Reliable and honest company
This was pretty easy, no pressure to but local insurance and no tricks when bringing the vehicle back. I just feel that the car I was given was a downgrade compared to what I booked, but if that means less chances of theft, then it's all good. Recommended!

Don't dare to be held up at passport…
Don't dare to be held up at passport control. No refund, no option to get the car. I feel scammed.
They clearly could have done something. On occasions you have to queue longer than an hour.
Edit: as stated in the review, the one hour policy is ridiculous, considering the rental is on an airport where your customers have no control over their arrival time.

This company applies scamming techniques
At least the Turkish branch of this company is a scam, but also the mother company did not even bother to respond me when it was clear that their Turkish branch is using unethical tricks to cheat customers.
I rented a very cheap car from the Antalya branch of Viaggiare. The contract by economybookings said they would block 900 Euros on my card, and this is also the information I got at pick up. I returned the car a day after in excellent condition and the guy said all is fine, superfriendly so I didnt even bother to take photos.
To my shock, I later realized that the money had been withdrawn to an individual person Mohammet Kagan Avci. When trying to communicate with Mohammet I learned he was out of country, and the office whatsapp line suddenly stopped answering me, or giving random bullshit answers, insinuating that I had returned the car with damage. I then wrote to the mother company who did not reply, I wrote to economybookings who responded it was a problem between me and them. So never use Viaggiare unless you look for trouble and unnecessary stress in life.
Unreasonable credit card charge after return
We were charged a significant amount on our credit card without justification after renting a vehicle from Viaggiare Rent, and based on our experience, I cannot recommend this company.
We rented a van from Viaggiare Rent at Venice Airport. The vehicle was handed over to us in an extremely dirty condition, both inside and outside. Due to the poor cleanliness, it was practically impossible to properly verify the vehicle’s condition at the time of pickup.
When returning the vehicle, we explicitly offered the on-site representative of Viaggiare Rent the opportunity to inspect the car immediately. This was declined, and we were instructed to simply return the keys, with the explanation that the vehicle would be inspected later. No inspection was carried out in our presence, and no issues or damages were mentioned at the time of return.
Despite this, Viaggiare Rent later charged us for alleged damages that we did not cause and could not have caused. The most serious alleged damage concerned the windshield. We did not observe any damage to the windshield during the rental or at the time of return, yet we were later informed that the damage was supposedly so severe that the entire windshield would need to be replaced. This was the largest single charge.
In addition, the mileage reported after the rental does not match reality. We calculated our actual route afterward and drove at most approximately 400 km, yet the company claims that we drove 909 km. This does not correspond to our actual driving and raises serious concerns about the accuracy of the company’s post-rental documentation and the reliability of the damage claims.
We submitted a formal complaint and a detailed response to Viaggiare Rent. The company’s reply was disappointing: instead of addressing the substance of our complaint, it relied solely on general contractual clauses. Viaggiare Rent failed to address the return procedure, the poor cleanliness of the vehicle at pickup, the alleged damages which we did not cause (including the windshield), or the incorrect mileage recorded after the rental.
The matter is now being taken forward through official channels.
Update (dated 30 January 2026):
The company has replied to this review with a generic message asking us to contact customer service. However, we would like to clarify that we have already contacted the company and submitted a written complaint regarding this matter.
Despite this, the company has not responded to the complaint or to our subsequent messages, nor has it addressed the questions or issues we raised. At this point, the company is not responding to our communications at all, and there is no indication that they are genuinely willing to investigate or resolve the matter.
The generic reply posted on Trustpilot therefore does not reflect the actual situation, in which the issue has already been formally brought to the company’s attention without receiving a substantive response.
For this reason, the matter is now being pursued through official channels.
Update (dated 6 February 2026):
The company took a full five days to respond to our previous message sent to them, yet still failed to address the substance of our complaint. Their response did not deal with the issues we raised, but instead once again relied solely on general Terms and Conditions.
In this case, the Terms and Conditions are being used to justify a credit card charge regardless of how the vehicle return and inspection were actually handled. Our actual questions remain unanswered.
Unfortunately, this reinforces the impression that the company is either unwilling or unable to handle the matter on a case-by-case basis, and instead refers to contractual clauses in a routine manner while the reported discrepancies are left entirely unaddressed.

