Myself and 23 others have recently…

Myself and 23 others have recently returned from our 3rd visit to High Cloud. Its absolutely amazing beautiful house with fantastic views. Everything has always gone smoothly with our visits and we have booked for next year already. Thanks especially to Alison and Mike for making each of our stays amazing.

Absolutely amazing!

We stayed at Fairlea Grange in Monmouthshire over the Plantinum Jubilee extended bank holiday weekend. A family of 22, spanning 3 generations, age range from a year old to 77 years old. We had a fabulous time, the house was private despite its residential location and very well equipped it really felt like home from home. It was immaculate, obvious a lot of effort goes into the cleaning .There were ample beds which were so comfortable. The younger of the group utilised the gym, sauna and hot tub, whilst others made use of the quiet spaces, barbecues and good home cooking featured too. IF YOU BOOK TO STAY HERE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED .

Fantastic property for a large group

We were a group of 11 pensioners staying at Monnow Valley. We each had our own bedroom, but the house could easily accommodate twice as many people. The property is first class - very spacious with great facilities including a hot tub, table tennis and pool table. The owner, Jo, was very helpful and welcoming. We had a great time staying there and would recommend it to anyone. It would make a great venue for a party.

Best weekend ever

What a fabulous place. Monnow Valley Studio. Family party for more than 20 of us ranging from 1 year to 87 years old. Something for everyone and not a dull moment, brilliant party room and games room. Fantastic to have so many bathrooms to bedrooms. Jo and Phil couldn’t have been more helpful. Everything was as described or better including the hot tub that got plenty of use. For all our family to say this was their best weekend ever it must be special. Although an older house it had fantastic facilities and we seemed to discover new places to meet every evening. Fabulous Paella meal as well from Fresh Food Events on one night.
Overall can’t recommend too highly.

The best weekend away, ever. Thank you

On the weekend of 1st to 4th April, a group of 22 (old friends from Nottingham University) were lucky enough to hire the use of this lovely venue. Well; I simply cannot rate it highly enough, and this was the sentiment that was widely felt in the entire group. It met our needs perfectly and we certainly intend to return in the future. The house was spotless, and incredibly well equipped. Every bedroom was lovely. We stayed in the annexe near the hot tub. We arranged a large Ocado delivery which came on the Friday, and ate out two of the three nights. We had an Indian takeaway on the Saturday night, which we ate in the lovely big dining room. The house, itself was lovely and warm, and the 2 dishwashers in the spacious kitchen area made any self catering a breeze. We walked a total of 21 miles over the space of the weekend, in the picturesque Wye Valley I'm guessing our lovely stay was completed by the fact that every member of our lovely group was respectful of the beautiful property, and sadly, as in a lot of situations, I can imagine that some people, especially in a large group, may not have the same level of respect for other people's property.
Thank you so much.

Fabulous extended family weekend

We have booked our annual family get together with BHHL for a few years and found the service very professional and staff wonderfully helpful, compared with other companies. During COVID they managed to offer generous extended time to reorganise bookings which we felt fair to customers and owners alike, particularly through two lockdowns. It is very straight forwards to book using their easy to navigate website, payment is non complicated and communication is vey efficient through email, phone calls/text messages. The house we have stayed in on our two family gatherings since coming out of lock down is Fairlea Grange in Abergavenny and brilliantly suits all our family needs. It is a huge house, a real wow factor when you first arrive and has loads of space inside and out for our 24 strong family group. Large gardens for little ones to play games, hot tub and sauna to relax, and a games room. The location really suits us, as it is a ten minute walk into an excellent town centre and the surrounding countryside offers a range of walks to suit all abilities. The house Manager, Peter, met us at the agreed time and was very friendly, welcoming, informative and a great start to our stay. The house itself is warm and cosy, rooms are a mix of sizes which helps accommodate families, couples etc. with some being en-suite. Towels and linen are clean as is the house overall. Fairlea Grange suits our family who range from 1 to 89 years old, as it is a really solid building that withstands the rigours of young active kids, while provides relaxing areas for those of advanced years. We have experienced two of the best extended family weekends we have had at Fairlea Grange, and have tried several properties over the past 12 years. BHHL are an excellent company to put your trust in if you are looking to book a large group holiday, and we will certainly be returning to Fairlea Grange within the next year.

