I would have left a score of zero had that been possible.
I stayed in one of the ground floor apartments in Le Touquet, which had a lounge/kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and toilet. There was an unpleasant smell in the apartment which seemed to be a toilet smell so we closed both the bathroom and toilet doors which had been left open. We arrived early evening, emptied our car into the room and went out for a meal.
Upon our return we had to make up our beds because they provide bedding but do not make the beds and then went straight to bed. Once in bed the smell became so intense I couldn’t sleep! Reception was closed so I couldn’t complain. I got very little sleep that night because of the awful smell and next morning had to soak in the bath to try and get rid of the smell. I went to reception and it was closed again even though it was a time when it should have been open!
We went out for the day and when we got back reception was closed again!! I couldn’t locate where the smell was coming from so started a thorough search. When I lifted my mattress I found it was soaked on the underside with urine!! The base of the bed was also soaked with urine and there was black mould around the stain where it had been there for quite a while! The top of the mattress was clean otherwise I would have noticed it when I made up the bed. I slept on the sofa bed that night after finding bedding for it.
The next morning we were leaving but I finally managed to find someone in reception and told her I wanted to complain about the room. She told me she spoke very little English (even though they advertise their staff are bilingual) so I gestured for her to follow me into my room. I showed her the mattress and she could smell the awful smell, she just walked back out of the room and came back with two cleaners and then left. The cleaners couldn’t speak English but said ‘change’ several times which I assume meant they were going to change the mattress. I didn’t receive any apology let alone a refund!!
I have had to throw away my nightclothes because they were impregnated with the smell.
I have emailed their Customer Services eight times so far, in both French and English with photos of the mattress but have yet to receive a response to my complaint apart from an email asking for more details. I know they have received every email because they send an automated response. It is now nearly six weeks since I first complained and still no apology!
It was such a shame, the complex has the potential to be very nice and Le Touquet is a lovely French seaside resort with a fabulous beach. The restricted reception opening times is an issue especially when they are closed when they are meant to open! The general condition of the apartment was tired and the maintenance not up to standard. Our patio doors had obviously been forced open at one point and didn’t shut securely so we had to use the outside shutter for security. The cleaning was substandard and I am not a fussy person.
I have found it difficult to get over sleeping in a urine soaked bed but I have found it even more difficult to get over the total lack of apology from the hotel and their Customer Services department!!!!

If there is a zero star to provide, then I will, but the lowest is one. I was booking my holiday with Pierre et Vacances to go to Pont Royal. The holiday was showing as 50% off. I went through all my contact details, took a snap shot of the holiday showing my days and the total cost. In the meantime, my computer crashed, so I couldn't carry on. I logged back in again and because it went past midnight, the holiday went back to the normal price without discount. I, however, had a snap shot of the discounted price showing the correct dates.
I phoned Pierre & Vacances customer services, and they were the most unhelpful. I said if I can speak to a manager and they just said 'NO'. I asked why and said, 'Because you cannot'. Then I asked whether I can have an email address to send a copy of my print screen so that I can benefit from the 'PRICE GUARANTEE' as said in their website (that if I see it lower or the price changes, then if I can provide a copy of the print screen they will give you the price advertised'. ) After half hour on the phone, they given me an email address.
I haven't received a reply from them, even though I asked that I need to book urgently. I now had to book another holiday with a different site.
I am unhappy because I know that the parks are lovely, but if the customer services are terrible, it will make it no better than a shanty town in india.
I would seriously ask Pierre and Vacances to re-consider their way of dealing with customers. If a customer would like to speak with a manger because of a valid reason, then this should be allowed. After all, managers are employees aswell who their job is to help customers when the advisors have no power or further knowledge about a specific subject matter.
Dissapointing.