When I went to the reception to pick up the car they told me that they had no cars available and that there had been a mistake with the online reservations so they had overbooked. They gave me a toll-free number to call but that number was out of service. Total irresponsibility. Shame

Paid More and Got Less – Very Disappointing Experience
Booked a Kia Sportage via StressFreeCarRental with pickup at FCO. Due to a flight and baggage delay, we arrived at the desk at 10:10, just 10 minutes over the one-hour limit, with no queue at all.
We were told our car was no longer available and were forced to pay an additional €120 to take a smaller Toyota Yaris Cross. For a family with three children, this was a downgrade - we paid more and received less.
The car was also dirty (bottles and sand inside). We contacted both the broker and the rental company (also customercare_viaggiaresrl.it mail) multiple times but received no response.
Very disappointing experience and poor customer service. I hope the company will reach out to resolve this.

A good experience and fair price
I am from the stati uniti and used Viagggiare on two occasions on trips to Italy. In Rome the attendant was a young man who was quick, efficient and wait was minimal. It was January and very low season. One attendant and two customers before me moved swiftly. I think they are a smaller operation, located right in the airport, and the car i reserved was extremely reasonably priced via the wholesaler autoeurope.it. The staff member who checked me in and got me going spoke English adequately and was extremely patient/polite in the process. He was great. The car i reserved was an economy car and it seems adequately maintained. I have not returned the car as I am half way through my trip, but I figured I would post these accolades before I forgot.

Avoid – dishonest return process and inflated charges
Check-in was smooth and friendly. We arrived in the evening and were told to video the car before leaving, which we did.
The return process was completely unacceptable. No staff were outside, so we went inside. Two men then came out and carried out the most excessive inspection I have ever witnessed — crawling under the car with torches and scrutinising every inch, clearly looking for something to charge us for.
They eventually claimed a tiny scratch at the very top of the vehicle, consistent with a light brush from a branch and completely invisible on our return video in both daylight and night conditions. It was obvious they were determined to find an issue, particularly as we had not taken their full insurance cover.
We repeatedly asked to speak to a manager and were told the man dealing with us was the only person available. He then stated the second man present was from a different rental company, which is highly concerning during a damage inspection.
We were initially told the charge would be €250, which was then changed to €250 plus VAT, yet we were charged €350. VAT in Italy is 22%, which does not justify this amount. When questioned, no clear explanation was provided.
Another couple returning a vehicle at the same time reported similar issues and stated they would never use this company again.
This felt like a deliberate attempt to extract money at return. I would strongly advise avoiding this rental company in Verona.

I hired a car via CarJet at Catania…
I hired a car via CarJet at Catania Airport on 30th December 2025. The office is very difficult to find. They were not clear about the hiring terms. Drop off poor. Very unfriendly receptionist looking very closely to find damage. Eventually found a very light mark on a wing mirror. Would easily rub out with t- cut. She said it was a scratch. I had to insist on putting my observations on the return form, despite her objections. Charged 40 euros, which we will claim back on our insurance policy. My advice- and I frequently hire cars - avoid this company.
Additionally, despite them saying I would get copies of the contract and return form via email, I never received these. I have sent two emails asking for them, which have been ignored.
Sadly, I can't upload a picture of the 'severe scratch' but it can be seen on the Google review page.
Viaggiare gives car hire companies a bad name.

Terrible
Typical rental company that attempts to scam money out of you after the rental. First they tried to give us a much smaller car than we had rented which did not have space for our luggage. Then when we brought the car back we got a €41 refuel charge despite the fact that we returned it with more fuel than it had when we rented it.
When challenged they asked for photos of the car mileage on return (something I’m sure they will have their own records of) and made it impossible to get my money back by putting hoops for me to jump through. We were asked if we’d sent photos to a WhatsApp number, but we knew nothing of this number as this was not explained at check in.
Don’t use this company !

I lost 400€
I had a very bad experience with VIAGGIARE Rent a Car. I paid €400 for a rental car and never received the car. When I tried to resolve the issue, there was no proper response and no real help.
This situation caused a lot of stress and frustration. Paying for a service that is not delivered is unacceptable, and customer support was completely inadequate.
I would not recommend VIAGGIARE Rent a Car to anyone. Be very careful, as you risk losing your money with no solution.

Turned up at pescara airport [there where 4 couples] waited 30 minuites for them to turn up when they did they advised they had no cars and then they locked their office and left the airport leaving all of us in the airport with no car and no help....we had to hire a car from another company last minuite at great expense.....as we waited somone actually advised us not to use them as they got charged £700 for damage to a car that wasnt even on the car when it was dropped off but this didnt happen until they arrived back home so they could not fight it....so avoid at all cost pay a bit extra and go with a reputible company
