I had one year using Fidor bank account fine, however they started to change policy and it did not fit with me anymore..therefore I left the account balance as 0 and moved all my funds to somewhere else. Back in December 2019 they started to charge me account service fee and cut money directly from that account without informing me. I cancelled the account immediately early December, in January 2020, I got another email to ask me to pay for the account service fee......To write email is in vain, no one answers; to call is also the same, no one answers. This is insane!!!! I put stars in two instead of one, because I still have 1 year fine with them! But not anymore!!!!! UPDATE right after their response below: After so many negative reviews on your bank, I see no real apologizes from you. I change the two stars to 1.

Super unfriendly and unsupportive staff, terrible banking experience: Filed an online fraud, emphasized on urgency as fraudster was in the UK - NOTHING HAPPENED FOR 6 MONTH! I called every week, just to FILE THE SAME TICKET OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Finally, they started a Reverse Charge process - and of course, nothing happened as time ran out. Banking comes from trust - and I don't trust this "bank" anymore. Change your account and leave the bank as soon as you can!!!! Go to Penta or Qonto

I have used my free bank account without problems for over a year. Then I didn't need the account anymore, so transferred remaining funds to my day-to-day account (wanted to delete the account but no clear info on the website on how to do so). Then, some months later, I'm notified that I'm in the negative - turns out Fidor has started charging monthly fees without clear communication! This was never properly communicated, the internal message system alone does not count as you're not notified of a new message, and no email was ever sent. When sending them an email to complain and request closure of the account they take more than a month to reply, saying that yes they can close the account but I still have to pay the fees that I never agreed to. Illegal, fraudulent and banking maffia are some words that come to mind, stay away!

They don't accept my account termination to keep earning their 5 EUR per month. Very poor. Bad customer service.
Fidor is an absolute disaster! I try to reach them to close my account. Nobody answers the phone even after hours on the line and nobody answers an email for weeks! And then they charge you for not closing your account for another month. This is just ridiculously bad customer service.
And then they claim that they informed you about a change in the AGB which is simply not true. I have received no email or letter from Fidor for over a year and certainly not on the date they claim they sent one.
This bank is a fraud - keep away!

i made an account by the bank, but the same day I changed my account data they send me a letter to tell me they closed my account.
I had to ID myself.I did that too. Multiple times. No result. No reopening of the account for the remaining time till termination.
I wanted access to my account, I have done that ID thing multiple times, I was also calling and waiting on the line ....for hours...no exageration, I am right now on the line and I have been staying on the line for more then 40 minutes...absolutely no answer!
They had neither reopened my account till the time it expires, nor answer my phone calls nor even transferred my money to another one of my accounts. I have my landlord wants to kick me out because I can´t manage to get the money from them and pay my bills.
Ah, plus they told me that actually I have terminated my account with them. No I did not, they mixed my account with an old, closed one. What a joke!
The client service is completely useless and close the phone in your face... that is if they answer...
I never once had access to my own account online! Not once even!
The last week I tried to call. Nobody answered me.
If I could give less than a star I would.
I will never ever advise anyone or make myself an account with this bank. So deeply disappointing.
They create financial problems to their clients because they don't do their designated job, what a joke!

Without announcement started to charge me monthly 5 EUR inactivity fee. This is very close to fraud!
Update on the answer: Fidor put announcement in the "Sonstiges" folder in the postbox on their web site (which i no longer use). Fidor lies about email. I get no mails from them after April 2019 and until a few weeks ago when they started complaining that my account is in minus because of their new fees. In fact, it seems that they changed my notification settings to prevent delivery of fidor internal messages to my email to prevent me from knowing about their manipulation with prices.
Furthermore, i have immediately requested to terminate my account (over email as nobody seems to answer the phones and there is no other way to close account). They ignore these emails already for 2 weeks, but have time to post lies here.

