Would be great to have an offline till to program for kids

We have used Edison for three years. The first two years were with a 2nd grade class and this year, we have an after school STEAM Club that meets every Tuesday from 3:30 – 5:00. There are 27 students in the Club from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We have 14 Edison robots. Each robot has a scientist’s name. We have seven women scientists, and seven men scientists. There is a timeline on the wall of all the scientist robots. Just last club, one student said to me, I had the oldest scientist robot last time and this time I picked the youngest. Since the beginning of our first club meeting, on September 17, we have used the Edison ”scientist” robots in the following activities:
• Introduced the robots using the barcodes.
• Students built an obstacle course and programmed Edison using EdScratch.
• Students engineered how to attach a pen to Edison and programmed Edison to draw.
• Students programmed Edison to play a song and dance.
The students are always excited to use Edison and state that the robot is easy to program. Here are two suggestions that the students would like to be added:
1. They have mentioned that they wish the Edcomm cable was longer. We use the school’s computer lab for the Club and most of the audio plug in the front of the computer does not work so they have to plug the cable into the rear. It’s difficult to maneuver around with the short cable.
2. When the students were using the sound blocks in EdScratch they wanted a rest note and there are no rest blocks.
Thank you so much for having an affordable, each to use, and very adaptable to all subjects and interests robot.

Edison is a very versatile robot that can be programmed using three different methods. We primarily use Edscratch and the barcodes with Grade 5 and 6 students with great success. Students learn to code while integrating robotics and the principles of STEAM. Areas of improvement for the Edison would be to have a reset that would remove all the codes. This is an issue with remote codes as Edison retains the codes even after it has been re-coded with another bar code. I also find the re-calibration has to occur often so that the Edison runs "true." Given the price point and versatility, Edison is a great robot to help learn coding while incorporating STEAM principles.

Love this product - I give 4 stars for the following reasons:
- I haven’t fully explored all the functionality (ie coding ) - user issue (ie me) and I should not fault the makers
- I had quite a few problems initially and realized late that batteries were the problem. Fresh batteries always resolved my issues. Again user issue but I think it may make sense to recommend rechargeable a (because they drain quickly when working with groups and you don’t have a battery life indicator)
- I find children really love to ‘personify’ the robot so giving it options like facial features as an add-on accessory would go very far with an American audience, I believe - yes, I use LEGOs to do this but it may be something to consider for your R&D team
All in all - an incredible and very powerful (and very affordable) robot that can be used to teach many age groups. Also great for tinkering. I personally need to devote more time to exploiting the options but I think it is so cool to show kids how this robot relates to those found in many distribution and sorting centers - they even look alike! Thank you for helping bring more STEM to more kids with Edison robots!!

Awesome product for educators to use in their classrooms! Three levels of programming, cost effective, and great customer service!

After working with Meet Edison and their robots for several years, I can’t say enough good things about both their products and their customer service. As a Tech Ed teacher of 12-14 year old students, I find their robots to be high quality, spectacularly versatile, and extremely durable. My students have put their ‘bots through their paces and I continue to be amazed by what they are capable of teaching my students.
Because I teach a wide range of ability levels (never worked with robots before to having built and programmed a variety of platforms), I sometimes struggle finding equipment that reaches all of my students. Meet Edison’s robots allow my newbies the quickly gain confidence, moving from bar codes to block-based programming as they explore the robot’s features. On the other end of the spectrum, my experts are able to acquire new skills in EdPython programming. The best part is that my students can then learn from and teach each other.
LEGO comparability adds an additional level of interest and instruction as my students are able to use their Edison ‘bots as driver motors in engineering new ideas quickly. Besides, it’s just fun to have a pop-up Sumo match that encourages creative thinking and problem solving as my students design LEGO armor and accessories to knock each other’s robots out of the ring!
As for customer service, I have never had encounter that was not completely satisfactory. Meet Edison has supported my classroom endeavors with technical support and lesson plans, and has even replaced equipment despite the fact that some of our ‘bots were outside of the warranty. Their customer service department is responsive and thorough in helping diagnose and resolve any questions we’ve encountered. I would recommend Meet a Edison and their equipment for just about any classroom setting.

Edison Robots are a great learning tool for getting into programming and robotics. Compared to other educational robots, you get a lot for the price you pay, making it an affordable option for many people.
I've used the robots with Year 2 students through to seniors and it's good to see how quickly people can engage with them without too much instruction.
There are multiple ways to program the robots which cater for a range of ages from simple barcode scanning, block/scratch-style interfaces and Python. There are also plenty of resources to get started with on the Meet Edison website which can tie in easily with school curriculum.
The LEGO system compatibility is excellent. With the ability to remove the wheels and connect standard LEGO Technic or System parts, it opens up a world of customisation using the two motors and sensors alongside LEGO creations.
To really explore some of the features, I recommend purchasing at least two units as they can communicate with each other.

We purchased two Edison robots for our grandchildren this year and were highly impressed at its capabilities. A really great product at an even better price!
Would recommend for all children.
