Awful awful awful! Been trying for over a week to get my car booked in because I have a service plan with them and they ether put me on hold then put the phone down or just don’t answer! They take your money and don’t bother giving you the service you expect.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent experience purchasing a vehicle from Evans Halshaw. Unfortunately, the level of customer service and the condition of the vehicle have been extremely disappointing, particularly considering the purchase price of over £10,000.
1. Lack of communication prior to collection
On 10/03/26 I attempted to contact the garage on several occasions to speak with the salesperson, however none of my calls were returned. I contacted the garage again on 11/03/26 and was informed that the salesperson was not working that day.
2. Collection arrangements
On 12/03/26 I contacted the garage again to ask whether it would be possible to collect the vehicle on Friday rather than Saturday as my plans had changed. After several attempts I managed to speak with the salesperson and we agreed that the vehicle would be ready to collect at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
As I was arriving by train, I asked whether it would be possible to arrange a short lift from the station. I was told this would not be possible due to lack of staff. This was disappointing considering the purchase value of the vehicle and the distance involved (approximately 2.9 miles).
3. Condition of the vehicle on arrival
I arrived at approximately 12:40 p.m. expecting the vehicle to be ready for collection. Instead, the car was still parked outside in the main car park, covered in dust and bird droppings. This was not the presentation I would expect when collecting a vehicle.
4. Lack of customer service in the showroom
After entering the showroom I walked around for approximately 15 minutes without being greeted or offered assistance. During this time I counted approximately 20 members of staff on the shop floor wearing Evans Halshaw clothing. This made the earlier explanation of “insufficient staff” rather surprising.
5. Observation of other customer dissatisfaction
While waiting I spoke with another customer who had been waiting for over three hours regarding a slow puncture. This further reinforced my concerns regarding the level of customer service.
6. V5 registration issue
When completing the paperwork I was informed that because my partner was not present, the V5 would need to be registered in my name rather than hers. I explained that I did not wish to be listed as the owner and was assured this could be changed within a week without me appearing as an additional owner.
Had we been informed in advance, we could have arranged a collection date where my partner could attend.
7. Serious concerns regarding the braking system
On the journey home I noticed a noise and shudder when braking. I had been told that the brake discs and pads were new and that the issue was likely surface rust due to the vehicle standing. I was advised that the issue would disappear during the journey. Unfortunately, after approximately 50 miles the problem remained.
On 14/03/26 my partner drove the vehicle to Exeter and back and experienced the same issue, describing loud noises and vibration when braking which made her feel unsafe and extremely distressed.
Given that the vehicle supposedly underwent an inspection on the morning of collection, it is concerning that such a serious issue was not identified. This naturally raises questions about what inspection was actually carried out.
8. Missing documentation
Upon arriving home I checked the vehicle and was surprised to find that there was no information folder containing the usual manufacturer documentation. There was no owner’s manual, radio information, dealer booklets, MOT certificate, or service history documentation.
I was informed that there would be a charge of £95 to obtain this information, which I find unreasonable. Documentation of this type is normally provided as standard when purchasing a vehicle.
9. Requirement to return vehicle for inspection
After reporting the braking issue, I was informed that because I did not purchase the additional warranty, I would need to return the vehicle to Newport for inspection. This would require driving approximately 50 miles despite my concerns that the braking system may not be safe.
Due to these safety concerns, I have requested that the RAC attend my home to inspect the brakes and confirm whether the vehicle is safe to drive.
Overall, the experience has been extremely disappointing and stressful. My partner is now extremely concerned about the safety of the vehicle and has even expressed that she no longer wishes to keep it.
I look forward to your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,

I took my car in for service and MOT at 08:00 and told it would be ready before 16:00. I still hadn’t heard anything at 15:45 so I went to see if all was ok. At about 15:55 whilst waiting in reception I had a text to say it was ready, so no complaints really. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. This is now my third or fourth car from Evans Halshaw.

