We were travelling to Southampton in my wife’s Audi A1 when the engine light came on, indicating a Drivetrain error. My son nursed the car back to his home in Poole but it was running very poorly. We needed to get back to our home in North Dorset in order to pick up my old Skoda in order to continue the journey, so I used the phone app to call GEM Motor Assistance. The recovery people arrived just over an hour after I contacted GEM. I was very pleased with the service provided and have no hesitation in recommending GEM.

Just saved a bundle by leaving R*C after 54 years and joining a creditable and much recommended organisation. Grateful to be here and should have acted years ago!

Broke down 200+ miles from home and GEM, through its network of recovery companies got us home quickly and smoothly, keeping us updated and assured throughout. Everyone we dealt with were friendly and went the extra mile to give us a spectacular service. What could have been a misery was a fantastic adventure. I have been with GEM for nearly 20 years and as long as I drive will continue to be a member.

I’ve not actually had to call GEM for a breakdown rescue but when I joined I found them extremely professional and helpful, also the monthly magazine I find interesting and helpful. I’ve had RAC and AA Membership previously and I rate GEM the highest.

My brother was driving when my car broke down on the M5. As he was visiting from Australia, he did not have a UK phone with him. Initially, he went to an SOS phone on the motorway and the Highways Agency dealt with me on his behalf (Kudos to them!).
As I was at work some 100 miles away, it was luck that I had my membership card with me, but I was able to arrange recovery. I received countless calls from GEM, the recovery drivers and the Highways Agency to check I was ok and also where exactly the car was. I did get fed up having to continually explain I wasn't with the vehicle and there was a slight miscommunication as to when the car would arrive at my designated garage, but all was well. Everything got sorted; the car is repaired and my brother is en route to Australia with a great story to tell back home!
I have been a member of GEM since 2013 and this was only the third time I have used them in the event of a breakdown. The first resulted in me meeting my fiance, the 2nd was not so good, but was ultimately put right by GEM and this latest incident was dealt with in a timely manner and is quite hilarious! I would recommend GEM any day of the week. Having been involved with a recovery driver, I understand the problems and pitfalls they can face. Ultimately, safety is the priority and a safe onward journey of both vehicles and occupants is required.

I've had to call GEM twice for motoring assistance. The first time the service couldn't have been better: prompt, friendly, efficient.
The second time: atrocious. Attendance was promised twice, then a call from them to say could it wait until tomorrow. When I said no, they offered a "4 or 5 hour wait". This, after they told me it would come within the hour, twice.
I cancelled the request. There was zero follow-up to see how I fared.
My first official complaint went unanswered. The second eventually elicited a standard reply that they would would look into it.
Since then, nothing, despite their contract promises of 5 days response, or 20 days to deal with it, when signing with them.
So, excellent when they do what they should, but in my experience wholly unreliable for any sort of call-out.

GEM keep asking for a review.
So far all I’ve done is take out the policy, they took my money and sent me a card, that is all the interaction I’ve had with them.
So in terms of basic competence I guess they are ok, in terms of taking action in an emergency I have no idea how they will do.
In terms of nagging for a review, they are 5 star…… !!
Update, the GEM reply is so obviously an AI generated one. Apologies from an AI 🙏 GEM 🤣

I have used two other breakdown companies in the last 2 years, 1 looked for any reason not to come out and the other, one of the big name companies too 8 hours to come out, using GEM they came straight away, I was with them a few years ago and left as I found a cheaper deal but I regret it, Gem is the best breakdown company I have used!
