosen not to act. The ongoing locker hogging is obvious, particularly as the same locks appear night after night.
This is poor management of shared facilities and a constant inconvenience for paying members. Enforcing basic locker rules or removing long-term locks should not be difficult, yet it continues to be ignored.
This is a regular ongoing issue. Is anything going to be done despite the constant reminders?

It is absurd that you are unable to register for a gym class online or via the app. You have to be present 15 minutes before start time to sign up in person and are not guaranteed a place. At peak time, when the gym is already over capacity, this makes it extremely difficult to access the sessions. Something advertised included in the price but almost impossible to get onto. There should be a system where if users fail to attend an online booking twice, they are banned for a period of time from accessing the sessions.
I also cant believe the standard of the toilets at peak hours, they are so unkept by gym users its off putting to use.
At peak hours the gym is very busy, almost too busy to use the gym itself.

Your women’s section is rubbish and it should be way bigger and have proper equipment

Reply from JD Gyms - Birmingham
The women’s area really needs an upgrade; more weights, barbells, and benches would make a huge difference. Right now it’s mostly cardio equipment, which can easily be done in the park if we’re being honest. There isn’t enough gear for glute work or proper strength training. It actually used to have equipment like a Smith machine and a glute machine, and losing those was a step in the wrong direction.

1. Hip thrust machine is not available in the mens section, on inquiry, been told that it has been moved to the women’s section (cannot be accessed by men).
Why have one machine that’s constantly moved around for a 3 story building.
2. Bathrooms are barely maintained, smell cannot be tolerated by most members.

I am glad this gym has a ladies section. The gym has a good selection of equipment. It has a cardio section and then a separate weights area.
The sauna is a really good addition.

Still not able to get in I've been joined now for about a week and I like to go around 1am and I can't get in. I've tried calling them in the day no one answers and I've sent email no one has responded. This is terrible

I have had a very positive experience at JD Gyms Birmingham. The gym is well equipped and has a great atmosphere. I especially appreciate that the women-only gym area has been expanded, which is fantastic as it allows more space and access to equipment. I really value being able to train comfortably without being interrupted or asked how many reps I have left.
The staff members are friendly, approachable, and always willing to help. Their professionalism and support make it a motivating and welcoming place to train.
