I got Josh who helped me with my new van. Was such a seamless and smooth process. Would highly recommend. Saved me a headache.

So after buying our Mercedes A class through John Clark Select Edinburgh…. I have NO WORDS…. Oh actually here’s a couple that spring to mind:-

I will write this review fairly and so start with the Good points. The salesman Joshua was really helpful. When we first noticed an issue with the car (the same day we bought it) he promptly asked us to book it into a local garage. The problem continued though and as we live 80 miles away it agreed it could go into a local wv dealer who diagnosed further issues. We were suppossed to get our £144 back from this and we are STILL waiting reimbursement. The car was diagnosed with broken drive shafts. We agreed to go ahead and let them take it back to Edinburgh for repairs. John the manager was very helpful up until this point.

The hire car they provided was nowhere the same spec as the car we bought and came absolutely covered in dog hair which set off my allergies. It took a month for the car to be repaired, xmas was in between so that's fair enough but then they blamed the rest of the delay on us which felt very much like gaslighting. They said my partner had 'fixed the boot issue' and it delayed it having to try and find a boot issue ' that didn't exist'. Actually my partner had found it working one day after pushing something back, but we still wanted it properly checked, so the delay wasn't our fault as it should have been getting checked anyway?!! I think they delayed it so it would pass the 28 day grace period and we couldn't reject the car.

We were forced to drive the hire car to Liverpool on a trip and unfortunately the windscreen cracked (we think due to a stone hitting it from the road). We were then told we would have to pay then 750 excess or pay for the windscreen to be replaced which would cost 650. I rang to complain to John the manager that I felt it should be wavered given the ongoing situation and that we shouldn't have even been in such a position if our car had come working (as you expect it would when paying thousands for a car).

Generally, I found that John had an unnecessary defensive attitude towards me. Kept trying to put words in my mouth and gaslight. Made out they had done us a favour by fixing the car (which is the bare minimum you expect when buying a faulty car, not a favour or an exceptional service). Apology was backhanded and patronising, couldn't muster any genuine compassion at how stressful the situation had been. In fairness, towards the end he did apologise, but it felt a bit late. Overall I think the sales staff are great, but cars should be more thoroughly tested and driven before sale. Management need some serious training dealing with difficulties with customers and could learn alot by using some compassion. John was great with the practical stuff, but good customer service is about much more than that.

We are about 650 quid down with having to replace a hire car windscreen and the garage still owes us 144. Not what you expect when buying a vehicle.

Good points and bad points but overall wouldn't use this garage again

Dealt with Joshua from the Glasgow Road branch in Edinburgh. From the moment I enquired about my new car , communication from him has been excellent ! The whole transaction ran smoothly from start to finish assisted by there finance team in Aberdeen. Very friendly staff !! Would highly recommend using John Clark.

Bought my Mercedes A Class from this garage recently. All staff very friendly and helpful . My salesman was Josh, a lovely person and extremely helpful. Josh made the whole process of buying, trading in and changing plates hassle free. Would definitely recommend this garage.

Bought a bmw 320i from john clark dec 2024.My sales representative was jimmy who i found to be very informative and pleasant to deal with.Kept me informed through each step including a video walk round of the car i was buying.When i came to collect car he picked me up from train station.Would of gave a 5 star review but im still waiting for a tyre inflation kit that was apparantly sent december but not arrived as of yet.

Bought a car from them in October and the service during the sale from Jimmy and Josh was great. Unfortunately their after sales customer service lets them down badly. Breakdowns happen so I was happy to let them investigate and fix the issue when the car broke down after 2 weeks, however I’m so fortunate this happened within the 30 days and so when I was treated appallingly I was able to hand the car back and get a refund. I was lied to daily about the progress on the vehicle and even told at one point that they were on hold to the Audi Garage in Dundee trying to get an update as we spoke. So I came off the phone from them and got straight through to Dundee Audi and got an update from them saying they had been waiting 4 days for approval from the Edinburgh garage to continue investigations. Conveniently once I requested a refund they all of a sudden could tell me the car would soon be fixed (despite them telling me they didn’t know what was wrong with it yet).
I requested a courtesy car and was told the only way this could happen was if I travelled to Edinburgh to collect it. When I explained to John Gilfillan (the manager) that my husband was offshore, I had no childcare for my 1, 7 and 9 year old and that it would take me 7/8 hours to get there on public transport, he told me it was my own fault for living where I do and also my own fault that I was choosing to take my 3 children with me. At that moment I realised what a lucky escape I’d had and I’ll thankfully never have to deal with them again. I even waited over a week for the refund to come through and had to phone daily to chase it, then when they did refund me they didn’t even have the courtesy to phone/email to confirm it had gone through.

Very professional and trustworthy outfit. Great selection of cars across all price brackets. Jimmy was who I dealt with. He was very honest and knowledgeable. Would strongly recommend.

We made an initial approach via the internet about a car we were interested in and Jimmy made contact with a very useful video walk around the Tiguan in question.From there it was very professionally handled. I was getting s little overwhelmed with the "paperwork"and Jimmy very calmy took us thru the procedure. On arrival to the dealership a warm welcome awaited and the completion of the purchase was swift and clean. Highly recommend the delership and Jimmy.

Excellent service and communication

We live in Aberdeen and found the car we wanted at this Edinburgh branch. Josh made things very easy for us, phone call, emails, texts and online forms all worked in getting us to the sale. When Josh not available for all my questions, his colleagues were a great help. Turning up for a view and test drive could not have been made easier. On pick up day, the car was immaculate and Josh spent a good deal of time explaining the car and all its workings (in the freezing cold). Big Thanks to Josh and JC Select.

Salesman lied that the BMW I bought had a FSH. The car had runflats which needed replaced and they put on cheap budget tyres and then found out a couple of months after ownership that the car had previously been accident damaged. Breached GDPR of previous owner. The salesman ignored emails and phone calls. Made a complaint and Mr John Gilfillan basically said to prove it. Made a complaint to the motor ombudsman and urge everyone else to do the same.

The salesman we dealt with made up some convincing stories about the car which were all lies. If you buy a car from them, then record and document everything to back yourself up when you have a problem. No need for a response from JC Select Edinburgh as you have made your position clear.
