Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 80 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the food, noting issues like dry, overcooked, or inedible items, and even finding foreign objects in their meals. The service was also a frequent point of contention, with people reporting long wait times, staff being overwhelmed, or even rude and aggressive interactions. Additionally, many found the prices to be too high for the quality and portion sizes received, especially for drinks and certain menu items. However, some customers also noted positive experiences with the staff, describing them as friendly, helpful, and efficient. A few other people also felt that the food, while not exceptional, was acceptable or even delicious in some instances, and appreciated the efforts of certain employees.

Over priced drinks and slack service

Over £6.00 for a gluten free Peroni. Only had it as they didn't have alcohol zero. 1 small.bottle...joke.

Service for food was awful. We waited more than 40 minutes for dessert. Mine came out with the ice cream looking like cream where it had sat and melted on the side. They exchanged it but the melt in the middle pud had previously melted and reset. Really disappointing as the main course was very nice.
Overall very slack. Tuesday afternoon pub was completly empty so didn't understand the lengthy wait. Avoid more so when they are busy I dread to think !! Bear inn Street Somerset

The best carvery we have had.

We had a great experience at The Skymaster Warrington. It was one of the best carverys we have ever had. David made our experience even better, he could not do enough for us and he is definitely in the right job. He is so good with the public! We will definitely be back. A big Thankyou. ⭐️

Rip off Marstons

Just visited the Foley Arms, first time for a while, used to be a regular there.
This brewery are clearly taking the piss, £5.65 for a pint of San Miguel!
That's a whole £1.25 dearer than the Cat & Fiddle just over a mile away.
Not only is the Cat a better establishment you don't have to have a 4 wheel drive off road vehicle to navigate the car park such are the pot holes in it!
Marstons summed up, rip off prices zero for service and up keep of their establishments. Vote with your feet and go elsewhere.

We will not be back

We had never been here before, but expected it to be the same style as other well known chains, we were not disappointed, the menu was virtually identical, and prices too.

The place was virtually empty on arrival at lunch time, with very few cars in the car park, some likely to be staff, the table we were sat at was very sticky, using too much cleaning chemical and not washing it off properly causes that, my phone actually stuck to the table.

There was a sign on the bar saying food would be 45 minutes, which considering there was hardly anyone in there, was a surprise, however it was not 45 minutes before the food appeared, but it was not far short. The food it's self was not bad, my steak was well undercooked for a medium, it was charred on the outside and that was it, raw in the middle, I ate around the edges and my better half ate the rest, they are a skip, and will eat anything.

The rest of the food was ok, no other issues there, we ordered two bottles of still water and were given glasses that I would be embarrassed to give to anyone, they were filthy and badly scored in the dishwasher, and yes they were not polished after they come out, as I polished both with one of the tiniest serviettes I have ever had, and they got rid of a lot of the marks on the glasses.

The place seemed to be clean and tidy, but the same could not be said for the outside, it was overgrown, the grass had not been cut in ages, signage advertising the Easter menu, or what ever it was advertising was on the ground behind a hedge so no one could see it.

Overall it was not bad, but bad enough to not go there again, we did not appreciate being accosted by staff half way through the meal issuing us with a card to leave a review, we came for a quiet lunch, apart from the kid crying and screaming for a short period it was quiet as there was hardly anyone in there, and to be honest I can see why. The service staff were prompt and efficient, as were the bar staff, no issues there.

But the outside gives a very bad impression of the place, and considering it is on one of the busiest roundabouts in Boston, near to some huge supermarkets and retails parks, you would assume it would be busier. Staff need to trained on how to clean tables properly, just squirting the spray and wiping without washing it down afterwards, it leaves the tables sticky, and I DO know what I am talking about, having run two restaurants myself in the past before retirement.

Visited the lamb & Flag in Abergavenny we had pre booked When we got there at 4 on a Sunday We were told that there was an hour wait They had run out of certain items and replaced one of the veg without telling us that this was going to happen Place was quite untidy menus & food on the floor! A far cry from a visit we had there a few years ago. There was a man vaping...Yes vaping on the table opposite! Staff were pleasant & apologetic re the wait & food. Def wont be going again Did not enjoy the food either. Actually the portion..very small portion of chips was quite nice

Mothers day meal

Part of 10. Our meals booked in advance. Firstly booked for 5pm. After a delay with our table which was sorted. It seemed another customer was late therefore pushing us to a temporary table. All our party was reseated.our food actually arrived at 6.30pm. Whilst the steaks were nice I can't say the same about the roast lunches.
Hard uncooked carrots. No mash on some plates.red shredded cabbage swimming in apple/vinegar tainted other food at first thought was pickled beetroot. Uncooked roast potatoes raw. A plate of beef roast had another type of meat - originally thought pork but turned out to be turkey. I advised the manager of problem with the roast meals. Her attitude was defensive and rude. Said she come to our table 10 times no one complained. She did NOT visit the table. The waitress asked the people @ top of table who had steak how was meal definitely NOT everyone @ table. The manager equipped no food left on plates - as the meat was put in a plastic tub for our dog the rest was scrapped onto one plate. After I informed the manager people who had roast were not happy she immediately went to the table and basically had a stand up row @ two members who tried to explain. Her attitude was very rude saying over 40 lunches no one complained. Quite frankly I don't care who had or hadn't complained. WE were complaining and she was not even apologetic or asked how could we resolve issue. I paid for two steaks advising the same waitress all paying separately however they were discussing with manager.
As this is my local we have just started going back as there was a period of time food radically went downhill or only deserts available or oven food. For many weeks various excuses so we just didn't go there anymore. After we heard under new management AGAIN thought give it a go. Sadly it's no better. To add to the problem one of our party was still outside so the manager decided to bully him into paying the outstanding bill. NOT impressed you can't make someone to pay for others peoples diabolical food. She had the chance to work something out with our remaining party she chose not to! It's unfair and totally unreasonable telling him he had to pay £75 because SHE would be out of pocket SERIOUSLY. I AM MAKING A FORMAL COMPLAINT about the treatment we received together with the disgusting food.

