Fidor Bank has just canceled my account after I migrated outside the EU and it refused to transfer the rest of my balance under the justification that they do not transfer to the country where I moved to, although it is a normal country with big banks like HSBC, Standard Chartered, Citibank etc...
I have just learned that they are closing the bank as of 2023, so there is no wonder.
I understand that they can cancel any account without giving reasons as per terms and conditions and I have no complaints here, I also can understand that they restrict regular wire transfers to some non-blacklisted countries for whatever reasons. But, there should be no issue or restriction to transfer to my country EXCEPTIONALLY for ONE TIME to repay the rest balance once the contract is canceled. Haven't you guys faced or thought of a scenario where your customers move outside your operating countries, and close the account? What should they do in this case? Utterly silly. This is tantamount to a scam! I will report this incident to the BaFin and make sure to mention the bank and its owning group who did this malpractice because where I reside officially now, there is no restriction whatsoever on transfers from Germany.
They prompted me to use a third party to withdraw the rest balance, utterly scandalous to say the least. Lesson learned: I will be moving some of my money to non-CBCD cryptos to avoid the banking sector altogether, they are authors of their own demise. Banks are encroaching on our rights after having destroyed our privacy.

No reason on email, phone, just a robot like response, where they hope I’ll be ok.
This kind of practice must be stopped, this behavior is affecting people’s life, is time consuming.
So i do not recommend working with fidor ever.

that bank is one big waste! they took €157 from me for a loan. they told me that if they receive my money in their account, they will send me my loan. but then they asked for another €420 for credit insurance, which they didn't mention in advance. now they have gone silent leaving me in a very bad situation!!

Unfortunately I have to complain about the process of transferring money from my bank account to another bank account in Switzerland. I needed to send urgently 6.000€ (yes, only 6.000€ which for some one can be 1 month salary). Fidor bank blocked this transaction asking for reasons why and who I am sending those money. They even asked me to prove a resource of those money and a lot of unappropriate questions. As all the approval process from their side took long time (more than a week), I have asked the cancellation of this transfer as it was too late and money were not needed to be sent anymore. I have informed them about cancellation just after they sent me an email that it still needs to go for another approval. But their response (2 days later) was that it is not possible anymore and that money will be transfered.
First of all this whole process of questioning reasons and origin of money seems to be quite unpropriate when sending such a small amount. I would understand if it is big amount but not 6.000€. And secondly refusing to cancel the payment (when it was not yet fully approved) is not the behavior I would wish from my bank.
Therefor I would like to officially complain about this process and want to request return of fee for transferring money that I have requested to be cancelled.

After suspending my account and re enabling it after I provided all the necessary info you guys have now just cancelled my account. However I don't have access to it where my life savings are and no one is replying to my emails.... This is scandalous!!! I cannot call the support as I don't speak German so now I am left with all my money on an account I cannot access... great!!!! Please escalate my case and reply via email. I have already contacted my lawyer as this is clearly not a way to handle clients. Really annoyed by the situation as I complied with everything you asked I did not touch my account for the last 3 months and now you just close it....

Would suggest to look for better options.

I switched to Fidor because they were very innovative and kept one step ahead of others. Now they are 10 steps behind. In the past, advertising was done with free cards and free account management, now everything costs money and many functions have been removed. Very important core functions don't work, and the BPCE doesn't give a s##t about the bank.

If I were wrong, and you actually cared about the bugs, you might have more than just 2 stars, right? That's what I meant in my title, because more and more people are using Fidor and I don't think anything will change for the better.

As an update to the below - they had unblocked my account 4 days previously to writing this review, but had not sent me any notification of this even though I was communicating with them more than twice a day via as many channels as I could so they let me continue to badger and put me through days of stress unnecessarily. Weird!
Then they sent me a letter of termination of my account with two months notice, with zero explanation as to why they're deciding to dispose of me as a customer, and I still can't get a reason out of them.
The way I've been treated I'm more than happy to close the account and was going to do that anyway. But it's a bit like being dumped first even though you were going to dump them anyway! Ha Ha.

They blocked my account as they wanted some info for 2 transactions that happened from accounts that were shut down a year ago.
I tried to get the info in time, but this was tricky as it was so old and accounts were already closed.
Nevertheless, they blocked my account and now I can't even get them on the phone as all their reps (5 different ones today) deny that they speak English!
My High school German from 30+ years ago seems to be better than the level of English spoken at a German bank in 2021!
I'm getting the Ombudsman and the CEO of Fidor involved as no matter how many emails or calls I make there is no evidence of a forward resolution.
I look forward to Fidor's canned response here and to trying to learn German again within a few days after 30+ years, so I can converse with their reps.
All I need from them right now is a statement showing MY money as I'm buying a house and need this evidence for my Mortgage broker but they are not even responding to that request.
There is no regard for the personal circumstance of their customers! I'm frankly appalled at their behaviour.
I totally understand and respect the anti-money laundering measures but the response from them since blocking my account at a very critical time, is totally unacceptable.
If they reach a resolution with me by the end of this week I will update this review.

Unfortunately your feedback is not helpful or can not stand as a response to my complaint as my account is still locked after a month now .
As a bank working with wide range of regulations and legislations, as you understand what is basic, friendly communication is not required, as clients prefer clear and detailed communications.
I have been patient and locked out of my account for a MONTH now.
Personally this has caused a lot of damages to me as a person and FIDOR BANK seems to ignore my complaints.
I have to disagree when you said FIDOR BANK doesn’t make a statement as i was assured by your representative on different occasions that my account will be unlocked, and that was never the case. Please refer to my first complaint for more details .
All requirements by FIDOR BANK have been provided for the last one MONTH now, why can't my account be unlocked?
PLEASE I NEED MY ACCOUNT TO BE UNLOCKED, AS A PERSON I HAVE NEEDS FOR MY SALARY ON MY ACCOUNT! YOUR ACTIONS ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL AND QUESTIONABLE BY THE RIGHT AUTHORITIES.

I used to have my Fidor Account for about 8 years. Today I got a letter for extraordinary notice of cancellation. Here is what happened: My Credit Card expired in July this year. I never got a new Credit Card until the end of September. When I finally received my Credit Card and needed to activate it, my card was blocked as apparently Fidor sent the Credit Card months ago but I only received it by the end of September. I immediately protested and told the customer service to please activate the card. The customer service on the phone told me to send an email, which I did. I got told that I needed to order a new Credit Card as they couldn't activate the one that has been sent as they sent the card 3 months ago, according to their Paperwork. I refused to pay for a new card as it is clearly NOT my fault, and I told them that I will appeal and complain at the authorities in Germany. That was about two weeks ago. Since then the Bank has been silent. And today I got a letter for extraordinary notice of cancellation. I can't access my bank account anymore, my login is blocked. Needless to say, I will make this as public as possible. This is a no-go. Unlawful and needs to taken seriously by the authorities.

Locked out since September 14th. I cannot login to the website as it needs the app to confirm and I cannot login to the app as the SMS is not accepted. Customer service is not existing, emails are replied by useless and unrelated standard phrases (try again later...). I sent a complaint to BAFIN but nothing happened yet. Unbelievable that this is a bank in Germany.

i tried signing into my account, and i was told my account have been blocked. i have tried to reach the custormers service so that it can be unblock but no avail. i have written severals to the customer but nothing. I have funds insides my account and i need that money.

This bank is supposed to give the possibility for opening the business account for German non-residents! This is not true, awful and not explained refuses from their side. You can open business account in better-known banks in Germany and even with better conditions with less membership amounts.
