Joke of a company

I waited until I had moved house before I wrote this review because of the unhinged abusive response I received from Matt. I paid for services up front into Matthew McDaids personal account on the 11th April in preparation for a house sale. This is relevant because you have less rights when paying into a personal account. Also, according to companies house, shining windows was dissolved some time ago - make of that what you will. After payment, like many others, it was impossible to pin Matt down with many cancellations, poor excuses or no shows to our agreed appointments. What made this even more frustrating is you have to be at home for these appointments so a constant re-shuffle of our calendar just added to the frustration (Neither of us WFH full time). This frustration culminated in us giving up and asking Matt to keep the money (Refunds are of course not possible). Matt replied with an abusive and profanity laden reply - "Whatever fella, f*** off and use someone else then. Thanks for the stupid payment towards a service where you acted like a c*ck". Interesting message from someone who likes to reference the malicious communications act. In summary, I paid up front on April 11th and we gave up trying to pin him down on 21st June. If it was a genuine company, they would offer refunds. Shining Windows need your power and your water to complete a simple job and wont work in the rain or if you are not at home - yes I am serious. Avoid and use another firm.

SCAMMER...BEWARE...

Did not complete window cleans paid for upfront. We complained to him after a year of trying to book his service (he gives every excuse he can not to attend). After our complaint he sent abusive and threatening messages and shared our data with outside companies to cause problems. Reported to police for harassment and with Trading Standards who are investigating. Court case pending. As for his positive reviews, he asked to review on first clean to get positive reviews but then did not attend other booked appointments to make him look like he is legit. AVOID.

Worst Service

Cannot be trusted. Constantly postpone appointments and also claim to have cleaned the windows and I come home to see cobwebs attached to it. Avoid!

Prolific con man

No-show and B.S. champion of the world

Refund me for the cleans I've paid for that you are not attending.

Reasonable service on visit 1 and encourages you to leave a good review for discount on a package then mucks you about endlessly trying to get him to attend.

Compulsive liar. Set pattern of behaviour with multiple customers.

Quit the gaslighting Matt

"The Negative Reviewing Culture: Reading Between the Stars.
The internet has empowered consumers like never before. Online review platforms have become a go-to source for everything from picking a restaurant to finding a plumber. But with this power comes a trend: a focus on negative reviews.

This "negative reviewing culture" has a big impact. People are more likely to leave a review after a bad experience than a good one. This can be because negative emotions are stronger motivators, or because people believe a bad review can warn others.

For businesses, this can be a double-edged sword. On the downside, a few negative reviews can seriously hurt a reputation. Potential customers might be scared away by a low star rating, without even considering the positive reviews.

However, negative reviews can also be valuable sources of feedback. If a business can address the issues raised in negative reviews, it can improve its product or service.

So, how can we navigate this culture? Here are some things to keep in mind:

We don't ignore negative reviews, we respond via email to them professionally and have always tried to resolve the issue before a review is left. Sometimes is simply because it rained, or Matt was unwell or perhaps the van broke down, we all have children that have time off school. We live in the same reality and have the same responsibilities as others, we're sorry we can't avoid everyday delays, and we always offer to attend or a customer can easily book an appointment online.

So, take negative reviews with a grain of salt, and we shouldn't be expect to provide refunds due to delays and we could simply attend the next day Consider the context and the reviewer's tone. Look for a balance of reviews. A mix of positive and negative reviews can actually be more trustworthy than all-positive ones.

Be an informed consumer. Don't rely solely on reviews to make decisions. Look for other sources of information as well.
The review culture isn't perfect, but it can be a powerful tool for both consumers and businesses. By understanding its strengths and weaknesses, we can all use it to make better choices and a safer market place."

Please avoid this company

The first service was great no denying that however since then I cannot get them to attend. I must have have 10+ bookings cancelled since December now. I paid upfront for quarterly cleans at a discount, I am strongly regretting that now. I will be looking at finding another window cleaner to fulfil the service and despite asking for a refund they said rebook. Then didn't turn up.

I am doubtful I will see a penny of that back - Trading Standards will be interested in this practice no doubt. The evidence is clear from the other reviews this is a consistent pattern of behaviour. It also ticks the box for fraud by false representation, Trading Standards can choose to prosecute if they wish.

I did discuss a refund with Matthew, he refused stating they do not do refunds. Then bizarrely Matthew stated he did attend my address but the back gate was locked. Well I work from home on the dates he 'attended' He did not turn up and is lying. He is now using this to say I breached contract to avoid a refund. Following this and regardless of how polite I remained with him, said he was referring me to the malicious communication act and I had damaged his health. Another manipulation to avoid the work or refund. Which I see he has used before looking at other reviews.

I would suggest anyone else having issues with this company to also report the matter to Trading Standards to assist with their investigation. His modus operandi is to have you pay up front by bank transfer so you cannot claim an indemnity payment when he fails to fulfil the service. Because once paid the bank cannot refund due to policy. If it is direct debit you are covered I believe.

* Edit after the below reply - looks like an AI assisted response speckled with Matthews token passive aggressive undertones. I understand Shining Windows has had more issues which have been posted on social media. Similar experience to my own where Shining Windows have taken their money and not fulfilled service. Again the matter has been sent to Trading Standards for their review. He has taken off his previous vile responses on 1 star reviews and placed this reply on them all.