I had a Fidor bank account. I have used more than 1 year and it was fine. But, suddenly, I got an email that my account will be closed without any specific reason. Ordentliche Kündigung? I have contact the supporter and the answer was so funny. They said "We can close the account without any reason. Please take back your money within 2 months.". I see many reviews that their credit is locked. Don't use Fidor bank. You can lose your money if you don't focus your account.

MY CARD STILL DOESN'T WORK
I wrote a review on October 18th explaining that my card was always declined except from ATM withdrawal. I live in Paris and when I use it at any business or vendor I insert the card and it doesn't ask for my PIN! It simply says "declined".
The response I received from FIDOR explained, "The terminals are asking for a signature and it is required to give a PIN. You must ask the vendors to make sure the terminals are adjusted for a PIN."
I have tried everything and every business has tried to get my card to read and it simply won't. It only asks for a PIN at the ATM. My American visa? Asks for signature and I sign. My American debit card? Asks for a PIN, which I enter and everything works. FIDOR IS THE ONLY CARD NOT WORKING. I requested a replacement card, and confirmed just last night (06/11/19) that yet again my new card does the same thing and doesn't work. Only by ATM.
This is completely unacceptable. Nearly all of my funds are in this bank and yet...I'm sitting here not able to spend my money except for cash. WHAT DO I DO?

Fidor.de used to be great. I have had an account with them for nearly 3 years and have not had any problems, but in the last few months, it has deteriorated massively.
Unfortunately, Fidor.de customer service has completely disappeared. I sent a few questions regarding the tariff changes on the 29th August and have followed up with another email on 30th September but still no reply. I've called today and after an hour of "hold" music, I have given up.
I realise you have now closed your UK bank, but surely there is still someone in customer service in Munich? Or did all your customer service people work in the UK and have now been sacked?
I really don't want to close my account as I use it to send funds to my family, but if you cannot answer some simple questions, I don't have a choice.
If anyone at Fidor.de reads this, my email ref is 2067624 FIDE (from the confirmation email you sent me on the 29/8/19). PLEASE RESPOND!

Thanks for your reply, showing you actually care about your customers. A rare treat these days. BUT:
SMS Tan is useless while roaming or with a foreign number. Google Authenticator would satisfy directive #2.
Or maybe this nuisance is deliberate honouring the hidden 18 in your logo.

Fidor Germany are far too slow to respond to emails. The first email I sent them some months back was for them to update the mobile number I had in my account. That took them 2 weeks to do. 2 weeks ago I emailed them again to ask them to close my Fidor bank account due to the new 5 euro charge fee they will be introducing on the 1st of November 2019. I am with other banks and not a single one of them are as slow as Fidor bank is in responding to a customer's email. If Fidor do not respond to the email I sent them asking them to close my Fidor bank account, I will be filing a complaint with the authorities.

I've banked with Fidor for nearly 2 years. Many things they have messed up or done wrong:
1. Hidden fees everywhere
2. They closed access to my account for about 7 straight days because my Aufenthaltstitel had expired -- I had actually gotten citizenship in the meantime. No warning, no asking for information early, just closing access -- I could not even check balances of online banking.
3. I've tried 3x to close my account by emailing them, as they request. I have had NO ANSWERS. Zero replies. I am sick and tired of this, and will simply ignore anything else they try to do.
4. Lack of proper phone lines. They insist on using emails.
PS: I write in English because many Germans can read English, but not vice versa. 99% of my communication with Fidor has been in German.

I opened an account to fidor and after 4 months of daily use fidor bank decided to close and freeze my account without any warning or notice. I had to call customer support 10 times because 9/10 customer support employees do not even speak english. When i finally reached an employee who speaks english he said to me that i do not know why my account got frozen and we will in invetigate this and contact you as soon as the problem has resolved. I waited for about 2 weeks and i got a letter by fidor which did not give me any information of my account status whatsoever. Even more wrong is that fidor also decided to block the incoming payments to my account and sent the remaining funds to their original senders causing me financial losses and a lot of hard work lost.
