Everything is going downhill for this company .it used to be so good ,now they just want to make money off you .

They give you a contract promising you all sports of guarantees and warranties if anything happens , then when you turn up to give the car back , they start quoting you on excessive fees , issues with the cars out of your control and they go against their own contract and make you take the blame .

The employees are useless , they don't know their own protocol , love making false promises and also have no idea what they’re talking about without the help of 5 different people from different offices .if you need help from them or even trying to pick up a car you’ve booked be prepared to wait over 5 hours .

I rented a great VW Arteon from Plovdiv office. As a couple of days later I needed to travel to Greece they quickly prepared a Power of Attorney ready for me in their Sofia office - I got it without waiting. All was great - fast service upon taking the car and fast return thanks to Ivailo Kokalanchev.

Everything was handled smoothly and quickly and the handover and return went very smoothly. Ivailo was very helpful when returning the car without any fuss.

We have used top car rent a few times now and there service is great they have so many cars to choose from and we dropped the car at departures with was so easy highly recommend.

Quick check in and return. The car was in good conditions. Bulgaria is a marvellous country and Top Rent a Car provides good means to explore it. Also the procedure to cross the border to surrounding countries is clear and simple.

For three small wet spots of clean water, each about 1 cm in diameter on the seat—after we had thoroughly cleaned the car to return it in the same condition as we received it, washed and tidy, so as not to return it dusty and dirty—we were fined 50 EUR. The employee stated that their experience with such wet spots shows that even a drop of water leaves marks on the seat, and there is no solution to the problem other than paying the 50 EUR. In conclusion, the Top Rent a Car employee added, “That’s just how it is.”
As for my conclusion—I sincerely hope I never have to rent a car from Top Rent a Car again.

This was my second time I rented a car from Top Rent a Car Bulgaria. Again the booking and the service were of high standard and I was fully satisfied with the car.

A personal recommendation - occasional discount offers to encourage customers to book and use EV-s would be beneficial for both the business and the customers in the long run. :-)

This review is not a bearing on the company itself. Top Rent a Car are a sound company with really good and professional staff who have always been really good at what they do and sort things out in the rare instance of something going wrong. They communicate well and in a timely fasion, constantly updating you throughout your hire period, and the pricing is really good. There isn't a car hire company to date that has been better than Top Rent a Car. So with that said, let's jump into the actual car I hired.

We were initially reluctant to go with the Opel Mokka, but unfortunately, the Tiguans were unavailable, so we took a chance. Safe to say, that gamble did not pay off. The Opel Mokka is, without exaggeration, one of the worst cars I’ve ever had the misfortune of driving.

Let’s start with the comfort level, or complete lack thereof. If you're over six foot, forget it. The seating position is cramped, the seat design is unforgiving, and the suspension? Harder than trigonometry. After a few hours, I was half expecting a letter from my kidneys saying they were filing for early retirement. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t start pissing blood.

We actually went through two of these things during a single hire period. The first car’s central driver display unit stopped working entirely, no speedometer, no fuel gauge, nothing. Just guess how fast you're going and pray. Thankfully, Top Rent A Car handled the situation swiftly and professionally, replacing the vehicle the next day with another, identical Mokka. So credit to the staff, they’ve always been friendly and responsive, and we’ve never had issues with them as a company. But they really need to take their entire fleet of Mokkas and send them directly to the recycling plant.

Both vehicles had a broken rear boot cover, which blocked the rear view unless you triple checked it every time you closed the boot. The boot latch, by the way, is hidden in one of the most idiotic places imaginable, we only even found it because the staff pointed it out on the replacement.

Functionality wise, this car is a disaster. Nearly everything is controlled through the central display, which sounds modern until you’re trying to adjust something simple while driving and realise you’re now being distracted by an overcomplicated screen interface instead of, you know, focusing on the road.

And speaking of distractions, the warning lights and chimes go off constantly, "tyre pressure change due to temperature" being the main culprit. Every time we started the engine, it was like being inside a malfunctioning arcade machine.

The turning circle? Think tank. Honestly. You could perform a smoother U turn with a ferry. And boot space? You’ll get four cabin size bags side by side. Anything bigger? You're out of luck.

The “infotainment system” is laughable. The USB port in the centre console didn’t work properly. Even when using a cable, it couldn’t provide enough charge to maintain my phone’s battery while running SatNav, let alone charge it. And yes, we’re in 2025 and they’re still only offering a single USB Type A port, as if that’s not outdated and nearly useless for most modern devices.

The sound system was the one redeeming feature, halfway decent, though it was accompanied by a charming dashboard rattle from the cheap plastic interior that reminded you constantly that you’re inside a mobile disappointment.

To wrap it up, do not hire the Opel Mokka if you can avoid it. If there’s any other option, go for a Peugeot 208 or similar. Trust me. Even a used donkey would give you a smoother, more enjoyable ride.

This company are crooks. They have screwed me a few times but this time was ridiculous. I picked a car up from the airport, and they claimed the tank was full but then handed me the keys, and I had to collect the car myself outside on the parking lot. As I drove out, I saw that almost a quarter of the tank was empty and I immediately took a photo and sent it to their support. This was within minutes of signing the contract. They replied and said that it was a fault with Citroen petrol gauges and that it was full. I argued how ridiculous that claim was but they refused to change their lie. When I filled up the tank it took over twice the amount of petrol that it should have, which clearly proved their very stupid and obvious lie. Also, the gauge was working perfectly. I sent them the evidence, and they refused to take any responsibility and continued their lie. Maybe a dozen emails and no responsibility. Avoid these crooks. In the past they had taken money from a deposit of mine for damage inside the car they blamed me for just because the guy was angry I returned the car a day early and he didn't have the paperwork in front of him. Despicable people.

*** Just to add a response to their reply. It is a joke. From the moment I filled up the tank the gauge worked fine and showed the tank as full and how ridiculous and insulting it is that they are making out that it only reads low when they fill it up. I have rented this model many times through them in the past without the gauge ever being inaccurate. They are liars and cheats.

About a year ago my rental car got hit by another car that drove away. I called them and they walked me through the whole process. The local police refused to do their job and the employees from top rent a car accompanied me to the police station and argued with them on my behalf. The reason I don't give them 5 stars is because they didn't release the deposit until they got the paperwork from the police a week later (which is also understandable but it would've been nice if they had considering I did what I could have done). I am very grateful for their support and would definitely recommend this company to anyone visiting Bulgaria.
