Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, finding it unresponsive, unhelpful, and difficult to reach. A major point of contention was the refund process, with numerous people reporting extensive delays, unfulfilled promises, and even being charged for returned items or having refunds withheld. Some people were dissatisfied with the product quality, citing issues like poor stitching, cheap fabric, and items not matching descriptions or shrinking after washing. Conversely, a few other people also felt that the quality of some products was good, with some items being described as the finest or best they had ever worn, fitting beautifully and lasting well.

Extremely poor

Extremely poor, slow and unresponsive. When I finally did receive my order-in this case- Deep Indigo Draw String Pants-after one wearing- the draw string loop hole at the waist tore out indicating poor workmanship. These are an expensive pair of leisure pants. The response of the customer service team was that they could not replace the item as they were out of stock and that if I wanted to return the item at my own expense they would issue a refund. I explained that a store credit would be welcome as the customer should not have to incur the time and expense of returning defective merchandise. I communicated numerous times with them requesting store credit to apply toward other items and they refused to respond.

This is the first time that I have had an online retail business behave this irresponsibly and unprofessionally.

Worst fitting pants ever

Worst fitting pants ever.
lots of extra material around the hips and 32" inseam measured at 30.5". They charge $8.50 to return items even though they are wrong size. Took about half an hour on the phone to get the return authorized and then they cut me off while transferring me for the second time.
Great looking catalog, pity about the product and customer service.

Their Zephyr pants are really…

Their Zephyr pants are really comfortable....when you can get them. Last time I tried the color wasn't available. And they got me, too, with that re-stocking fee for a shirt I returned (too narrow and nothing larger due to season). In looking at the reviews, pricing and now some questionable 'fees', what has happened to Territory Ahead? Deep Sea Indigo Baja Hoodie....for $139 and ships end of May???? For that I can drive to Ensenada, have fish tacos and a beer and come home with 3 authentic hoodies. Sorry.

The staff in their customer service…

The staff in their customer service department are always rude, they make it sound like you're bothering them when you call. I have attempted to exchange items more than once and was not updated on the progress only find out the item I was exchanging it for was not in stock. They charge a premium price for the product and offer inferior service.

I was a customer for 20 years or more

I was a customer for 20 years or more. Never again. I have been waiting for a pair of pants I ordered for 6 months. They told me 15 days ago they were finely shipping them. So far no show and no communication from them. They don't answer my emails and I've spent hours in total on hold on the phone.

Crappy Return/Customer Service (Am I being ripped off?)

I returned an item that was too large a size and was told it was seasonal so could not be exchanged for a smaller size. They would give me a refund. One month after they received the item back no word from them. I waited another three weeks before calling and was told, again, to expect a refund and an email confirming that. Ten days later no refund, no email.
The stuff is not inexpensive and if I am going to pay "artisanal" prices I need competent customer service.
Never again

UP-DATE: After repeated emailing they did finally refund partial payment. They kept a "re-stocking fee." Because, of course, the customer should pay for them to put the thing back on the shelf.

Returned items due to horrible quality…still no refund

Returned items due to horrible quality in January 2021. Items were received by Territory Ahead 1/14/21. We called 1/27 to find out the status of our refund and were told it would take "a couple months" because they were doing inventory. When pressed we got them to say they'd process the refund within 7-10 days. It's now past 10 days and we have not received a refund. They've also failed to respond to our BBB complaint. This morning I contacted the MA Attorney General's office and filed a complaint. This company is 100% SCAM.

Returned a $160 dollar pair of shoes I…

Returned a $160 dollar pair of shoes I ordered for my husband for Christmas because they ran very narrow. And how would a consumer know that unless they tried them. I had to call twice to find out where my refund was. Took over a month. Refund finally came but it was not the full amount. I called and was told not only do they not reimburse for the $18 shipping I paid them but they subtracted for a "restocking fee" for returning the item! I was unaware of this fine print robbery and will never order from them again. Never experienced a partial refund from any other retailer ever.

