Planned Obsolescence and Poor Customer Service
I purchased a Mighty in 2015, to its credit it still works. However, in hindsight I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew then what i know now. S&B are a frustrating company, they provide a limited warranty for a short time, after which they refuse to repair their products even when a customer is happy to pay. Instead, they will inform you that the only option is to purchase a new unit for the reduced cost of €248! They won't provide replacement parts, specifically the housing for the Mighty which is brittle and breaks over time. Also, the batteries inside of the unit are soldered on with tabs, meaning they can't be easily replaced even though they are standard 18650s (of average quality I would add), and S&B will not replace them outside of the warranty period. An 18650 has an average lifespan of ~300-500 charge cycles, so I am taking a risk in continuing to use my Mighty. On the whole, I feel that S&B don't stand behind their products and their customer support is abysmal. It seems that they are engineering planned obsolescence into their products, and contributing to the global e-waste crisis.
