Overall I rate McGill’s 3 stars as there are many polite bus drivers & the x23 service I usually use is on time besides being too early on a few occasions. However I have a complaint about one... See more

Exceptionally poor customer service and reliability
I have been attempting to resolve ongoing reliability issues with Service 17 directly with McGill’s Buses in Dundee and have been left extremely disappointed, both with the service itself and with the company’s approach to customer concerns.
In written correspondence, I was informed that the service operates “on time exactly 50% of the time,” with delays typically averaging 1–5 minutes, and that this level of variance is considered acceptable.
As a regular, fare-paying passenger, I find it extraordinary that a service being late half of the time is presented as satisfactory performance.
The issue is not isolated traffic disruption; it is persistent unreliability during peak travel times, when commuters rely on the service most.
Even more concerning is the refund policy, which applies only if the last bus of the day fails to operate. In other words, regular peak-time commuters experiencing repeated disruption are effectively excluded from any form of redress.
Attempts to escalate the complaint have been met with repetition of policy explanations and, most recently, silence.
Public transport users understand that occasional delays happen. What is far more frustrating is a company framing 50% punctuality as acceptable while dismissing the cumulative impact on passengers.
A service cannot reasonably describe itself as reliable if it is late half of the time.
I would not recommended them to anyone.
Always late and frequently change…
Always late and frequently change departure details and don't offer refunds. Thieves.
Robert Wade is the best bus driver
Robert Wade is the best bus driver. You should give him a raise for sure. He always makes sure to chat with you and makes your day feel even better.
Awful drivers
Awful drivers, speeding, red light jumping, not on time, no customer service relationship building they cant park correctly, like seriously mcgills drivers are parking diagonal instead of pulling in and parking horizontaly. What baffles me is the police just drive past them. Shocking service.
54 Bus Timetables
While the 54 normally runs two busses, service is frequently cut down to one bus without any announcement. This leads to every other service simply not appearing without being as marked as cancelled, leaving every journey a gamble.
driver ignorance
Purely some driver ignorance lets this company down ….passengers speak to driver and nothing in return might as well be an automated bus ☹️

I was driving in Glasgow when a mcgills bus kept getting too close to back of my car and the when I found a spot to park as I was reversing in the diver nosed his bus to the back of my car and he refused to back of then gave insults I am a pcv cat d driver myself and this sort of bullying on the road is totally unacceptable he needs his licence revoked by the traffic commissioner
Such a disgusting service
Such a disgusting service. Some time they departed before 10 min and left how can pelople manage their time table and transport. Today’s incident driver close door in front of my face why they behave like this . Even though it’s an expensive service but dont give respect and service to customers such a worst service I
ever seen in Glasgow . No recommend Mc Gills buses
Ghost buses and fantasy live tracking.
Just started using the service again after sticking to the trains for a while and had the joy of waiting on one of their ghost buses.
I’m standing at the stop several minutes before it’s due. I check the app, my bus is live tracked as 7 minutes away.
And I wait. And I wait. Another service which is not mine but due after comes by. Check the app and the bus has vanished.
I check the app for stops up some way ahead of me towards my destination and apparently my bus is live tracked as being a few minutes away from them which is an amazing feat as it’s never come past me.
I give up and walk to a stop where I can join up with another service. The bus in question should do a loop and come back around to pass me in the other direction by this time but I never see it. So I don’t know what exactly is being live tracked but I can only think it must be a bus from Harry bloody Potter that can do its route above head height out of range of all those pesky passengers.
And this is why I took to using the train and why I’ll go back to it.
Absolutely Appalling Service – Unsafe, Intimidating, and Completely Unprofessional
This was one of the most distressing and unacceptable public-transport experiences I have ever had.
To start with, the driver sped off before either of my elderly parents had even managed to sit down. This was was abrupt, careless, and showed a complete disregard for passenger safety. If this ever happens again and one of them is injured, I will not hesitate to take legal action. Passengers should not have to fear for their wellbeing the moment they board a bus. If this company's excuse for this madness is that they have a timetable to adhere to, then I simply do not CARE for this pathetic attempt at an explanation, and GOD FORBID we end up in a legal battle, NO ONE will respect this appalling excuse for physically injuring innocent people.
The driver’s attitude was equally appalling. When I boarded and politely explained that I had a train ticket (as ScotRail had instructed me to do due to a signalling failure), he responded in a patronising, dismissive way, telling me to “slow down” and then glaring at me as though I had done something wrong. It seems that if you aren’t buying a ticket directly on the bus, you are treated with contempt. His behaviour felt targeted, aggressive, deeply intimidating, and utterly disproportionate to the situation.
After reading the many other scathing reviews online, it’s clear that I am far from alone. This kind of behaviour appears to be a pattern across McGill’s drivers, and at this rate, it seems only a matter of time before the company collapses under the weight of its own customer complaints.
The atmosphere on board was also unacceptable. At 1pm on a Thursday, passengers were openly drinking cans of Stella. The overall experience felt chaotic, unpleasant, and, quite honestly, not even fit for a third-world nation, never mind a public transport service operating in Scotland, where this man's attitude is completely out of place and unwelcome.
Between the unsafe driving, the hostility, and the complete lack of professional standards, McGill’s has lost my trust entirely. I would genuinely rather walk 1,000 miles than ever step onto one of their buses again.
Avoid at all costs.
In general quite a nice experience
McGills bus service has been cancelled absolute breath of fresh air since I began to use them around November 2024.
Moved out to Renfrew town centre so U frequent them to get in and out of Paisley town centre, Braehead Shopping Centre and further to Glasgow City centre.
I find the service to be frequent and on time. In fact, often enough, I find them to be remarkably so.
I also find the drivers to be in general quite personable and rather friendly.
Damp Bus
Today i got the 54 home and it was riddled with damp as the paint was acually peeling off the smell was horrendous and when asked the driver he tried to say it was the engine. Damp can cause serious health issues especilly for those who have bad asthma. Bus needs a serious update absolutly shocking.
Not impressed
Just to thank the driver of the no 23 who sped by me in the way to erskine when I was standing holding out my hand at broomlea cres inchinnan at 20.50 ,haven't had too much exercise recently and thankfully it wasn't raining so the 20 minute walk was probably useful, 😀

Terrible bus service
Standing at the bus stop,, clearly wanting to catch the 51 bus, with the bus driver clearly seeing me, just decided to drive right past regardless.this isn't the first time this has happened and probably won't be the last.
