Only when you have an important document does it decide it does not want to print, I'm using a business smart MFC 5730, not a domestic one. Brother have spent more time trying to decide whether printe... See more

Never had so many issues with a printer…
Never had so many issues with a printer before!
Normally a HP user but tried brother as required a bigger/quicker printer that could do more. It is constantly spitting ink out all over my invoices, done the usual checks and cleaned up the printer inside but no better. Never prints the colour properly, I'm glad I email my invoices other wise it would look a mess and very unprofessional. It also prints blurry so you can't read the words that have been printed on the paper. Will be changing brands as soon as my ink is used. I will NEVER purchase another Brother Printer again.
Brother.co.uk false advertising?
I've had brother printers for years so naturally looked to Brother again when my printer died after 10 years use, as such I ordered a MFC-J6940DW from Printerland which arrived the next day.
Having been made redundant a few weeks before and needing a printer to aid my job search, I
went for that particular model because Brother was running a promotion where you got a Lifetime warranty and £100 cashback when you registered the printer with Brother.
That meant I was able to get the printer that would be most use to me rather than settling for a cheaper model that wouldn't do everything I needed.
After several attempts to register on the website to no avail, I contacted Brother who said the advertised code for the offer was wrong, and gave me a new code which worked.
However, that was a few months ago and I still haven't received the cashback.
On reflection it appears the 'error in the promotion code' was a deliberate ploy to stop people claiming the offer, as clearly Brother had no intention of paying the cashback!
Great service - support for ancient printer
I have an ancient printer that I paid less than £50 for nearly 20 years ago. On buying a new laptop there was no windows 11 driver. I used to use it heavily when studying, less so now.
Claudia, on the chat help service, was great, sorted the driver problem and helped with a paper jam glitch I've had for a couple of years and not bothered to find a permanent fix for, until now.
Brilliant service.
printer going offline
printer going offline. happens all the time, a known problem but no known solution. i have spent the last 3 months uninstalling and re installing the printer, drivers and software, so me and my staff can use it. i have looked after it and its in good condition but i will probably put it in the bin to buy a network printer that can actually stay online on the network.
£250 repair charge after automatic Brother software update
Hardly used printer after a software update, completely stopped working. In order to fix it Brother service team asking for £250 +Vat + postage.
Just the worst printer I have ever used…
Just the worst printer I have ever used or owned. The worst customer service too. Don't waste your time or money.
They fixed it in the end, but only after a lot of chasing.
I was wrongly charged for a subscription that was supposed to be free as part of a promotion. It took a very long time for Brother to respond to my emails, and the refund process was extremely slow.
When I was finally refunded, the VAT was missing, which meant I had to chase them again. Although the VAT was eventually refunded too, the whole process was frustrating, time-consuming, and something I shouldn’t have had to deal with in the first place.
Everything has now been resolved, but I’m sharing this so others are aware and can be careful. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend them.
Poor poor poor customer service
Poor poor poor customer service. Their website kept glitching whenever I would try to downgrade or cancel my plan and I had to contact them directly. Then they charged me wrongfully for a further two months and each time I had to email for a refund as they confirmed cancellation. I paid £30 a month for 6 months for one set of cartridges - basically how much it costs to buy one set. Today I tried to print and it said I can't use the remainder of my ink, despite the fact that they can see i did not just pay one month and then cancel to get cheaper ink, they can see i've literally paid the full price of the ink and that it is still full. When I called and asked if I could just rebuy a subscription and it unlock the ink they said "no, you would have to buy a subscription and then wait for new ink". It's not very sustainable of them and it's very greenwashing for them to claim it's the sustainable way yet not even let you use the same product, what a waste of product. They also didn't mention in the email that the ink would be blocked after cancelling the subscription.
Worst customer service ever
Won't use hard words just write the sad truth.
bought one of there laser printers for £400 after 11 months the fuser burnt due to a jammed paper, was still in warranty - they came over to inspect and said we used 3rd party toners so warranty is void
nevertheless we only used the original toner - they don't care - they decided with no proof that we used 3rd party toner and simply left me with a loss of £400 this has been the worst piece of customer service i have ever witnessed, never buy brother.
