Terrible customer service!!!!

Ok let's start by saying you have had a bad expierence with a host and reservation. Just try finding an email OR phone number for any kind of support . GOOD LUCK! I finally found a contact phone number on the second page very last sentence in very small print of my reservation conformation. Finally reached someone who was fakey and full of BS saying that Airbnb holds the highest quality standards and that she was so sorry for my expierence and someone would be in touch with me from a different department to investigate , and in the mean time she would send me an email confirming everything and that I could attach any photos or infor pertaining to this situation.
The email was sent I tried to attach etc pics and documents but it would not let me do it . So I copied the email address and sent one on its own only to get back another email saying my email could not be received. It has now been 1 week and I have heard from NO ONE!
I have tried to call the number again but have been on hold endlessly. This company is a ripoff . There is no recourse for the buyer and no responsibility to the buyer from this company. This is done on purpose so they don't have to deal with their dishonest hosts. I would recommend staying far far away.

Host did not leave key. I did not get a full refund.

I was unable to enter the apartment that I had paid for. My host had let a friend use the apartment instead of me and I was left with no key under the mat and no explanation at 4 am. I arrived late due to delayed flight.By then, my cell phone was dead so I could not call a cab. I had to walk from hotel to hotel with all my luggage at 4 am by myself in the dark, raining night until I found a hotel that had a room to rent. It was a complete nightmare, I was tired, my back hurt from being trapped on the plane due to weather delays for 7 extra hours (was supposed to be a 2 hour flight) and I did not want to be dragging my luggage all over a city I was unfamiliar with. My host made a fuss over refunding me the full amount I paid her and air BNB would not refund the $39 service fee. The help center did not include the topic of the host not letting you in the room you paid for. There was no option to discuss the issue with them. This is not an acceptable way to do business.

Rude

Absolutely unfriendly. After searching all over the internet for a phone number and waiting 30 minutes for a representative to pick up, he immediately gives me an attitude. I was calling them about a refund for my cat allergies; the presence of a cat was not listed. He was very uninformed about the companies policies and then hangs up on me. Worst customer service experience ever.

PROPERTY OWNER/HOST

AIRBNB BUSINESS PLATFORM IS HORRIBLE. The guest and property owner/HOST can not speak directly until the reservation is booked. Airbnb charges the guest - over and above the rental fee, an additional 6% to 12% to book through airbnb - this is based on the rent amount per week. They also charge the property owner a 3% booking fee. I'm okay with the property owner booking fee but the guest fee is outrageous! They also do not pay the property owner the rental amount until 24 hours after the guests have arrived, which means they can hold the guests and the property owners money for up to a year or more if the booking runs that far in advance. GUESTS, PLEASE book through VRBO or HOMEAWAY! The property owner pays them a yearly fee to list with them and the guests do not pay an extra thing. BEWARE!!!! if a cancellation on the guest's part is necessary, Airbnb will hold a huge part of your money as a cancellation fee. USE VRBO OR HOMEAWAY!!

Do not trust this business

I had been an Air BnB host for over a year and I achieved the status of Super Host very rapidly due to the five star reviews I received as a host. I began hosting really as a bit of a lark as I love travel and felt I could do this to a level that I personally would expect from such an arrangement. To my surprise I really enjoyed hosting and ensuring that guests had a superb experience. The problem with Air BnB is in short, they are liars and behave in a wholly unscrupulous manner.

Air BnB proclaim to insure the hosts property while in fact they refuse to take action when a guest has inadvertently or not damaged property. When notified about the damage they said I needed to provide photos, an estimate for repair and replacement, and a receipt. I provided all that was requested only to have Air BnB change their tune and the terms which they stated. In essence, they are a scuzzy operation and I would sincerely warn anyone considering hosting or being a guest to seriously reconsider.

Be careful what you get charged by Airbnb!!

I have NEVER seen a site where the quote is in Canadian dollars, I paid with a Canadian credit card and they put it though in Usd!! This should be illegal. Proves that people can put whatever they want on your credit card. Watch what this company bills you. Michael agreed with me that this was wrong, but after speaking with management, they refused to fix it!

They don't tell you about recent violent incidents.

In Venice Beach where there have been many recent violent incidents and a few fatalities there is no resource to warn visitors of the spike in confrontations with the homeless population.
Wanting to maximize the tourist dollar they describe a "safe-friendly-laid-back-vacation paradise-they leave out the crime statistics.

WOW.