Barely warm food

We have eaten in 2 local Marston pubs this month and were hugely disappointed. On both occasions the food was barely warm when it came to the table.

Awful Experience!

Visited The Mitre Oak in Hartlebury on February 5th. Whilst my meal was OK, my partner couldn't cut the pastry on her pie.
We complained to the Waiter/Barman and requested a replacement meal.
He took it into the kitchen and after a few minutes told us the Manager would not replace it or offer a refund but we could order another meal at extra cost!
By this time my meal was getting cold as I couldn't really eat while my Partner had no meal.
The Waiter came back and said they could re-heat her inedible meal if we liked!
Not once did the Manager make an appearance.
This is a complete rip off when you pay for the meal when ordered.
Cotacted Marstons head office and an automated message said we would be contacted within 24 hours.
A few days later we heard nothing so phoned again and managed to speak to someone and explained the problem, and was told they would look into the matter and get back to us. One month later still nothing.
An absolute disgrace and a terrible way to run a business!

The Thatchers Needle Diss

I visited the Diss pub called The Thatchers Needle and found it very shabby and definitely in need of a refurbishment.
The carpet had not been hoovered, and we came in as soon as it opened, so no excuse there!
I'm not sure it had been dusted in a long time either, judging by heavy dust on the lamp shades.
I have attached photographs.
The staff are friendly and the food was okay.

Inedible

My husband and I have just left the wagtail in Wincanton. The food was abysmal!! Reheated roast potatoes, meat that was processed and too hard to cut, overcooked veg and burnt stuffing. £14 x 3 and it was all inedible. Also I had to clean our table with a wet wipe which was black after wiping. Absolutely disgusting.
Ruined our day.

Thanks.

Della @Toby Carvery, Whitchurch

I, with friends go to the Toby in Whitchurch Cardiff twice a week and are always served by Della. She is so efficient and friendly that it’s a pleasure to go. There is always friendly banter which enhances the visit. The carvery is good too.

2marston pubs miles apart !

How can marston’s get it so wrong ? We visited the Longacre today for Sunday lunch , it was horrible, I got chicken and my partner got turkey , the turkey was processed sliced turkey, the chicken was nice , but the veg 🤢 ! Smash type potato, roast potatoes soaked in oil, mushy carrots it was awful not worth the £14.79 , I give this pub 2stars
On the other hand we often go to the 6 medals pub in middle haven , it’s a carvery and it’s all fresh veg and always lovely so 5 + stars for them
What I will say is the staff in both pubs are so nice and friendly

‘Old Lane Pewsham’

‘Old Lane Pewsham’
Oh dear where did all the atmosphere and friendly staff go????
After a long shift I step into this MARSTONS pub in Pewsham-Chippenham….
It was 22:15.
Apparently the other side where I needed to get a pint or two was shut?!!!
Although several people still having drinks etc in there.
So I asked for a pint of Pedigree.
So the dead faced barman goes all the way round to the side that is supposed to be shut to pour it.
Brings it to me (still with a face like a sad donkey) and I pay.
So I take it to the other side, where he’s just actually poured it and sit to make a call to a coworker, who’s had a problem with a client tonight.
The bar where I got served is full of loud-too loud customers. No mention to them about the noise off the scale about other customers wanting to enjoy what atmosphere there, that is quite clearly NOT available!!
I try to find a corner (are you keeping up?) pubs are and have always been the heart ❤️ of the community yes?
For all sorts and all kinds.. yes?
Nope this is the 4th time I’ve visited this pub. Yes it’s local to me.
May I suggest instead of just taking money or the ping of Apple Pay, someone from Marston goes in under the radar and makes a good lengthy assessment on why some people would not give this pub even a glance.
The manager seems to usually be giving it large about replacing the big screen tv and can be heard moaning out loud on occasions about what a raw deal everything is and how tough it is here!??
Well Lidl are recruiting??
Get a grip OLD LANE

This company is a SCAM!!!

This company is a SCAM!!!! When you receive a letter you cannot get through to a human being do discuss it. There system puts you on hold for 10 minutes and then cuts you off. This has happened over 10 tries. The Bailiffs are ignorant and only want to increase their fees. My friend suffers from mental health issues and is genuinely signed off work. The Bailiff took the P and told her to get a job!!! Awful awful people!