The service from BHHL was excellent…

The service from BHHL was excellent from start to finish. We had to amend due to COVID which was simple and efficient. Website excellent, easy payments and good communication. The house itself (Mannor on the Morrow) was brilliant. Great size, so much space for 21 people. Good facilities and great location. The house Manager was very welcoming and when we asked for a little more heating in the great lounge and games room, he was over like a shot and did this, along with checking every other room, very quickly. That said, everywhere else was so warm it didn't need it. Linen and cleanliness top notch. Ignore 1 star reviews. Best big family weekend we have had, and we have done one every year (bar COVID of course) over the last 10 years.

BHHL and River Wye Lodge - Excellent

The process of booking, asking questions and receiving information from BHHL was always very easy and helpful. Our stay for a group of 22 at the River Wye Lodge was excellent and was just what we were looking for, and would recommend it to that size of group as the communal rooms were large, and the bedrooms all very equal in size and their facilities. It's location close to the river and the local pub was also excellent. It was perfect for us.

An excellent experience

Our experience booking with BHHL was smooth from start to finish. Their team was incredibly helpful when we made the initial booking and guided us through the process with regular reminders for payment and helpful prompts if we wanted to book additional services. We found the company's online portal easy to use and their team highly responsive. The house itself, Monnow Valley Studio, was a great venue for the celebration we had planned and was very well equipped.

Great stay

There are some really odd 1-star reviews for Big House Holidays. That's definitely not our experience.

Booking for a big group can be stressful, but it was simple with BHHL.

The house we had was fantastic. Perfect for our group.

A Company True to Their Word

We were delighted with Big house Holidays organisation and description of the House we rented in the Wye Valley. The house was extremely well equipped especially in the Kitchen. It was extremely well maintained and very clean and comfortable with lovely bedding and Towels.
We had everything and more that our party of 16 could have had.
We were greeted at the house and given a tour. Nothing was too much trouble and we were able to keep in touch by mobile.
The WiFi was very reliable as was the sky tv.
I feel very confident in using Big House Holidays again and in fact will be looking for somewhere next year.
A great group party house.

Positive experience - great weekend away

Had a very good experience with these guys - they were helpful finding a good property for my group (stag do), very amenable to rolling everything over a year due to covid, and they dealt with everything very clearly. As our group was a stag do, they raised concerns as unsurprisingly they've had some negative experiences from stag dos in the past, but they communicated clearly what to expect from us - an awesome weekend was had by all 22 lads, serious fun, and all we were asked was to do our best to hand the property back in the state we found it - which we managed! Deposit back in full. Job done! House had awesome bbq set up, great pub nearby, plus we were also after somewhere that had activities nearby (paint balling, shooting etc) and they found us an awesome farmhouse that had a set up for activities right next door, run by the owners of the house, who were very friendly and well organised. Excellent paint balling and shooting sessions. House also had a great games/chill out room, which was perfect for a large group. Thanks BHHL!

I was extremely worried after reading the previous reviews DONT BE…

I was extremely worried after reading all the negative reviews. And I would like to take this opportunity to put you at ease. We have had excellent communication and quick responses. Obviously if you don’t respect the property your letting then your going to encounter problems and rightly so. No issues at all with being contacted the day after our return to give my details for the return of the security bond. I will use these again. Thank you Alison and team 💯👍

Avoid at all costs

The house itself is nice at first glance. Great history behind the place but once you see past that it’s really one to avoid. For the price you pay the least you expect is hot water. This appears to be too much to ask for. The room was dusty the communal areas upstairs tired the main bathroom shower facilities out of order. Then the hot tub. After paying a man already staggering amount of money for the place to then be told we need to pay another £200 for the hot tub just before check in was certainly a surprise. That’s not the worst of it. The £200 paid for a lukewarm hot tub that didn’t work properly and wasn’t refilled after the first few nights use.

