Roof Repair - Happy Customer
Spoke to a number of Roofing companies over the last 4 weeks but 3 out of 4 of the companies did not attend their appointment. John from Lomond was the only one that came out. I have a major issue with regrds to my roof as it was leaking through the bad weather. I was quoted last year a crazy amount from a local southside company but decided not to go with them but this year i decided i had to bite the bullet and get it fixed. John explained all my options and was able to do the job £1700 less than my perivous quote. The workmen were respectful of my property and more imortently fixed my roofing. I can honestly say i would use them again. Im hoping i dont but you get my point. Thanks again.

DO NOT AGREE TO GET A QUOTE UNLESS...
Someone came to the door to ask if we wanted a quote for work and my partner agreed to get one for roughcasting. They asked if they could send someone later that night and we agreed. Note - They were due to come almost immediately after I finished work. Between that and covid restrictions they would NOT have been asked back had we known that it would take over TWO HOURS of having a stranger sat in our living room after self isolating due to covid since March!
You get a massive presentation (which they must know you don’t understand - if you understood it, you’d probably be trained and be doing your own rough-casting, right?) that lasts ages. They then have you guess how much you’re going to pay (‘’are we high end? Low end? What would you expect to pay from a man with a van? From a top end company?’’) and without actually giving you a price then launch into trying to sell the finance option to you.
Eventually, you wheedle prices out of them. After they try to make you convince them to let you be a ‘show home’ for a discounted price - great sales/psychological tactic - make the buyer feel like THEY have to convince the seller.
Obviously they start excessively high in price so that when they come down to a more reasonable one you think you’ve got a deal, fabulous. There are phone calls to the ‘boss’ (Derek) and pained faces to show that they’ve really reached as low as they can go.
When I said ‘’we wanted a quote, and I don’t make decisions on thousands of pounds without looking into the company and checking other quotes’’ the lad seemed annoyed and feigned confusion over why someone would want to check what they’re buying for £6,000 before committing - I was scrolling through review sites but he wanted me to look at only Trust Pilot and ignore the bad reviews. We were pressured to do it then and there without going and looking into reviews or what made what they were offering different to what any other rough caster would offer.
There’s no brochure / literature left for you to read - I took photos of some of the pages to read over later (again, there was no way we were understanding what it said / what was going on without time to digest the information!).
We were not informed of half of the things door-to-door salesmen are required to inform you of - first and foremost being that they ARE there with the intent to sell you something rather than to provide a quote as stated on first contact- he even said he was from the advertising department of the company at one point while trying to sell the show-home bit.
Also contact details for the business, details on how to make a complaint, right to cancel etc. were all skimmed over if mentioned at all - right to cancel only being mentioned in the signed paperwork.
He mentioned they were part of the NFRC - National Federation of Rough Casters or something to that effect. When looking it up I have no idea if they are a part of it, but regardless it’s the National Federation Of Roofing Contractors, so they’re not even sure what the name is of what they're signed up to.
The guy came on the 10th of November, we e-mailed saying we wanted our deposit back on the 11th, the money came out of my partners account on the 13th and their cancellation department called on the 16th and said they’d get the money back to us. We e-mailed again on the 2nd saying that we had not yet received the money and were told it had been a mistake on their end, at which point the money was refunded.
I do not wish to be contacted by Lomond Improvements about this review - I have seen replies to others where they claim these incidents are one offs, not representative etc - if true, it would not have been happening since the company began as can be seen by other reviews. It's just amazing to me they've got away with this behaviour for so long.
This review will be on more than one review site - though they have already attempted to remove it from one other site!
UPDATE : Lomond contacted my partner a while after I posted this to ask him to tell me to take my review down. When the guy realised he was on speakerphone and I was there, he asked why I rated a 1 and began offering gifts (flowers, wine, gift cards to M&S) to apologise / asking what it would take for me to take the review down / saying it doesn't merit 1 star. It was a 30 minute phone call going round in circles, though the guy was nice enough. Explained over and over again that I would not take the review down for trinkets. He said ''fair enough, but I'm still sending something as a gesture of goodwill'' which of course never came. He asked what they could do, but it's obvious from reading old reviews that their tactics have remained the same over a period of years, the only thing they can do (not using dodgy, pressure sales practices) - isn't something they're interested in doing.

Recently had my roof done with Lomond Improvements. Can truthly say that my experience was very good, guys were professional and efficient throughout the process. The work was done in a timely fashion, and full clean up was done at end of work, which was my biggest concern.
Thank you Lomond Improvements for a truly professional job. Very happy.

5 stars
Outstanding work done by Lomond Improvements. Had a great experience with the surveyor who first came to my house to quote both my roof and rough cast, he was a really pleasant man. The level of work was done to a high standard and very quickly. I will be recommending this company to any family and friends.

