Labour run Council
I would to to express my deep dissatisfaction with Islington Council’s approach to its residents — particularly in relation to parking enforcement, road conditions, and the lack of consideration shown during exceptional personal circumstances.
It feels as though residents are treated as cash cows. Visitor and contractor parking charges are excessive, making it difficult for anyone to attend properties for even short visits. Meanwhile, road maintenance throughout the borough remains inadequate. A clear example is Brewery Road (N7 9NH), where potholes and uneven surfaces persist. Ironically, while there seems to be enough tar to install frequent speed humps (I counted nearly 20 on Roman Road alone, spaced roughly every 50 metres), there isn’t enough attention paid to filling dangerous potholes.
More distressingly, my wife and I were recently forced to travel abroad due to a very close family bereavement. Upon returning after nearly a month away, we discovered that our vehicle — which had a valid resident parking permit — had been relocated due to a temporary bay suspension. To make matters worse, a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) had also been issued.
I submitted an appeal explaining the circumstances, but it was promptly rejected, and paid the fine, as there were more important issues to deal with.
This shows a lack of empathy and fairness. In central London, private parking isn’t a luxury. The expectation that we should check for parking suspensions on foot daily is both unreasonable and impractical, especially when out of the country.
Given that the council holds our contact information — including email and postal address — it would be entirely reasonable to notify permit holders in advance when suspensions are issued in their designated zones. The current system lacks basic consideration for the realities of everyday life.
I urge the council to review its approach to resident communications, especially in regard to parking suspensions and enforcement. Additionally, more effort should be made to address the deteriorating road conditions across the borough
The revenue generated from motorists should be reinvested in a way that supports — rather than penalises — the very residents funding it.

Just to let you know that I tried to…
I tried to get help with ASB and someone from the Islington Council recorded voicemail without any help where to call back.apart of telling that i can submit report again I could not give any feedback as the case was closed. This is all pretending to help with ASB .Absolutely useless.
Just to say, the antisocial behaviour department and page are not functioning , I try to report dog's neglect, I receive voicemail, whiteout any helpful information .I was exposed to stress for more then two days including talking with the owner , who was aggressive when I tried to solve the problems .She left pupies alone at home and they were barking during day and nights. This night was quite but I am worrying about dogs welfare a lot .I tried to report online and system is not working I called to the number 0207 527 7272 and the person sent me back to the system and the system is broken .I feel unsafe and puppies , I have no idea what is happening with them but it is no sounds from her flat today .RSPS which was recommended in voicemail without number was not responding too.Islington council's ASB neglect is irresponsible.
Just absolutely useless and awful
So much money wasted by this council. I will never vote labour again. The worst UK government that I remember. The council offices are ridiculous, called one night for an emergency repair. The attitude of the person on the phone was disgusting. Loud music playing in the background, people shouting and some female on the phone skinning her teeth practically every time I opened my mouth. The rent and council tax increases keep happening with a decline is services every year. Charging £18 per week for someone to wash a floor (I'll do it myself). Get rid of half the council workers, employee people who are happy to try and help their residents, sack those that think it's appropriate to skin the teeth on a call and train your customer service staff, they are appalling I hope we all have the sense to get rid of the labour councillors. You had a chance and attack the elderly and disabled, you are not a labour party you are far worse than any recent Tory leaders. Shocking council and services.
Islington Council lack consistency in…
Islington Council lack consistency in all departments. Repairs, lack of follow-up, complaints lack of follow up and do not deal with valid information, closed complaint prematurely. Customer service, well you are lucky if you get a polite, professional person. (This has been going on from September 2024, my complaint)
I am currently awaiting the Housing Ombudsman.
Environmental Health useless
Don’t bother with the Environmental Health department for reporting rogue landlord disrepair as they *apparently* don’t have any powers to rein them in. A good time to be a landlord if you want to abuse and harm your tenants without seriously maiming or killing them so they don’t automatically qualify for no win no fee.
Islington Council don’t care whether I die in a fire or have any electric supply for a flat that the taxpayer is shelling out £1400+/month for and is mostly only used for storage now. No wonder so many tenants have lost their lives due to poor fire safety/dangerous disrepair in recent years.
Go straight to Court and skip them other than for ticking boxes for exhausting the process.
I spent 6 years living in Islington…
I spent 6 years living in Islington great place, the council however are disgusting, useless, morons to be polite after years of dealing with them I am glad to be free of them.