Next comes the deposit…. This has been a farce from the moment we left. The terms and conditions state that the deposit is to be returned within 10 days. This wasn’t the case we checked out on the Friday and we’re told the following week after 3 other parties of guests had been and stayed at the property that we had stained (an already cheap and tacky looking Lino) in one of the bathrooms with a dye. And they were charging us for that. This was not us and when asked to prove to us that the photo of the stain was when we departed and not after the party after us they couldn’t provide us with it. Later in the negotiations they even admitted the photo was taken after another group had left but it must have been us as we were ‘drunk’ to be accused of this is just appalling customer service. Also they tried to add £50 for ‘checking out late’ when the reason we left late was because jo the ‘host’ was talking to us in the morning.

The experience has tainted what should have been a great getaway celebrating a birthday.

Avoid these cowboys. There is a reason why other booking platforms rule the market and that’s simply because you offer nowhere near the service they do.

I hope this review stops someone from booking this place and instead decides to spend their hard earned money with a company who value your custom.

Avoid this place, at all costs

Avoid this place, it is not worth it.

We hired Monnow Valley studio, and upon arrival this looked alright, the hallways were pretty tatty and reminded me of staying in an old peoples home. It was full of music memorabilia to suggest it had connections to the property, which did not.

We paid a lot of money in good faith to rent this place but 2 days before the management demanded an extra 200pounds for the hot tub, which didn't even work properly, it was faulty.

The facilities were pretty good, no complaints there, no chalk for the pool table, but whatever.

We left the property in pristine condition and in the space of ten days which we were contractually owed our deposit back, two parties had enjoyed time in the house. The owners breached their own terms and conditions by holding our money hostage whilst they lied about a stain on the floor which they could not prove was made by any of our party. They claimed it was hair dye which is an outright lie. Lino flooring does not cost 250 pounds. Which is the "reason" why they fraudulently held onto our deposit.

The management refused to talk us over the phone, and when we tried to phone them they hung up on us.

The house we stayed in was excellent

The house we stayed in was excellent, but this agency is poor . Very little communication about anything except when they wanted money . Refused any kind of Covid refund during Lockdown and now are very slow in giving me my security deposit back , even though we left the house in perfect condition 2 weeks ago . I had to go directly to the owner who I found on a different web site to get information about entry and the key etc
My advise is do not use Big House Holiday lets

Avoid like the plague

Avoid like the plague. Incredibly rude and unhelpful during the booking process. Absolutely no flexibility given during the covid pandemic because and I quote "them the rules". Avoid at all costs.

AVOID THIS COMPANY!

I booked a large house rental for myself and a group of friends at the start of 2020 for May 2020. To start with the company were reasonably helpful. Not that long after making our final payment the UK lockdown started and we contacted the company to ask for a refund.

They refused this request and instead tried to charge us more money to change the dates or suggested we would lose our money. After several email discussions in which they were increasingly rude they agreed to move the booking with conditions to the following year but would not refund any portion of the full balance we paid.

As the legal situation in respect of refunds became clearer we once again requested a full refund which after a few weeks and chasers received an automated email to state our booking had been cancelled followed by another email informing me a refund would be given however the company would retain 10% of our deposit. Upon asking for the basis of this deduction I received a rude response demanding bank details and over a week later received the partial refund.

Whilst I appreciate the current situation is very difficult for us all including rental companies such as this the way in which they have dealt with the situation has left alot to be desired. They have been rude and inflexible unlike several other companies I have dealt with recently. If I had paid via a credit or debit card I would have been able to recover funds however as this company only allows bank transfers you are unfortunately at their mercy, which they exploit to keep money illegally and without a legitimate reason.

At a time when uncertainty will be around for a while I would strongly discourage anyone using this company as their customer service is non existence and they will exploit the situation to cancel bookings and retain your money like they with with ours.