Really wish I went elsewhere.
We had a lovely appointment on the purchase of a new roof and the salesman was brilliant and the pitch was great. Hence why we purchased a new roof from Lomond. We were promised a quick efficient replacement and plenty of after care, which was not the case.
We were told the scaffolding will be up for 8 days, it was up for 22 days.
We were told we would get progress pictures, we got one from a phone when the roof was done.
We were told the survey of the roof would be thorough and everything would be checked out. The surveyor asked us the colour of tile and guttering we wanted, then left.
We were told work was to start on a Monday, we had scaffolding up since the Thursday prior. Work didn't start to Thursday due to supplies not being delivered.
We were told roof would take 2 days by installers, by Friday they would stay late to finish the work. They packed up at 3pm and said they would be there to 10pm if they finished that day and they wouldn't be back to the Monday.
We paid for both sides of the house guttering to be replaced, only one side was replaced and then were told we got a "free" fascia, so we weren't getting the other gutter replaced by the install manager. Two phone calls later to get other side replaced.
The old roof was skipped, and a pile was left beside the skip that took 2 weeks to get picked up after eight phone calls to Lomond to get it resolved.
The inside of the roof was covered in cut-offs, nails and old slate from the previous roof which needed tided up and binned. The vent tiles were installed, and the boards were smashed into to install them leaving a poor-quality finish.
I will give the install lot a small bonus, they destroyed one of my patio stairs tiles by dropping a roof tile on it and replaced it with a vague look alike. They then broke the cover to my outdoor plug cover which I had to repair. Then I noticed five other tiles heavily cracked from them throwing old roof tiles off onto the patio.
New gutters have leaked since install and after three weeks of harassing Lomond by phone no one came out to repair them. I got fed up of hearing someone will call you back within an hour to not getting a call. I have raised a section 75 with Barclays due to Lomond doing nothing to fix the gutters and after two months Barclays have done nothing. So fat load of nothing and horrible customer support.
All in all, sold gold and got lead at best. Roof is secure and watertight, seemingly, but I would not recommend Lomond if asked. Fat waste of time and money really wish I had gone elsewhere.
To the reply for this review is also is the fastest someone from the company tried to get in touch with me. Between 20 phone calls and months of waiting a negative review is the only thing they will respond to.

We had Chris round as our sales rep for a 2hr visit They insisted that husband and wife be present or they wouldn’t do a quote . The sales presentation took place in our back garden patio as I was not prepared to allow Chris in our home due to restrictions . It’s a long sales pitch and also try to sell finance along with it . Lomond repeatedly remind you they are high end of the market using quality materials and highly qualified workers . As we where looking for a quote on new gutters I felt the time and presentation was excessive . chris made a couple of phone calls to his manager during his presentation in order to qualify us as a show house and to discuss discounts. There Tactic seems to be to get a deal done on the spot and seemed quite prerpared to negotiate down from there 1st quote to get the sale . In the end we where not in a position to buy and certainly not prepared to take up there finance option . Chris was a good lad but my overall impression of lomond was that I did not enjoy there sales technique . I would probably go with a middle end local builder

Had an appointment with Niamh regarding rough cast . She explained everything to me so well , answered all my questions professionally. Left me with very positive thoughts about that company. Really worth a trust in my opinion.
Aggressive sales pitch BEWARE!!!
Aggressive sales pitch - BEWARE!!!!!
Salesman initially tried to enter our household against Covid restrictions, however was then directed into the garden. (This does not count towards my rating at all but should be known as poor practice given the current pandemic) throughout his pitch asked several times if he could have access to the loft repeatedly advised no.
2hrs later still no quote but had explained their superior quality compared to other companies and took a walk along the street to show me a house currently having its roof done saying this is the materials we would use superior to what you would get from council etc - mistake on his part is that they are new council and housing homes being built not private and obviously using his far superior materials that only his company guarantee 🤔
After all the polava finally got a quote of £11000+ for Roughcast and £12000+ for a roof. Utterly gobsmacked I advised him we would not meet in the middle on a price as ranging from cheapest on the market to dearest my Roughcast would be £3000-£5000 and my roof £4500-£9000.
Then starts the further phone calls to the manager, who missed that call. Asked the salesman to leave because over 2hrs by this point, missed my kids bedtime routine and being 9mo this pregnant was tired. He advised me to go sit inside while he got manager on the phone (this already happened several times) I then said no I would like you to leave now and happy to get a phone call in the morning with a realistic quote but would not continue conversations that night. Needless to say no further phone call arrived because they would not get their astronomical payment from us.
From a non tradesman he thinks my roof has 1yr left for sure so definitely needs done- had a roofer out, turns out my roof totally water tight and aesthetically could have a clean but structurally sound.
I have no doubt they will be secretly filmed for a documentary at one point for their practice, it’s so poor and forceful and ticks every box of scamming people into spending 5X’s the £££ they would elsewhere with a good honest local business.
Avoid at all costs
Very happy
Very happy with the quality and appearance of the roughcast. It is sold like double glazing (salesman, who then goes through the rigmarole of phoning his boss to authorise the 'special offer') but their product with its unusual finish is not available elsewhere so it is worth getting.
