Considering 29 reviews, reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers consistently praise the exceptional craftsmanship and extremely high standard of work performed on various outdoor gear like jackets and backpacks. People are especially pleased with how carefully zippers, patches, and custom clothing alterations are handled to make worn items look completely brand new. Brilliant Service

Easy to do business with! Had a new zip replaced on my sons waterproof jacket, late last year, after it came away from the jacket. It was worn during the winter months with no issues, when he came to wear it this year after the summer the zip wouldn't stay fastened. Contacted SMG, who provided a Freepost address to send the jacket back to them for repair under warranty! Sent and repaired and back in our hands all in under a week!

Outstanding Service

I contacted several suppliers for quotes for the cleaning and refurbishment of my 40 year old down sleeping bag. I selected Scottish Mountain Gear as their quote was prompt, reasonable and realistic.
I have just received my bag back and am delighted with the results. It looks like new and lofts like a new bag too.
Well done to Rona and the team for such a good service.

Eastpak Warranty - they’ll deny anything

Sent an Eastpak bag to them for warranty repair on the zip slider. Proceeded to deny warranty claiming the zipper tape was damaged - despite almost no damage being visible in the photos they sent.

Clearly a company solely focused on taking your money rather than providing the service and warranty Eastpak offers on sale of the bag. Not nice people.

Excellent top quality service

I have to say reviewers here seem incredibly ‘glass half empty’ And I wonder if they’re talking about the same company.
I used Scottish mountain gear repair service to rescue my much loved Jack wolfskin waterproof.
Prompt service, good pricing and excellent quality sums up my experience.
In an increasingly wasteful throwaway world it’s great to be able to extend the life of quality gear. £54 including shipping to install a new zip in a £200 jacket to give it a new lease of life is good value in my book. Communication is prompt and accurate and everything happened exactly as they said it would , thoroughly recommended. Thank you to Rona and the Scottish mountain gear team for such great service

Very poor service

My sleeping bag took the best part of 2 months to be cleaned. Unless you can wait an eternity for items to be returned and enjoy making multiple calls and emails chasing them up I would give this company a very wide berth.

A very frustrating company to deal with.

Above and Beyond!

I have had amazing customer service experience with Scottish Mountain Gear, and the repair service, with less than a month before I head off on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, my racing foulies required significant alterations, - A big thankyou , I know you already had in place a very high workload, I am forever grateful that I can now Ocean Race safely in the knowing my kit now fits me.

Refusing to abide by warranty

I have a valid lifetime warranty for a suitcase which clearly states that it will be repaired free of charge (and there are no conditions attached to that warranty). I was told to post the suitcase to this company for repair and incurred the expense of doing so. I have so far been without my suitcase for over 4 weeks and have finally heard back from them with a invoice which they are expecting me to pay. They are now trying to point towards terms and conditions on their website (which did not apply at the time my case was purchased) to claim that I need to pay for the repair. I will now be commencing legal action more as a point of principle than anything to hopefully help prevent this situation occurring for others

your repairs may not last very long.

Had my Goretex jackets seams done about 3 years ago.Thought they would be done thoroughly and last for quite a few years. No, they have all come undone again. So I have my jacket for at least 20 years and no , presumably methods have improved you would have thought but no they are all undone. Not a good and I cannot recommend.

North Face wash & refill

I sent in a vintage North Face jacket, very special to me as it’s a rare piece. Needed a good wash and refill! They completed a full assessment and sent my item back looking practically brand new, in better condition than I’d even bought it! Will be using again, so pleased with the result.

Can't repair a zip on a jacket. Poor Customer Service

I have a waterproof jacket where the zip had come off and needed a new one to be fitted. Prior to sending in, I washed my jacket and some of the tapering has come away on the jacket.

Scottish Mountain Gear said they couldn't repair the zip because of the condition of the fabric and this may damage the jacket. I asked many times if they could repair the zip regardless and at my own risk- they refused. I am now out of pocket the best part of £10 and I will now go elsewhere to get someone to put a zip on the jacjet.

If you are looking for a jacket repair, you are best going somewhere else. I am all for supporting local businesses but you really need to do more to help your customers.

