Bought a knife set

Deplorable Experience of trying to buy at Newton Auctioneers Sale I have been buying items at auction…
I have been buying items at auction over several years.
.There have been the occasional problems but nothing that was not eventually sorted out. My experience with Newton Auctioneers is my first and by a very long way my most deplorable I bought three items at an auction sale on 5 August 2023. I was informed shortly afterwards and paid the amount due by return. At that time I asked for details of delivery both by e-mail and telephone message. I heard nothing. After six weeks of trying to communicate with the company, I have given up. However I am endeavouring to make a formal complaint to the RICS or whatever body who have licensed these people to operate. I strongly advise anyone not to do business with this company.
Rubbish / 0 star / i should have read…
Rubbish / 0 star / i should have read the reviews before I buy. It’s very bad reviews.
When they sell something to you and you read the details. You expect to get the lot you buy with the same details which it’s not. ( is it fraud ? )
And other lot not working.
And when I called and asked for refund the operation manager not helping and hang up.
Very very very bad. And waste of money.
So don’t waste your money with them.
And I’ll keep writing bad reviews and will make a complaint till I get my money back.
Don't bother.....
Couldn't or wouldn't answer if an item had a reserve price....clearly the responder couldn't be arsed....which is ok... Because I won't be arsed to buy anything there !!
Boxed is meaningless unless everything is in there
Been using a few different auctions lately, thought I'd try Newton even though the reviews are poor. These are some things to know:
1. Looks like they buy returns palettes and just put them straight into auction.
2. Most things are returned to retailer for a reason, mostly faulty or bits missing/broken. If you're lucky somebody has just changed their mind and all is good.
3. If something is BOXED it's meaningless unless everything is the box. If it doesn't say NEW then it isn't and may be incomplete.
4. Everything has VAT payable on it regardless of whether it's new or 20 years old and been used every day. VAT payable is not a sign that the item is new.
5. They always seem to quote RRP - which of course is again meaningless if the items has been around the block a few times. A car when new, may cost £20k, 10 years later it's worth a fraction of that.
6. Don't get suckered in - I did get some good bits and pieces, but caught out on a couple of things.
Would give -zero
Would give -zero, same as all comments thieves and deceivers, got a one pot received it been used and damaged not mentioned on advert, purchased spa, arrived looks like been used stained no pump, charged me £100 delivery on these items. They charge for storage indicating this if delivery not sorted asap, Ive decided to escalate and charge storage as its been over a week since I contacted them.
Very happy
Great bargains. Just be aware that you pay auction fees and vat on top which bumps up the price so factor this in when bidding. Lots of 'as new' items - boxed. Reasonable post and packaging charge.
AVOID.
Purchased a set of headphones back on the 1st of April 2023. Paid online via bank transfer for the purchase. Made an error when paying the £10 delivery cost (my mistake, I did not verify the payment). Emailed their customer services for a delivery date, to which they responded that the delivery costs had not been paid. Realising my error, I paid and requested an update. Despite having paid for the goods and the delivery still no headphones. I have emailed their customer services on 12 occasions and left numerous messages on their landline customer services telephone number. All without response. Having finally lost patience, I have issued an online CCJ (which has been granted) but even after the 14 day to pay deadline has passed still no refund or contact. I was then informed that although the CCJ has been issued it cannot be registered. On searching the online Gov.Uk company data information database Newton Auctioneers as a company was dissolved back in January 2019 yet they are still allowed by i-bidder to use this as a trading name. Contacting i-bidder is a total waste of time as they say that they are contacting Newton's directly on my behalf but despite this matter going on for over two months, nothing has been actioned.
The 91% 1* rating pretty much sums this…
The 91% 1* rating pretty much sums this business up - Im sure it would zero if people could give a zero rating.
They advertise their lots on ibidder with no mention of a reserve price, you bid on ibidder and then they have a live auction - if no bids are received in the live auction you still don't win auction from you ibidder bids (apart from cheap lots) - this is a dis-honest practice - if you do win a bid it is for their cheap crap - my point in case is that I picked up the one item I won advertised as boxed (Dishes) paid for them only to find every single one smashed to pieces - my advice is don't use them and anyone that has & had a problem contact trading standards !