Airbnb has the worst host customer service I've ever dealt with. My first Airbnb customer arrived 3 hours per our agreement. Forced/begged....even used her kids as an excuse to come in early before the cleaners had even finished. She arrived with 2 small children, 2 nannies, her husband, and herself. I allowed this because I have a soft spot for children and it was my first guest through Airbnb (Plenty of guests through craigslist). I wanted it to go smoothly. What was said to be a quick stop for luggage drop off and diaper changes quickly turned into an hour of the nannies going through every drawer in the house. It took my cleaners twice as long. That night, the new guests still washed every single towel, pillow, sheet, blanket, etc in the entire house. The washing machine was on for 12 hours consistently. Everything had just been washed in front of them!! When they arrived there weren't even sheets on the beds so they were definitely sure everything was cleaned! Not to mention, they hung every single article to dry on my wooden patio furniture outside. White on wood isn't a good idea. I wake up the next morning to 80% of the windows completely open with BOTH the first and second floor AC units on. When they arrived the day before, I went over the house rules verbally, one of which was, "please keep the windows closed when you run the heating/cooling systems as they will become ridiculously expensive". Her response was- "Oh this weather is perfect, we wont be using them often". The icing on the cake came when I found 3 broken crystal glasses in the dumpster and the "dry clean only" back pillows of the gray couch in the picture, washed and turned inside out on my patio furniture!! I then decided I would be nice and instead of making a huge ordeal, simply print out a small list of house rules. "Use Eco friendly on washer, etc". This did not go over so well with her and she passive aggressively cancelled a reservation she had a month in advanced! Now here's the part that makes Airbnb an awful mediator and pretty much voids any type of protection for the host. When I first set up my account, I thoroughly set everything I wanted, including my cancellation setting. When I received this inquiry (my first), I recognized my cancellation policy was still set to "flexible". Frantic, I emailed the preapproved guest and told her I noticed she could cancel on me within 24 hours. I told her since this is a month in advanced I would definitely like to know if the commitment is mutual or tentative. She agreed through email she was fully committed. Longer story shorter, she sends me a message the morning after I gave her a second set of keys and the house rules list telling me her child is having a hard time with the stairs so they are altering their stay. I was sent a message to "accept" or "deny" request of which I hit deny. I had turned down 6 reservations for this time slot which I held for a month. I was sent an override by airbnb with no contact from their office. When I reach out through the help center, I receive an automated response not even pertaining to my issue. When I call I am directed to the Resolution center. This morning, I receive an email rejecting my investigation stating my cancellation policy was set to flexible. NO ONE reads into the threads. I recognized this from speaking with the guy on the phone, which btw good luck finding the number on Airbnb! No one truly investigates. They read the first page and find the quickest response they can that kinda matches, all of which are prewritten and they put their names on them as if they wrote it personally. I've spent more hours reexplaining this situation than I have spent resolving it. This is NOT what I signed up for and I hope everyone realizes it can happen to you very easily. I will be sticking to my own lease agreement paperwork and security deposit from now on. It's worked wonders for me through Craigslist. It is not worth the extra money Airbnb takes out of my stays to be a mediator when their best interest clearly leans to one side; theirs. Especially when they mention this great insurance policy yet they say once they have returned the money back to the customer they can no longer charge their card. There needs to be "buffer time" between the time a guest cancels a reservation and the time they receive their refund, especially if the Host denied the alteration request before the reservation was cancelled.

Please beware they do not protect customers !!!!

Please save your money and go somewhere else even if you pay little more. This place is a joke. They allow scammers from all over different countries. Our money was gone! They took 3k. All the money we saved up for our vacation. I called the customer service and they did NOTHING!!! I wish I look at reviews before I tried them out because they have horrible reviews.

Worst ever!

There were longer holidays in Japan, so we couldn't find a hotel in the famous sightseeing city. So we decided to use Airbnb.
We found an apartment near our main sightseeing spot. We paid for three nights, but the place we rented was a hell.

The owner left the window open, and the fan was running because the room had a smell.
The bed was dented into the center. The pillows, the comforter, and the blanket had a yucky smell like they had never been washed.
The dishes were dirty, the refrigerator was full of the owner's foods just like he was here!

We arrived this place from another city, so we didn't have any energy to look for another hotel anymore. We had to stay here one night. But that was our limit. Next morning, we left. We had to find a hotel on that day for the rest of our schedule.

If you check out the reviews of Airbnb.com, you will find the true quality of this company.
No Airbnb anymore.

Review integrity is unique @Airbnb. All pay per booking Airbnb competitors are scam operations or inadequate. Airbnb protects guests well.

This review applies to Airbnb US and HQ. However since many international guests use Airbnb when they travel in the US, this applies to them as well and the platform is the same around the world anyway.

Review integrity is unique at Airbnb, not only in its industry but also among all internet companies. This is a huge win for guests as any intelligent person who is risk averse will select a host with many good reviews and be fairly sure that they will get a good experience. This is because on average Airbnb reviews are very accurate. Possibly only Ebay can compare with Airbnb as far as Review integriy. Many other internet companies like Yelp and Tripadvisor cannot compare with Airbnb and pose severe risks to users and guests. From my experience Yelp and Tripadvisor are corrupt and unreliable and their reviews are junk on average and/or do not have the right people and right systems to handle what they try to sell to the public.

Airbnb invests massive resources and very smart and nice people to ensure the integrity and accuracy of reviews. They keep improving although there is still room for improvement. I would like to see Airbnb add star reviews for guests too not just hosts; similarly to what Ebay does where both buyers and sellers are star rated (not just description rated). This would ensure that each Airbnb transaction is smooth for both guests and hosts and that Airbnb would succeed even more.

Airbnb has no competition; all its competitors do not have the resources, ethics, integrity, people and systems that Airbnb has. In fact some of Airbnb competitors, including well recognized names such as Tripadvisor, are essentially scam operations. I am not familiar with VBRO and other non pay per booking operations so I cannot rate them but if VBRO and other were smart they would switch to a pay per booking model so that hosts do not have to pay a huge fee upfront.

In essence many of the recent reviews of angry guests about Airbnb are either fake or the guests did not take the appropriate precautions such as choosing a host with many positive reviews so they get what they ask for.

Another area of improvement for Airbnb would be adding the ability for hosts to include special amenities such as indoor pool vs outdoor pool, private garage etc because many guests do actively look for special amenities but the current Airbnb menu does not allow for that search while many of Airbnb competitors do allow more options in search.

Airbnb has made huge improvements recently. I had an old Truspilot review of Airbnb with 2 stars