Maybe I have unrealistic expectations…

Maybe I have unrealistic expectations but when I sent my Jottnar coat in for a small tear repairing and they said they would use a patch over the entire section I assumed the patch would be the same colour?

So £72 and my coat now looks like some of the stuff my gran used to find in jumble sales and to be honest I would have rather just bought a new one!

I sent my 4 year old PHD Hisper 400

I sent my 4 year old PHD Hisper 400 - 1000 series Down sleeping bag to Scottish Mountain Gear to be washed and checked. I had slept in the bag for over 300 nights and it was not feeling as warm as it had. They washed the sleeping bag and it smells a lot better now. They also added some Down which did add 133g to it's weight but you can see it's a lot puffier and warmer now. I'm very very pleased with their service and price they charged. Recommended company, I will use them again.

Outstanding Service

Sent my new Mountain Equipment jacket to have sleeves shortened. I was a bit skeptical of doing this as it's a postal service and wanted to be sure they got the length spot on.

Emailed them and explained the work I wanted done. Within 24 hours I received a response asking a few questions about the jacket and was then given a quote for the work (cost was very reasonable). They did say it could take up to 4 weeks due to how busy they were.

Seems my patience was rewarded because I've just received my jacket back today and the work carried out is outstanding.

This is clearly a very professional company who know what they're doing and I would happily use them again in future. Their communication was also excellent.

In all, it took 3 weeks from me sending my jacket to receiving it back (jacket was returned within 24 hours of making payment for alterations). Personally, I don't think that's bad at all for the level of workmanship carried out.

I would absolutely recommend this company.

Highly professional repair at a good price

This was a tricky job - complete replacement of a sewn-in ground sheet.
Initial enquiries were handled in a friendly way. Price quote seemed very reasonable, although it was not guaranteed until they had seen the tent. So I had to send it at my expense before I knew it could be done and had a firm price. Having said that, they took details on the phone and looked at photos so there was a good degree of certainty.
THIS WAS ALL COMPLETELY REASONABLE.
When they got the tent, they acknowledged receipt quickly. It took a couple of weeks for the repair to be done because this was peak season and they were busy. However, it was then done quickly and sent back to me.
THIS WAS A SUPERB JOB. THE TENT WAS UNUSABLE BEFOREHAND AND NOW IT IS PERFECT. THE PROFESSIONALISM AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL WAS EXCELLENT AND THE PRICE WAS GOOD.

Sent in a tent for a small patch Repair.

Sent in a tent flysheet for a small patch repair.Waited for just over a month with no contact from them before E mailing them for an update. To be fair, they responded very quickly to my enquiry and apologised for the delay. They then went on to advise me that they had carried out a water test on the Flysheet and found it to leak and deemed unsuitable for repair.
Also stated that the sealant on the seams had worn away and was unsatisfactory and the seams were not waterproof.
Absolutely amazed to hear this as I had only just resealed all of the seams prior to sending in the tent!
They also attached an invoice to their E Mail which was for a completely different job and addressed to a person who lived in New Zealand!
They are obviously a very busy Company and appear to have work coming in from all over the World. My repair was very important to myself and I still wanted the repair carrying out but they stated the repair was uneconomical and returned the tent fly to me the very same day.Whatever happened to Customer service and trying to fulfil the Customers needs and requirements?
I would probably go back to them if I wanted to get hold of spares such as poles etc but would never approach them again for tent repairs,
Nearly £20 spent on return postage with no end result.
I have worked in Customer Service for over 35 years and for me this was not a great experience.

Obviously a very busy company which…

Obviously a very busy company which doesn't need to worry about great customer services.

Requested a quote for a repair to a small hole in a Musto Jacket. Was quoted quickly through their online form.

Sent the jacket back to them on 31st of January and waited. After calling 3 times asking for an update they emailed us on the 19th of February with a quote for the repair (presume the previous one was a guess despite uploading images). We paid the quote immediately and here we are on the 7th of March and the repair still hasn't been done.

On calling we keep getting told that its moving up the queue and will be dealt with shortly - not sure how long shortly is? Maybe we'll have the jacket back in time for the summer?!

Would recommend you look elsewhere if you need a prompt and efficient service.
