3 years ago I bought a Seagate external…

3 years ago I bought a Seagate external hard drive. For some reason it did not work at all. During the pandemic I forgot about it and did not use it. Now when I wanted to use it, it was already out of warranty. Still, I contacted Seagate customer service in India (service executive: Mr. Gowtham) and although it was out of warranty, purchased 3 years earlier, they immediately offered to replace the drive. They organised a pick up service and the replacement drive has just been delivered! Great service!

DON'T RECOMMEND THEIR PRODUCTS OR CUSTOMER SERVICE

I purchased an external hard drive that crashed within a few weeks. Luckily, I was able to recover my items because it was still under warranty. I mailed my drive to Seagate and two things happened. 1) They sent me a new drive and 2) They sent me a drive with my recovered items. The "new" drive never arrived and they keep telling me I received it. Second, I was charged duties on the recovery drive I received... which NEVER WORKED. So not only did I have to pay for recovering my items which are still UNDER WARRANTY, it did not even work. They had to send me 3rd drive with my recovered items. I have been trying to get Seagate to refund me the charges that should not have been incurred by me, and their customer service is absolutely horrible. They keep sending me forms to send to the mail carrier, and the mail carrier tells me they cannot do anything. I absolutely do not recommend their crap products, not their useless customer service!

Responsive, quality company.

Disclaimer: I'm a "pro-sumer" and use the higher-end Exos series drives, not the lower-end Barracuda drives.

Seagate has been amazing with honoring their warranty, the drives are fast and affordable for high-capacity data storage. Their customer support has been amazing to me, and the drive failure rate is next-to-none compared to what it was 10 years ago. I've seen massive quality improvements in my time working with them.

I highly recommend to not even bother…

I highly recommend to not even bother wasting your time with this company. I have gone through about four 1 TB external hard drives each costing roughly sixty dollars. each and every one of them began making a scratching noise and would refuse to work. Built cheap and sold pricy.

Worst Tech Support in the World

Five phone calls today to get an external drive working. First woman admitted she hadn't a clue what to do (at least she was honest). Second person cut me off. Third person flatly accused me of lying to him, fourth person cut me off, fifth has left me on hold for so long I'm giving up and throwing the product in the bin where it belongs.

Remarkably quick and efficient data recovery, extraordinary customer service

I recently had a 5TB hard-drive fail on me. It worked for about a week after I had formatted the drive then one day I went to plug the drive in and it wasn't showing on on the desktop like usual and wasn't even appearing on my disk utility. I contacted the data recovery team as the drive was still under warranty. The team got in contact with me and I posted of the drive for them to recover the data. Whilst the data was being recovered, they sent me a replacement 5TB hard drive. The data was successfully recovered and they sent it back to me on a 2TB hard drive.

I was shocked to find out they also let me keep the 2TB hard drive at no extra cost. In fact, the entire process was completely free, even with posting. As the drive had to be posted the the Netherlands (from UK) to recover the data, I was concerned about shipping costs and customs charges. However, when sending out the drive to them they provided a pre-paid UPS shipping label so covered the customs charges. They did warn me that due to Brexit's changes, I may have to handle customs fees, when receiving the drive containing the recovered data, but the replacement drive will be a customs-free shipment. It has now been a few days since I have received my recovered data, and replacement drive and I have had no customs charges and the entire process as been free.

The whole process from initial contact to receiving my recovered data has taken less than two weeks. The process has been remarkably quick and efficient. From start to finish the customer service has been extraordinary, with timely updates and information which was clear and helpful, especially when addressing shipping/customs concerns. I cannot praise the company and the team enough.
I can’t recommend Seagate enough.

For no reason it would stop working…

For no reason it would stop working after about a month of use. Sent it back which was more complicated than it needed to be. Took ages to get it sent back. Worked again for another month. Stopped working again. Repeat the cycle 5 more time. Put it in the bin.

Terrible customer service

The 10TB drive was far more complicated to setup and use than I could have imagined. It also did not eject as it should. Then I had a very difficult and misleading process with customer services. Representatives who were trying way too hard to help with something that they evidently had little knowledge of.