POOR SERVICE

Unfortunately I have to agree with prior reviewers that rated the service as Bad/Poor. I recently placed a gift order for a family member consisting of two coordinated items. I received an email notice that one item shipped five days after notice that Territory Ahead had received my order. Concerned about the second item, I followed the Territory's online catalog and my email inbox; I noticed that the second (unshipped) item had been removed from the online listing of available items. Seven days after their acknowledge receipt of my order (Their notice said that Priority orders are shipped within 4-7 days) I sent an email asking when my second ordered item would ship. Within 24 hours (8 days after their receipt of my order) I did receive an email stating the item was no longer available and they could not give me a date for future availability. It appears to me that the burden of monitoring the status of an order lies with the customer, not with the Territory's purchasing/shipping departments. BEWARE!!!

Buyer Beware

Under new ownership again, this formerly great company is simply a racket now. Just look at the reviews. I wish I had, but I was unsuspecting as a now former decades-long customer. I was charged $13.50 shipping to get a look at a defective pair of pants and charged $8.95 to return them, resulting in a partial "refund." (Interestingly, included in the original shipment was a J. Peterman catalog, but not a return mailing label. They had to email that.) My first call to “Customer Service” to address this problem was dropped after 10+ minutes on hold. In a second call of 15+ minutes, mostly waiting, they were unwilling to waive any of these shipping costs. Unacceptable and never again. Good riddance. SHAME on new owner JP Outfitters ( J. Peterman). Elaine, Help!

I am appalled at the shipping costs for these clothes. The website says the price is $10.99 for basic ground shipping shipping but the shirt I wanted to order required $16.99 shipping. Then I looked at the website and it says you also have to pay shipping to return it. I'm not ordering anything from Territory Ahead.

Company Has Gone Downhill

Like everyone else here, I used to love this store but no more. I can no longer buy pants from them because they have discontinued any waist size larger than 42. But here's the big problem: I ordered a face mask from them in a pattern called Java Stripe. But when I received it, even though the invoice says Java Stripe the actual mask is a different pattern entirely. Worse yet, the straps aren't adjustable and are so small that it barely fits onto my 7 1/8 sized head. When I put the mask on, the first time I inhaled it completely collapsed around my mouth and blocked my breathing. On close examination I realized that the inner face of the fabric is coated with some kind of plastic-like material that doesn't let much air through. And the topper is that the nose portion contains the stiffest wire you can imagine, which is actually painful on the bridge of your nose. And compounding the strangeness, the return address on the package was not Territory Ahead but "The J. Peterman Co." with an address in Blue Ash Ohio. Waiting for a response to my e-mail to them but not holding my breath.

Disappointed

I placed an order for a hoodie on 9/12/20. After not hearing from them for some time I called them on 9/24, and was told my product was on backorder and expected at their facility by 9/30. I was also told it would ship to me the week of 10/5. I just got off the phone with them again, and was told the product is now on backorder until late January 2021. I cancelled my order and will not do business with them again.

Don't bother unless you like terrible service

I have purchased from The Territory Ahead for years and loved the quality and style. Since the company was purchased it has all gone downhill. On my last order they keep telling me that the items are going out today but after 2 weeks of that answer I no longer believe them. They will not let me cancel the order but if I ever receive the products they are being returned. Don't bother with The Terrible Territory Ahead!

Waiting for my money but think it’s fraud

I too have been a customer of TA for decades. I ordered a Father’s Day shirt for my husband the first week of May. I have called twice and each time they lead me on to think my shirt is on the way. I get an email apologizing for the confusion on my order. It will not be coming. The TA has claimed my money for $79.00 for 2 weeks now. This is now fraud. Don’t order from this company

I had been a customer of Territory for over two decades…

I had been a customer of Territory Ahead for over two decades and they had some great clothes, shirts in particular. then the selections started looking pretty strange, quality was visibly slipping. Then this past fall/winter when they said all purchases final, no exchanges, no returns, I figured that they are on their way out the door, take the money and run. Too bad they F/U'd what had been one of my favorite companies.
