I've been waiting for hours for a simple jump start. All I keep getting is excuse after excuse . What a waste of money, I mve been a member for over 4 years and this was my first time using these clowns. I gotta go sort this myself now ..

Only recently joined and no callout experience, but all very easy to set up. I really like the inclusive package that is offered - no long list of optional bolt-ons, just comprehensive breakdown cover.
I should add that I have recently cancelled my cover with another major breakdown service as there were unexpected limits to cover that caught me out. I checked with GEM and I would have been covered with them so decided to make the move.

Outstanding advice and help when joining. GEM provide a service where it is actually possible to speak to human being when calling for breakdown help, unlike the two main providers (AA and RAC).

The recovery company arrived quickly, within half an hour. Initially it was a man in a small van, who hoped to be able to get my van running again. When he realised that recovery to a garage was required, he arranged this and the recovery vehicle turned up about half an hour later. Both men were pleasant and helpful. GEM kept in touch by phoning me frequently to check that I was OK. Having previously used 2 big name breakdown companies who were terrible, I am pleased with GEM because they are far better and more efficient.

My partner's car broke down whilst towing a trailer on a busy A road. We called GEM. They arranged for a recovery truck which arrived within 50 minutes and took the car, us and the trailer home. GEM phoned me every 15 minutes to check that we were safe. Would thoroughly recommend GEM

First-rate response from GEM when my battery failed after a short journey from home. Easily contacted the control centre who were very thorough, efficient and helpful, and then I had only a little more than 30 minutes wait for a very helpful and knowledgeable recovery engineer.

Following a call for assistance from GEM with a breakdown whilst on a walking holiday in North Yorkshire the response time was just 30 minutes. The problem was worked on diligently for over an hour but could not be resolved and the car was taken to a nearby garage of my choice for repairs. The car could not be dealt with until after the Easter Holidays and I was granted onward travel back to my home address in Norfolk. I couldn’t fault the service received and I am so relieved to have recently joined GEM as my car breakdown provider. - Brilliant!!

Sadly I wasn’t able to take up the offer of £140 for breakdown etc
The AA played dirty and initially sent me a quote of £450 for my renewal. When I questioned it, they brought it down to £350! I said I’d come back to them. So when I eventually said I was cancelling their policy, as I’d had a quote of £140 - they came down to £200 with a few extras!!
I had no choice but to stay with the AA.
As a member I have passed this on to Which? Magazine. Awful me thinks!
I also complained to the AA who said it was due to a “computer generated quote”

Had a flat battery on my motorhome, I called them at 2.45, five minutes later the mechanic rang with an expected time of arrival, he arrived five minutes before the time given (15.30)...and within two minutes he, and I were on our way !.Can't fault them !!!.

Great service overall. The customer services staff at GEM Motoring Assist were great at first contact and also keeping me informed of what was happening. Also checked up on how everything was progressing whilst recovery operator was on site. Great Dunchurch Motors recovery operator who was courteous and friendly. Pre-booked recovery to tyre fitting shop from drive at home as vehicle does not have a spare wheel due to being a electric hybrid.

None of us looks forward to having a breakdown, but if the service you receive when booking the job, completion of a repair/recovery, or poor/little follow up stresses one out as much as the breakdown itself, then it can become a nightmare.
After more than 50 years of motoring and plenty of experience of dubious 'service' from the big three providers, GEM Motoring was head and shoulders better in every aspect. Great initial call handling, timely response by the recovery team, and genuinely concerned follow up to ensure what was promised was delivered. First Class all the way.