Worst customer service possible

First my hard disk broke after falling from a table just once. 6 months ago I had it sent to Seagate recovery services in Netherlands. Communication with them was extremely slow and many times inconsistent or even incorrect, and the documentation I needed to prepare was cumbersome. A couple of times I tried calling but the operator could barely speak English at all, just Chinese. Eventually they could not recover it but stated they would send me a warranty replacement 4 months ago. I got no more communications and when using the UPS tracking code I received from them I saw the shipment was blocked there due to lack of some documentation. It has taken me two months to finally get news from them again upon questioning repeatedly, and their first response did not make any sense at all since they told me I had already been informed by phone, which of course did not happen. Upon more questioning they have finally asked me to provide a new bunch of documentation, and I have been still trying to get more answers or clarifications for yet another two more weeks since I believe some of those documents are wrong and some instructions are, again, imprecise. And here we still are.

This is the worst company that I have ever dealt with for after sales support. If I could give no stars I would. I will never buy anything from seagate ever again. Don't buy these products stay away from them. You have been warned.

Replaced faulty Samsung hard-drive

I had a Samsung hard-drive that was made by Seagate which had an error meaning I could not access anything. I shipped it to them and they sent me back a new hard-drive with all documents and photos having managed to retrieve them from the faulty hard-drive. Excellent service.

NOT AS RELIABLE AS YOU MIGHT THINK. AVOID - TRY ANYTHING ELSE FIRST.

Sadly, after owning 4 x 8TB, 2 x 2TB and 2 x 1TB drives i can honestly say they are so inconsistent and unreliable its annoying.

I used some for PS3 and 4 backups, some for PC and some for my library of movies and TV series.

I've had to send my drives off for replacement under warranty because some the transfer speed is 20mbps taking2 days for transfers, yet others are 130-150mbps taking only hours. I don't get this consistent - inconsistency. I expect the slow ones I have now will keep getting returned until all my fleet are fast ones. I don't mind it’s not my money they are wasting doing this. They do communicate and encourage me to send reports from their Sea tools software but i feel i am stuck in a loop of returning poorly performing (prob 2nd hand restored) drives back. I am starting to wonder if other brands will be more reliable instead.

UPDATE 31/05/2023 - Despite having 2 8TB and 3 2TB ones for consoles and PC, they are useless, transfer less than 10mbs. takes PS3 8 hours, PS4 and 5 around 7 hours and PC over a day to backup. Even just now to copy on 9GB of data took 5 hours. This is a joke. I have decided to move away from seagate and try Samsung esp their new SSD type drives cant be much worse than this - I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND SEAGATE AGAIN!

Seagate Technology equipment is not reliable

Seagate Technology equipment is not only bad, but it self-destructs. Put two external hard drives next to each other and some sort of electrical interference between the 2 drives results in data that goes missing with no evidence and nothing you can do about it. Rather than throw them in the garbage how about I give them to you in exchange for a single 10 terabyte internal drive

A real customer service !

I had a problem with my BitLocker encrypted hard drive containing hundreds of gigs of photos, videos and documents, which became corrupted. I tried every solution before calling Seagate support and they responded quickly. After a few email exchanges, they quickly sent me a shipping label to send the hard drive to their data recovery service.
After a couple of weeks, I received a replacement hard drive. Ten days later I received another hard drive with my recovered data.
The procedure is very simple and the recovery service is of high quality.
I feel I am in good hands. The hard drive is not supposed to be out of order but this can happen with any brand. I will remain loyal to this brand and I will not hesitate to recommend it to my friends.
Thank you Seagate Data recovery service for recovering my data!

I used the data recovery service

I used Seagate Recovery Services, but the returned data was a large amount of unopenable garbage data in one file and could not be recovered at all.
There was no explanation for that, and my broken HDD was never returned.

Please do not listen to the negative reviews.

Please do not listen to the negative reviews we contacted Seagate after losing 20 years of photographs. From start to finish their customer service has been extraordinary. I cannot praise them enough. We now have our data recovered and a new device at no cost whatsoever. This is stunning after sales care. We will now always use Seagate for our memory needs. Thank you, thank you.

Highly recommend

When my Seagate external drive failed without warning I was devastated. I contacted customer service and they were amazing! The rep informed me I had a warranty (I didn't know I had one). She told me I needed to send the disk to the Netherlands (I live in Melbourne, Australia)! I was told they could not guarantee they would be successful. I decided I had no other option. She said it would take up to 30 days to recover the data.

I was able to track the process and I couldn’t believe it when it indicated successful recovery! The recovered data arrived on my doorstep about 2 weeks later and all my data was there in the new portable hard drive. I paid nothing..

I read some negative reviews on the net but my experience has been extremely positive. The people I dealt with here in Australia were very respectful and supportive. This company is to be commended for standing behind its products.

Huge thanks to Seagate and the staff members I spoke to.
