I bought a used car from Sinclair Volkswagen. Cardiff. It helped that they had a great car at the price I wanted to pay and gave me a good deal on my old car. However, there is more to it than that. They were the first dealership I visited. They were helpful without being pushy. We had a chat about what I needed and wanted from the car. The salesperson was friendly - showed me the cars they had, discussed the features, mileage etc. Thought I'd better look at other cars though so went to other dealerships that same day. What a difference! There was the "have a look around and come find me when you see something you like..." which given the amount of cars they had was not helpful. Another useless selling approach was to listen to my budget and then show me cars that were £4000 above that. Then there was my personal favourite - "are you looking to do a deal today because if you are that's great as we are 2 deals down on our monthly target and it's the end of the month on Monday". I couldn't work out how that was my problem. That same dealership also offered me much less on my old car than Sinclair did. I rushed back to Sinclair to say I wanted the car I'd originally seen. There was excellent communication between agreeing the sale and when I collected the car a few days later.

I have recently purchased a VW Tiguan Elegance from Sinclair VW in Cardiff, assisted by Alex from the sales office. My decision to buy from a reputable dealership was driven by the expectation that the vehicle would be meticulously inspected by trusted experts—especially important given my limited knowledge about cars.

Trusting the dealership's reputation, I conducted only a basic visual inspection and a brief test drive. However, several issues emerged after the purchase:

1. Windscreen Cracks: Numerous small cracks on the windscreen became visible only under specific lighting conditions, such as bright sunlight from certain angles, which were not noticeable during the test drive.
2. Steering Wheel Fault: The steering wheel was faulty, accompanied by a repetitive alarm on the dashboard. This issue eventually required a replacement. In hindsight, this fault was present during the test drive, though I initially thought it might have been due to my unfamiliarity with the vehicle. It is concerning that such an issue existed prior to my test drive, suggesting awareness of the fault within the dealership.
3. Key Malfunction: One of the car keys frequently malfunctioned, leaving me unable to lock the car on several occasions. I had noticed this issue during the test drive and mentioned it to Alex, who assured me it was merely a battery issue. Unfortunately, the problem persisted even after two battery replacement.
4. Engine Compartment Condition: Upon closer inspection, I discovered the area under the bonnet was filled with mud and dirt, indicating it had not been properly cleaned or inspected.
5. Additional Minor Issues: Various other minor issues surfaced, necessitating a return to the service centre within just a month of ownership.

Although the car warranty covered these repairs, I did not anticipate needing to return to the dealership so soon and so frequently. This experience has been disappointing, particularly considering the high standards I expected from such a well-known company.

It is surprising that someone with extensive experience in this industry would not be aware of the car’s faults before it was sold to me. The response will be that the car had passed the checks. It seems that losing our money and time is not a concern for this company, which is likely why their review ratings are so low on google.

The service from Sinclair VW Cardiff was excellent and deserving of 5 stars. However the manual that comes with the car is appalling. No reference to buttons switches and extras of the model I purchased. The salesman explained as much as I could take when I picked up the car but very little to refer to after. I eventually found some info on the internet. Full manual should be provided by VW.

This time it was better again From the lovely Lady manning the phones and organising the customers to the very friendly car salesmen… I need to say that I’m suffering the recent loss of my Wonderful Wife ..and was worried about organising and all that goes with buying a new car. I met Babs Ali who helped me and made my experience in buying a new car so good . Babs knowing my circumstances went way above to help in every way. The coffee was good too!