Very poor customer service and…
Very poor customer service and unreliable machines. I bought a brother laser printer and paper comes out all wrinkled when priting and keeps jamming. I will.never buy their products again. Samsung printers are more reliable. Customer service would not replace the drum unit but expected me to pay over 100 for it when the printer only cost £70
Don’t buy …won’t stay connected ……
Don’t buy …won’t stay connected … support crap.. also can’t use cartridges I want to use .. I’m in tech 40 years .. this company downloads nothing except planned obsolescence protocol .. crap crap
Brother eco pro subscription is a con
Brother eco pro subscription is a con! I thought I would save money but it cost me far more and when I cancelled my subscription they froze me using the reminder of the cartridge so I had to buy another one. I thought my usage would carry over each month but boy was I wrong. Please don’t subscribe - it’s cheaper to buy the cartridges on Amazon. At least you get the full yield.

My parcel was left by DPD outside the block of flats. It disappeared. Brother sent me a replacement free of charge.
Poor printing service and ink subscription
Tried to join ecopro. Raised an IT request. No support for over a week. They keep escalating as urgent and you keep getting ignored. Do not buy their printers. HP service is so much better. Read Reddit. Everyone says the same thing about Brother.
Decent printer, non existent customer service
The printer was actually working surprisingly well and was easy to connect to.
Then it went wrong and it took days for their customer service to get back to me. When they did it was just to ask endless questions, which they asked again when I'd replied. Now they have what they need they've had the issue for 5 days with no response. Absolutely rubbish.
Brother Printer Buyers Beware
I am extremely disappointed and disgusted the way Brother UK has treated a loyal customer. We purchased a Brother Printer MFC-J4340DW in September 2021 for £260, it has worked well until October 17th 2025. I am presuming part of the reason is, in early October we changed our bank, due to branch closures, which is no fault of ours. I entered the updated banking details for the ink prescription. Now all of a sudden, the printer does not recognise prescription account and refuses to print. Chatted with customer support and they stated Tech Support would be in touch to update the system via Email. Looking on the support webpage and it too is coming up with an error and a blank page. I feel now Brother is no longer interested in their current customers. This is deliberate ploy to buy a new printer every time there are updates. I have a saying help the needy, NOT the greedy.
Excellent Support from Claudia Valeria!
I had an issue with my toner order, and Claudia Valeria provided outstanding support. She was professional, prompt, and very helpful, making the whole process smooth and stress-free. I really appreciate her assistance and highly recommend her support!
Cashback issues, poor CS, good printer
I do like the printer just to be clear, it works well, but getting cashback for my purchase has been a pain with brother. I'm emailing in monthly after the initial call months ago and getting no response back. Poor customer service and marketing by brother, they shouldnt have launched a campaign that they couldnt handle.
Avoid at all costs!
I run a small business and signed up to Brother’s EcoPro subscription in good faith. When I cancelled my subscription, Brother remotely disabled ALL of my toner cartridges — four in my printer and three unopened boxes, all paid for and physically full. Overnight, my printer became useless.
This left me unable to print legally required product labels, forcing me to refund customer orders and cancel attendance at a market. The direct financial loss and stress caused has been enormous.
EcoPro is advertised as something you can “cancel anytime”, which gives the impression it works like a gym membership or Amazon Prime. In reality, cancellation means your cartridges are bricked, even if they are brand new. If you re-subscribe, Brother sends out new cartridges instead of letting you continue using the ones you already have.
To make matters worse, Brother’s Customer Service and Support were absolutely useless. I received no practical help, no resolution, and no empathy — only a brick wall.
There is nothing “eco” about rendering seven perfectly good toner cartridges useless and forcing me to buy more. This practice is anti-consumer, environmentally damaging, and deeply unfair.
Brother — you have lost my trust, and I strongly advise other small businesses and consumers to avoid EcoPro and stick to standard toner purchases.
Yikes!
Yikes!
I must say, this is one of the worst purchases that we have made as a family. We have the DCP-L3520CDWE printer. The printer quality is really bad. It smudges constantly and doesn't seem to "stick" to the pages...like it wipes off.
Secondly, I think the ecopro subscription is pretty much a scam. I cancelled my subscription as I had signed up to one that was way beyond our actual needs. It rendered the entire printer useless. All of the cartridges (that are almost full) have to be disposed of and replaced.
I just...would not recommend it to anyone. It's expensive and the printer quality is horrendous.
