This supermarket has a self-checkout system in its stores. The problem I often encounter is that the store staff in Utrecht often check my purchases, sometimes even rudely. It's really annoying. g.h

SMELLY FOOD FROM ALBERT HEIJN

Summer time is no excuse for smelly food. Bought meat that was off and mushrooms that were smelling before their end of shelf life date. Comments on this post about how wonderful and awesome this store is are clearly placed there by the store itself. My carrots were bending like rubber...

AH Supermarkets: great when they have promotions

This review is for the AH supermarket in Wemmel, Belgium, but based on my experience in other AH supermarkets, I can safely say it is valid for other AH supermarkets as well.
AH offers a refreshingly different range of products (partly because they are from The Netherlands) and their fresh market is one of the best I have so far encountered.
When they have promotions (mostly A-brands) their prices are better than competitors (including Colruyt) but otherwise they are more expensive (but still cheaper then Delhaize).
Good service, friendly staff and convenient shopping.

terrible support and has the nerve to charge 50 euros for non-perishable goods if they claim that you 'missed' the delivery. The delivery fee is 3-5 euros and you get to resell the items. Watch out for competitors who will do better than you as you lose out on loyal customers who do no longer care for your monopoly-like strategies

racial profiling continues

Stop profiling based on race or ethnic background, it is highly unethical and disturbing.
Please give anti-bias training to your young employees, train them to discern based on suspicious behavior panthers rather than appearance (color, size).
Train your employees to stop lying recognize they act on their own bias, teach them to apologies when wrong, it is humane to make mistakes, however harmful to your brand and inhumane not to recognize when making one, especially when the mistake is based on personal racial assumptions.
This will become a big issue in the future if not addressed

Stop invading privacy and breaking the democratically accepted laws, this is EU not Germany 1941

As much as anyone can understand the pressure on the store owners with regards to the recommendations for wearing a face mask, the employees or shift managers are not authorised by any law accepted by democratic process to ask for personal medical information. And on the basis of that only a few of employees at AH Westwijkplein are discriminating people who refuse to disclose their personal medical details in public. More so, their actions are unlawful and outright ridiculous, since the cleaning of the shopping trollies is less than superficial. Many employees do not wear masks correctly (on their chin or under the nose). Not to mention the amount of clients who unknowingly keep touching their face and then articles with their bare hands. In case anyone failed to update themselves on how this virus is effectively transmitting, then I give up. But I do promise that legal prosecution due to discrimination and invasion into private information, unlawful requests and claims, will follow along with the media presence.

Supervisor made us feel like thieves

The supervisor approached us to tell us that we needed to put our groceries inside our baskets. We always use the code scanner and put our groceries in our bags, we even have a carrier for the bags. We had no idea it was not allowed, we're expats.
When she approached us we explained that we did not speak Dutch to which she proceeded to raise her voice at us and tell us in English to put the groceries in the baskets in a very rude way, kind of making an unnecessary scene in the process, which was really embarrassing.
After that, we asked for assistance from another employee while paying for the groceries and we noticed that afterwards this same supervisor quickly approached the employee and asked her something while looking directly our way. It made us feel really "watched", as if we were little kids causing trouble in the store or like thieves, as if we were trying to steal something and we needed to be followed and supervised.
We do weekly trips to this AH, at least twice a week, we don't think it was necessary to treat us this way. A simple explanation, in a polite way would have been enough.

Be very careful if ordering online from Albert Heijn!

Be very careful if ordering online from Albert Heijn! They will call you to accept the delivery from a private number, and if you miss the call you cannot call back. If you miss the delivery - they will charge you 50 Euros just for inconvenience! It's in the small print of their terms and conditions and you have no choice but to pay. They will not allow you to even reschedule the delivery and pay another delivery charge of 2.50 Euros - its an immediate "fine" for missing it. When I asked what will happen to the products I ordered, I was told they would be disposed of! With so many people going hungry, how disgusting!

Terrible

Terrible. Till Summer 2020 the app and Albert Heijn online website worked just fine. However, since late August it got worse and worse. I can't process my orders and as a result I end up having delivered at my place half of what I actually need for my weekly groceries. Their Customer Service don't provide very much details on what measures are being taken to improve their systems. The result? A loyal customer very frustrated.

Bad service and no responsibility!

Our select membership given through from the Appie is not working anymore - our membership is valid until feb 2021 but after contacting appie twice and the agent via messenger could not understand me at all, after all of that they take no responsibility in coming up with a solution, they leave it up to Bol.com It seems to me that they make partnerships with other companies and if there are problems they don't care to solve it. They want the benefit but not the responsibility of dealing with it. We pay way more for our groceries at appie and have a membership we didn't use for 4 months because of corona, they take 3 to 4 weeks to deliver - pathetic, we pay for them to "work things out". Appie has no interest in serving the people they are ripping off.

Albert Hein Rotterdam Martktall are not respecting basic Covid hygienic rules

In Albert Heijn in Rotterdam Markthal employees are not respecting basic hygienic rules set by Dutch goverment in Covid crises. I was scanning my products at self service when before paying random check was innitiated (Sunday, 13th Sep 2020 at 17:00). A woman from AH came and started taking out several items from my bag WITHOUT cleaning hands or having mask on. Distance of 1.5 m was a joke, she was almost breathing down my neck. Apparently, Dutch goverment advice how to behave in pandemic is not valid for this store. Afterwards I was 'allowed' to pay. Unproffesional and dirty. With level of hygiene they have, you can get a plague in this supermarket, not just Covid.

Weekly bundles

Got a bundle for weekly online delivery. Big big big mistake. Absolutely not worth the money. First couple of weeks it was ok. You could order stuff that for some reason was arriving close to expiry date, or not even get all you ordered ( money not charged for these items at least). But till now strange but acceptable. Then the fun started.
1. You easily face crazy late deliveries out of any normal hours. Sth like between 23 and 00! Whereas your original bundle does not mention that Ah’ll be consistently late for several weeks. You gotta stay awake and wait for them to deliver.
2. You try to cancel the order, it does not really work. They try to deliver it when you give up and go to bed. Don’t find you and drop a piece of paper.
3. You try to change the bundle time but it does not result in actual change for at least first four (4!) deliveries. So for another month at least you gotta enjoy midnight visits and reduced sleep. Why not?
Beware
4. The beautiful bundle gets automatically renewed. So if you wanna cancel it you gotta do it with sufficient time in advance.

Idea of weekly online deliveries is good, choice is ok for when you get what you’ve ordered, but the actual service and implementation are bad. Very bad.

Shopping at AH online is probably the…

Shopping at AH online is probably the worst experience I have ever had. I ended up paying 25% more of the sub-total because they don't say that they will charge 10% for purchase stamps (whatever that is) and 8 for plastic crates that stay at your house (why would anybody want that? I have no idea).
