Great Experience Overall with One Renewal Consideration

I purchased my breakdown insurance via Nova Direct and found the system for creating a personalised policy very straightforward and user-friendly.
The only downside for me is the automatic renewal. I prefer to have the option to shop around before renewal to make sure I’m getting the best cover for my needs.
This year, my policy was automatically renewed by another provider after they sent two reminders, but I didn’t have access to my emails for a few weeks. As a result, the policy renewed without my consent at double the price of the cover I originally purchased recently from Nova Direct via another broker. I then had to phone them to request a cancellation.
This experience confirmed for me that insurance prices are often significantly better when arranged through brokers. Since automatic renewal is standard practice across breakdown insurance providers, I have still chosen to give Nova Direct a 5-star rating. Going forward, I will need to make sure to respond to any reminder about automatic renewal in good time.

Best cover on a budget

Great cover for a good price, I always like to have cover in place and I’ve never needed it yet thankfully but for peace of mind at a really reasonable price (£25) this is a great option

Do not help unless you have actually broken down, not about to

We were driving along a motorway when the battery warning light came on. This is an indication that the battery isn't charging so we came off the motorway at the next exit and called Nova. They refused to help us because our car hadn't broken down
I did point out that it would have done once the battery could no longer power the car and this would happen while we were on a motorway which could be dangerous. They argued that a warning light on the dashboard is not a breakdown so not covered by the policy. Therefore is the engine warning light was to come on you would have to wait until the engine seized before they would class it as a breakdown. This to me is a ridiculous rule!

You have purchased breakdown cover. If the only issue with your vehicle is a warning or dashboard light then you are not broken down. You need to take the vehicle, at your earliest convenience, to a garage. The Policy does not offer assistance when you are not broken down.

We understand your comments about the motorway but the issue did not occur whilst you were on a motorway, nor did your claims call happen whilst you were on a motorway. The scenario you mention is hypothetical. We hope this provides clarity on the points raised in your review.

Competitive breakdown cover

Bought breakdown cover for my car from Nova Direct. This is my first time contact with this company which I located by going through a comparison site. So far, they appear to be very dynamic, customer-focused and have clear communication and an excellent webpage for accessing what I bought. My documents were sent almost instantly but I can also access them through My Account on their webpage. I am very happy with their competitive rate for a very comprehensive breakdown cover that includes cover for nationwide recovery, home start and onward travel.
