Explorer Travel Insurance Reviews 

This is our first time with Explorer travel but I can highly recommend this company, although fortunately we haven’t had to claim! The agents are very informative and in fact email with travel info and handy travel tips. They are UK based and give the impression that they are on your side, a cherished customer. If the annual renewal and health are ok, We fully intend using them again until we are no longer fit to travel. Bravo Explorer!

The travel insurance policy was perfect for our needs and competitive in price in this climate of rising renewal costs.

Website easy to use annual policy competitive fortunately never had to claim but we are now in our second year. Regular mails with useful information.

They were on the ball with the advice and detailing what my insurance I needed and optimum cover a needed for me and my wife to have a safe holiday without worrying.

I used Explorer for my northern European cruise in December ladt year. I took missed port cover out on my policy, and sure enough the stormy weather meant we missed Hamburg. Disappointing but couldn't be helped. I had my payout within a week of claiming. Great result..

My husband and I have been using Explorer insurance for many years using on line and their telephone service without any issues, staff always polite and professional, we are in our later 70's and thankfully have never had to make a claim. Costs have been fair ..as yet we have no complaints..we always reccomend Explore to family and friends whether it be a one off trip or annual..I can only suggest you give them a try.

So far my experience buying my travel insurance was easy. The price was good compared to other travel companies on the offer I had. I have not had to make a claim and therefore, unable to comment with regards to this. Hopefully, I won't have too either, but I know that I am covered for a whole year for my travels.

The best travel insurance. I caught Dengue Fever whilst backpacking and Ian Explorer were a life saver, helped me in New Zealand find a hospital on multiple occasions even for check up after and had doctors/nurses call me DAILY for over two weeks to check up on me. I will always use Explorer Insurance. Thank you!!

I have been using explorer for 10 years + and have always found their rates competitive and the staff very knowledgeable and helpful. I have 2 policies with them just now as I have a couple of cruises booked

This company’s website is very easy to use but I would not say that the premium was competitive as I found a policy a thousand pounds cheaper with a household name insurer. However, the true measure of an insurance policy is when a claim has to be made as their claims are administered by Gallagher Basset something which is not at all made clear. Gallagher Basset’s reviews on Trustpilot are absolutely shocking annd in my experience rightly so. Ask them who andministers insurance claims Explorer Insurance have essentially washed their hands of the whole matter. We are still in the middle of a claim from February, and I foresee that I will be taking both companies to FOS.
Since posting the above I have been advised by them that they do mention on page 40 (yes page 40) of the terms and conditions document that they use a claims administration company. However insurance contracts are termed contracts of ‘utmost trust’ and all relevant terms should be clearly displayed. It seems to me that they have contravened this and also FCA guidelines on such contracts, as nothing pre-sales mentions a separate claims company. Also policies are underwritten by another company which they claim means that they are acting on behalf of that other company, that is not my understanding of a policy being underwritten but again not mentioned in pre-sales literature. It seems to me that they are not taking responsibility for anything and hiding behind very very small print. I think this should be tested before FOS.
Actually rereading page 40 it does not mention claims management companies at all, never mind Gallagher Bassett. It seems to me that between them one company gets all the the good for all the pre-sales work and Gallagher Bassett gets 94% bad reviews which is why I suspect why Explorer Insurance do not mention them in their documents.