My family after 65 years and I mean my whole family. The last one moved out today when we went in there was 22 of us thank you Islington Council for nothing you could have helped
I absolutely hate dealing with…
I absolutely hate dealing with Islington repair team. I took a day off work to stay at home and wait for them, only to get a call saying that repairmen came and knocked on door at 8am and no answer.....mind you, my son was getting ready for college at the alleged time, so 2 people in the house and your repair team came knocked on my door 👀👀👀, the bare face lie from Islington Council teams is just absolutely ridiculous.
So now me and my family have to live with a faulty electrical lights that keeps blowing out and sparks from sockets and light fixtures for another week 🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️🤦🏿♀️.
It's an absolute joke, I can afford to be taking time off just for your repairmen not to turn up.
Unfair parking charge
Cheat people with these ridiculous controlled parking zones. Got a parking ticket for parking on a single yellow line even though it was past midnight on a Sunday and there were no sign saying it was restricted at that time so thought I could park there after 6.30 pm.
Appeal was still rejected as they say there are large signs when there wasn't. The parking officer will take loads of pictures of your car but no pictures of the actual signage.
How hard is it just to have proper signage.
I spoke to a gentleman this morning…
I spoke to a gentleman this morning about difficulty with a PCN he was kind listened to what I had say he was also very understanding and extremely helpful if he deals with all customers that way he is an absolute asset to the Council
misinformtion!
I have been told multiple times that ALL calls are recorded by Islington Council to now be emailed to say no such call from my phone number has been recorded is a failure of the system/technology and i dont appreciate being told I am a liar.
I was told I could park on my street by someone that worked for the council and this call WAS recorded!
I am deeply upset I have not been allowed to contest a parking penalty based on someone that works for the council just making up information

Thanks Islington Council too.
Islington Estate Parking
I have made 2 complaints to Islington Estate Parking and have received no reply. The service is disgusting. There are bays empty on my estate and I am disabled.
Deplorable council who use intimidatory tactics
Deplorable council. I complained by phone about illegal activity and they refused to let me submit my complaint anonymously, which is very normal practice/allowed with a lot of other councils. Instead, they probed me about my address and how long I'd been living there, taking my reluctance to share my full personal details as a sign of me living there illegally (which is hilariously ironic considering the amount of wrong 'uns the council happily house for free). I said multiple times that I was uncomfortable sharing my personal details, and that I had a right to complain anonymously.
I foolishly ended up baulking and giving the address of my building as the woman at the other end of the phone adamantly refused to follow up my complaint unless I did so. Then a week or so later, and completely out of the blue, my landlady is told by the council that they'll be randomly inspecting the building in a matter of days. My landlady, who owns several blocks of flats, said this is the first time this has happened to her in years, which can only mean one thing...the pathetic council worker issued this inspection as a warped punishment for me being reluctant to give my personal details, rather than actually looking into the illegal activity I reported.
Needless to say, my complaint was never followed up, and the sad acts who inspected the building didn't sniff out any untoward rental activity, as they were hoping to find. Pathetic bunch.
Horrible
Horrible. The constant works on the streets which contribute to additional traffic and pollution are atrocious. Not worth living here anymore.
If it was possible to leave no star
If it was possible to leave no star, I would. I have a resident parking permit and I recently exchanged my car for a different one, so I needed to update my car details for my permit. I changed the car on the weekend and on Sunday I logged online to update my details. I updated my details and then it said 'pending'.... so I called the council on Monday morning, and they told me that it takes 3 days!! to update car details on their system. I asked if they could do it manually, because i need to renew and update my parking permit, they did that, and then I paid & renewed my parking permit for my new car. I received a parking fine on the Monday, I of course appealed. That got rejected, despite explaining the situation. I appealed again, but it seemed that the parking director is illiterate, I attached my receipt that showed I paid for the permit on the Monday, but apparently the permit didn't start until the following day...even though I paid for it on Monday. I also explained in the appeal that you told me that it takes 3 days! to update details. So my question is, how is anyone supposed to update their parking permit and car details if it takes 3 days!! that means there is no way to avoid parking a car that isn't registered, it makes no sense. No wonder this country and the councils are crumbling, they are money-snatching thieves!
Utter disgrace to council tax payers
Utter disgrace to council tax payers.
It seems that most people I have encountered working here are incredibly lazy, rude and uneducated. There is no platform to enable constructive feedback on their website. Their parking permit renewal processes are unfit for purpose and result in people with permits receiving PCN's. I have been pressured to pay for a ticket which was incorrectly issued because of their process takes a stupidly long time register a change of vehicle. It's a disgrace to be ripping off residents like this.
I also once paid £70 for a planning permission consultation, which lasted 5 minutes. To be basically told, I should get independent advice on listed building permission! Which is something any halfwit can tell you if you live in a listed building. Staff are complete uneducated and do not listen to you.
Islington council, and it's staff are unfit for purpose.
DISCRIMINATION AND KEEPING PEOPLE AT RISK
Islington council seem to be staffed with the most unqualified and unprofessional people who lack any form of responsibility to their employed role as they seem to not be able to identify the needs of tenants. I am currently in a lengthy process for them to assist with ASB and disrepair in an unfit for human habitation they simply refuse to follow their own policies. They also seem to persecute you if file complaints regarding the services which clearly need improvements in every department. I strongly advise people to learn and execute their human rights gain legal knowledge and research equality as all this council do is practice nothing but gatekeeping and Discriminatory actions.