Excellent service when taking my car for an airbag recall inspection. Was able to choose a time that suited me. Plenty of communication before the date. On the day easy to book in was advised it would take up to two hours. Went shopping locally while I waited.
Received a call after 40 mins to say it was ready. Staff were all polite and helpful.

I enquired on Abarth 595 that they have for sale & on video it wouldn’t start properly.

I wish dealerships would be honest & sort issues out without trying to hide them.
I guess that is what happens when a car is half a decade old with no service history.

I am appauld at the service you get from this garage. When I bought the car I was told you get x3 service and x3 mot buy purchasing the additional package. This is not true you only get x2. That aside, when you book it in they inform you they will be finished ie by 1, but when you drop it off they say it's booked for all day. The first time this happened I had no proof as it was a phone call. This time I had an email as proof, but still had to argue that it was one even though the proof was there in the email. Whil I was sat waiting I heard 5 other people moan for w various things. One lady just pick her car up following a repair and 20 mins later she returned saying there was smoke coming from her car and that they had just literally supposed to have fixed it. Another lady said it had gone down hill in the last few year and warned me to read they small print as they tell you one thing but the paperwork we all just sign but not read says a different thing. She will not be renewing her car either.
I will never in my life time use this garage again

My car was booked in for a tyre change at 2.30 pm yesterday and it was completed by 3.10 pm and I was on my home ,which was excellent.
Reception staff were very helpful and obliging.

Drop car. Off for Mot, meet by friendly staff as usual the car was ready by the time agreed only issue was the lack of parking for customers it seems to be getting worse, sure it can be resolved

Warning to others: Be cautious when dealing with this company. They sold me a car and pushed additional insurance policies, including tyre insurance, claiming I could replace tyres within 3 years. After purchasing, it took multiple requests to receive the policy documents, which revealed discrepancies with what was sold. When I requested a refund within a week as per policy terms, they stalled, citing admin fees despite clear terms stating a full refund within a month. Feels like a scam. Buyer beware.(£349 for each insurance? This company is totally ripping off customers 😡. Scamming people with false promises.)

Dropped my car off for service. The staff are always friendly and helpful. They always make you feel welcome with offers of hot drinks and will chat with the customers. The service was done within the time slot and cleaned!

SoBought a honda CRV from Newport branch. When I got home I took the time to check over the car and paperwork. I found the locking wheel nut key , warranty and service history were missing. I have phoned the salesman who said he would look into it three times but he never rings back. I have filled in complaint form with customer services twice and have had no response. They are just ignoring me now they have my money .
Five weeks on and things are improving. Got a copy of service history and am waiting for wheel locking nuts to be sorted.

Overall satisfied
Peeved they never clean the car properly, they never touch the back and the inside windscreen is left smeary
They refused to help with updating the satnav and we bought the car from them
I love my car and the convenient location of the garage/showroom to my house but I will think twice about purchasing from them again. The online form for booking MOT or service does not have a box to tick if you have a plan

My car went in for a service, which was fine. Staff were lovely and couldn’t be any nicer.
However at the end of the service I had to pay, I had my credit card to pay as we use this to protected us.
However I was told that I had to pay through a link and it would link to my bank.
I didn’t have this, I rang my husband and he was busy at work.
I asked why I couldn’t use my credit card and they said to save costs and keep the prices low- £455 for a service isn’t low.
I didn’t have a debit card on me so was struggling, the service desk lady was lovely.
My husband was able to come out of work to use link to pay but it connects to your bank and states you are paying a lithia UK holdings. Very weird and not easy for customers.

Appalling!! Booked mot with courtesy car. Was rang the night before to cancel and was told I would be contacted with a new date. I waited 2 weeks. Contacted you and was told there were no courtesy cars available before my mot date. We had to wait 4 hrs and were told to pick up car at 5. We arrived at 445. Only to be ignored. Finally we were told car was ready after a few photos were done. My local garage does an MOT in an hour. Why does it take you 4 hrs. I’m not local to garage so can’t get lifts back and for easily. Totally devastated.