As the reviews suggest
As the reviews suggest. Dumping useless electronics
Should have read the reviews before…
Should have read the reviews before trusting these crooks. Advertised a product as 'no power'. Lack of communication and extortionate delivery costs netted me a smashed product that did turn on. As soon as I paid in full the communication stopped completely. AVOID! - Recommend John Pye if using auction services and leaves these crooks to themselves.
I HAVE HAD THE UNFORTUNATE DISPLEASURE…
I HAVE HAD THE UNFORTUNATE DISPLEASURE WITH NEWTON AUCTIONEERS. THEY CANCELED A LOT I WON THEN REPAID THE AMOUNT OF OF MONEY I PURCHASED THE LOT FOR.
BEFORE CANCELATION I PAID FOR P/P.
I ASKED FOR THIS BACK THROUGH NUMEROUSE EMAIL, BUT TO NO AVAIL. I WILL NOT LET THE MATTER DROP. I WILL LITERGATE. BAD COMPANY....
These guys are scammers
These guys are scammers. Been waiting for an iPhone smartwatch purchased from them via ibidder since 19/12/2022.
No communication at all via email or phone. Keep well away!
Avoid
Oh My goodness. Do not buy anything from these people. Newton Auctioneers Limited dissolved on January 2019. So you are actually dealing with Bayscope Trading Limited Trading as Newton Auctioneers. Common director for both companies Syed Miah. They are not auctioneers acting for vendors. They sell 'stuff' and charge VAT on the hammer price and they charge a commission (24%) plus VAT. So they are the vendor of the goods and the auctioneer of the goods. So you will pay VAT on goods as well as the commission. Thats the legal/consumer/accounts bit. Now for the actual 'stuff' they sell. I am used to buying returns and seconds from auction. What I got from these guys was trash faulty rubbish. One of the items which cost £370 plus VAT plus Commission 24% plus VAT, I am convinced they could have acquired for nothing because it was not working and on closer inspection had obviously had someone trying to fix the electronic components. Despite the risks of auctions which I understand. I have been scammed. They know they are scammers which is why the only payment method on offer is BANK TRANSFER. I wonder why an online auctioneer doesn't have online merchant facility as an option. You will be doing yourself an immense favour in my opinion to give these guys a wide birth. I have some legal plan to recover my money but save yourself the pain
Goods are faulty
Goods are faulty, fair enough but not a proper auction as they have minimum bids and dont sell a lot of items because of this, they would sell if they lowered the price, Unrealistic asking prices and poor descriptions items not tested, appraisal not accurate
Would gve zero if I could
Try Before You Buy
this place is great for a bargain on many items but just like other auction houses these are no different one piece of advice MAKE SURE MAKE SURE MAKE SURE you check the items before you bid on them as after all this is an auction house not you retail shop and i have been to many other auction houses and they dont even let you check items whereas newton auctioneers let you come in on their viewing day and check what ever you want, plug in what ever you and be satisfied with your items. if your too far then just email them just as i do and they more than happy to check the item for you to the best they can. must likey the bad reviews on here are no doubt the avobe reason they have not checked the items before hand
I am wondering why so many negative…
I am wondering why so many negative reviews on here.
As a regular customer to i-bidder I have had no problems with Newton Auctioneers. I purchased on a Saturday and had to ring for the invoice on the Wednesday. It was paid immediately and we collected the goods on the following Saturday. Before we went I won another 2 lots on the day and paid when Wearrived and also they got those out for us. We have had no dodgy lots from them and nothing electrical or otherwise has been broken or parts missing etc..
With regards to them bidding against the purchaser this is widespread with auctioneers and does catch people out by keeping bidding. Yes it is a bit naughty but that is the nature of the business and the buyer needs to have a price they expect to pay. We recently were in this situation for the first time in 12 years and it won’t happen again. Other auction houses go way beyond what is a right price to pay and I think it should be that all should state either NO RESERVE or as do some genuine sellers RESERVE NOT MET. This is my own experiences with Newtons and of others who i prefer not to name. Just be careful !!
Good Luck Contacting Them
before buying from newton i would suggest you try contacting them they never answer phone or respond to emails .
