Dear JD Gym Management,
I am writing to formally raise several serious concerns regarding safety, hygiene, staffing, and equipment maintenance at your gym. These issues are ongoing and have reached a point where they can no longer be ignored.
1. Lack of Personnel and Safety Concerns
There is a clear lack of staff presence, particularly in the changing areas and sauna. I am speaking from personal experience when I say that both physical and verbal altercations occur frequently. This appears to be a direct result of no personnel actively monitoring or enforcing proper conduct.
The sauna is regularly misused by members who enter fully dressed, wearing shoes, headphones, and often immediately after training. This is unhygienic, unsafe, and goes completely unmanaged.
Additionally, there are frequent instances of people sitting in the changing areas seemingly waiting for opportunities to steal belongings, as there is no staff present to deter or address such behavior. On more than one occasion, women have been observed taking pictures while others are changing clothes, which is a serious breach of privacy and safety.
2. Hygiene and Cleaning Standards
Cleaning standards are extremely poor. Facilities are neglected, with broken and unhygienic items such as toilet brushes left unattended. The overall condition suggests that regular cleaning is not being carried out to an acceptable standard.
The studio floor, particularly where spinning and classes take place, is visibly dirty. I find it difficult to understand how this is considered acceptable in a fitness environment.
3. Broken and Neglected Equipment
All spinning bikes have been broken for a long time. I cannot recall how long they have been unusable, despite having informed the manager previously. No action appears to have been taken.
The boxing bags have also not been replaced for many months. This has significantly affected my husband’s ability to train. He has been a member since the gym opened, exercise 4less,subsiquently JDGYM, uses the gym primarily for boxing. Due to the lack of functioning equipment, he is now considering leaving the gym entirely.
4. Classes and Instructors
While I personally enjoy the classes offered, it would be highly beneficial to have a greater variety of instructors for cardio-based classes. More diversity would improve motivation and the overall quality of the class experience.
These issues impact not only comfort but also member safety, hygiene, and the overall reputation of the gym. I am extremely disappointed that repeated concerns have not been adequately addressed.
I expect a response outlining what actions will be taken to resolve these matters promptly.
Kind regards, Rachel
great availability of equipment/range of equipment, everyone is polite and minds their business, what more could you ask for

The equipments are outdated and some are missing parts, and similar equipment is currently placed on both the ground and first floors. They should be located in the same area so that when one is in use, the other—positioned right next to it—can be easily accessed instead of having to go to another floor.

Disappointing..
Showers Closed After Midnight in a “24/7” Gym.I joined JD Gym because it’s advertised as a 24/7 gym, but it’s really disappointing to find out that the showers are closed after 12 a.m. If the gym is open 24 hours, the basic facilities like showers should also be available around the clock.
For people who work late shifts or prefer to train at night, this makes things really inconvenient. It doesn’t make sense to promote the gym as 24/7 when members can’t even use the showers after midnight.
Overall, very frustrating experience and not what I expected from a national chain. I hope management reconsiders this policy or at least makes it clear when signing up.

Too long awaiting for equipment, parking spaces restricted, again too busy

Equipment need to be improved and to be repaired

Hi. Generally an ok gym, but there is some bits I find a little weird. There is no stops on any of the bench press benches, which seems a bit of a health and safety issue.
The changing rooms are also pretty small for a gym this size.

Honestly a great gym in many aspects, my one and only note is that some of the equipment is a little dated. Not to the point it greatly hinders the gym experience but the experience would be taken from an 8/10 to a 10/10

Women’s toilets not clean. Sanitary bins overflowing & tissue paper all over the floor.

Kamile ran the circuit class last night, it was so much fun. She gave clear instructions and was happy to go through any exercises we weren't too sure on.

My fully paid first month subscription was cancelled by JD Gym within the first week because I cancelled direct debit for subsequent months, even though first month was already fully paid with credit card. Have been chasing JD Gym for a week now to rectify but no action. This warrants a claim in Small Claim Tribunal in addition to this review.
The reply from JD Gym completely skirts the issue that the first month subscription is already charged to my credit card (and has nothing to do with direct debit for subsequent months) and the access stopped after only 5 days of use?

Love this gym, as a “gym” it’s not the most up to date or well equipped but if you’re looking to do classes it’s great, the instructors are fab. Can’t beat it for the price.
