So far, everything about these robots has been pretty awesome! My 10 year old is now convinced that writing robot code is better than video games. Because, he says, it's like a puzzle game (and... See more

Meet Edison! Edison is a programmable robot designed to be a complete STEM teaching resource for coding and robotics education for students from 4 to 16 years of age. Edison empowers students to become not just coders, but inventors, problem solvers and creative thinkers. More than a robot, Edison’s sensors and expandable build system open up pathways for learning across maths, science, critical thinking, engineering, design thinking and more. Edison robots are an innovation by Microbric. Head to www.microbric.com to see all our educational products!
Stuck with faulty product which interface to program it does not work

Great technical support to try to troubleshoot problems - however, being in the US and having support in Australia made it tough to get quick turn-around on questions that were not included in your extensive FAQs. The support team provided many different things to try and ALWAYS returned useful answers to my inquiries. Unfortunately, I was never able to get the classroom Kindle Fire HD 10 tablets to program Edison, so I ended up purchasing several refurbished Chromebooks and they worked just fine to program Edison. That was probably the biggest issue I had was trying to figure out how to use the Kindle to program, then finally giving that up, and then spending more money to get a Chromebook platform that would work.
The students have truly enjoyed learning with Edison using the Bar Codes and the Scratch programs thus far. They have also enjoyed building projects such as EdTank and EdDigger with the EdCreate Kits - I did hear from a few students, especially on the EdTank project, that the EdCreate parts were not making solid connections and would fall off when operating the "cannon." I figured that the parts are new and as they get worked with more frequently, they will snap together and attach more firmly.
I appreciate the very affordable prices for the Edison robots & EdCreate kits - I was able to purchase a whole classroom set - enough for 24 students working in pairs - on a pretty limited budget. I love that all the programming is online and easily to access - students can work directly on their computers to build and to write & download programs to Edison - following through the student curriculum books online. There is a part of me that hopes for an App to be released that will allow students to program Edison via bluetooth, but maybe that could be a future upgrade. Overall, Edison has been a wonderful learning experience for my students this semester!

I have purchased around 40 Edison's over the years which I use in my Robotics sessions with Primary School children. They are great to use and the students really enjoy learning with them.

The folks were very quick with responses and had great sets of instructions to follow to check the edisons. Very happy with the service and the actual product. Will continue to use both as part of my robotics curriculum.

The new data cables that were designed for the Dell 3100 Chromebook work as advertised. We had a lot of issues with the previous cable, but the new (orange) cable works great!

Overall, great experience. I ordered from Canada because I could not get the skids in Canada. This meant that I incurred a high shipping cost to product cost ratio, but shipping was quick. I would love it if there was a place to order the skids in Canada to save on international shipping.

PROS: My 4th and 5th grade students love the Edison robots. They are sturdy and responsive and the students get so excited making them move and sing. The robots are durable and can withstand being dropped occasionally. The manufacturing standards are high and interchangeable parts work smoothly. The EdCreate Pack provides a lot of opportunities for building extensions onto the robots. The curriculum material is well thought out and is very helpful to instructors. The built-in barcode programs provide instant accessibility and are a fun way to get students started. The ability to use block programming, Scratch and Python gives a wide range of methods to address students at varying coding proficiencies. The robots have extremely low ground clearance so ramps and obstacle courses must be finely tuned to provide a smooth surface, which keeps the engineering bar high in my classes.
I love the price and realize most of the other suggestions I have (more motors!) would increase the cost, so perhaps affordability is the better option. I have received great support with my orders from Microbric and have had a blast teaching with these little robots.
CONS: I do have minor complaints. Perhaps there is need for the bottom skid to be made of clear plastic, but making the tiniest removable part also invisible is not a good choice. I would request it be made in the brightest color possible. Thank goodness for the 20 pack of replacement skids. Also, it would be nice if the battery door were hinged onto the robot (so one can't lose it) and opened and closed easily and without breaking fingernails. Of a little more concern, the remote control driving is very clunky and frustrates students. I believe we are able to code more precision into the remote control turns, which are the biggest source of frustration, but I haven't had time to look into that yet. My students request that the robot be given a greater range of notes so they can (painstakingly) program in more of their favorite songs.

The robots worked great for my 6th graders. The lessond were fun for them and very well written. The models themselves were quite durable. I had only one robot break a wheel and I was able to find replacement parts. Thank you for making such a fun educational product!

My class has loved using the Edison robots! They have been very creative with their programming and I look forward to continuing the course in the fall.

I love Edison robots! I use them with my high school students of all levels and we take them with us to help elementary students as well. I've done other events with them too. I love how they introduce those new to robots about computational thinking and more important, sensors. You can show students how sensors and robots are everywhere and have them work on projects with contraints that real world robots operate within.

I purchased two Edison robots to support the home schooling for my 13 year old grandson. The initial intent was for these robots to be used in a small home schooling cooperative. The cooperative has not resumed having meetings for this school year. My grandson has utilized all of the bar code applications for the robot.. Our next step is to begin working with Edy blocks..

Edison is a nice educational robot, however my children lost interest fairly quickly after only having so many things that can be done. I think more articulation or sensors would be nice

I have 2 Edison and the construction pack. I don't feel that the pieces have enough "clutch power" meaning the bricks come off very easily and this makes it very frustrating to complete the project.

Excellent robot!
Just the motor could be a little stronger!
But othewise it‘s a fantastic little toy.
Our kids in school love it. There are so many things you can construct with it and in combination with Lego and the construction set and the scratch surface the possibilities are just limitless.
Best robot by far in comparison with others. Best return of investment!!
