We recently used West Cornwall Removals…

We recently used West Cornwall Removals for our house move from Cornwall to Portugal. All I can say is that Viv and his team are amazing. Due to our house in Portugal not being ready we had to defer our ferry sailing 3 times, but this was not a problem for Viv... He was so flexible and nothing was a problem for him. Eventually we got on the ferry and the move was seamless. The guys attention to detail and respect for our belongings was absolutely perfect and we can't thank them enough for making what is usually a stressfull time, totally stress free...... Thanks again to Viv and the guys, and if you're ever in the area feel free to pop in for a coffee / beer.

Handled a complicated long distance move perfectly. Thanks!

These guys were just great. They moved us from Surrey to a tiny village near Lostwithiel, Cornwall. Arrived on time the night before the big move, were amazingly hard working, friendly, cheerful, resourceful and we would definitely recommend them without hesitation. They even accommodated our last minute delays due to the solicitors. Fantastic job, many grateful thanks for making a complicated move easier and even rather jolly!

I would not even wish to give one star…

I would not even wish to give one star but have no choice. In a nutshell - terrible; we made a huge, huge mistake when choosing such a bad removal company to move us from one part of Cornwall to the other and will be taking action in the new year, upon advice of the police. Having been charged and paid in advance, during the removal day they threatened to take all of our furniture, etc, away (where? I have no idea...) if we did not pay more money there and then. We paid. We had no choice. Add to that a run up of complaints and messages/calls during the day which, looking back, very much appeared in hindsight to have been a ploy all along to get more money out of us. Such things as needing to get more boxes (they wouldn't have been able to to do the job in the time it took if more boxes were brought from Sennen to Falmouth, so we didn't believe a word of it), problems with moving big furniture, not knowing they would have to pack up computers etc, etc. Beforehand there was no communication whatsoever from the company to indicate that doing these things was not included in the price, nor did they give us any paperwork - despite lying (!!) by saying that they brought us paperwork to look at and sign before the date. This did NOT happen, and I can see why - how else could this company have scammed us if they had been upfront? Honesty is not their strong point - they even complained about such things as wearing special Covid protection masks which we had agreed with them, several times, beforehand - and then provided! They took the masks and discarded the clips for them on the floor. Other things we will adding to our list of complaints when we take action are place mats and floor mats left behind, the hosepipe and refuse bin, items from the kitchen being thrown into the garage of the new property and even finding something just thrown onto the front lawn. It took us three weeks to locate everything and we are still having 'surprises' at where things turn up.
The wardrobes were manhandled so badly that an old and precious pine wardrobe has had its' door hinge broken off completely, exposing the bare wood. We have photos to prove this which we will be passing along to the relevant people.
If all of this does not sound bad enough, the worst part of the day came at the end - we were threatened by the boss, Viv, over the phone that if we did not sign insurance papers (of which there had been absolutely no mention of prior to the day of removal) that they would take everything away there and then. Since we were not at the property, due to trying to stay Covid safe, we were in one of the most horrific and vulnerable situations you can imagine. Obviously, one should never, ever feel themselves to be in such a position that to want to take time to READ such forms (which, of course, were very much in favour of the company - as you would expect) would mean losing their furniture and having a verbally abusive boss of a company on the phone shouting (on another phone?) to his removal guys to 'take it all away!' I was in floods of tears, having had heart surgery in the past fearing that I would have a heart attack - such was the enormous threat and stress of what could happen to our things. The wardrobe, even though it is heart breaking to see it broken, feels a 'small thing' compared to this horror. We called the police immediately and they met us at the property to protect us and make sure all of our things were there and nothing had been stolen by this unscrupulous company. Of course, it took us a long time to go through the chaos that they had left everything in, which is why, only now, after three weeks since moving, are we ready (and calm enough after such huge stress) to take things further. When we told the company that we had called the police they skipped off pretty sharpish, leaving the last of our belongings just thrown on the front lawn.
There was also a broken garden plant pot - a big one; which they had completely removed so as to hide the evidence. The point is that if they had been honest and told us of this breakage, it would not have been a problem.
Add to all of this unpleasant texts throughout, blaming us (hilarious!!) for everything - and a boss who told my husband over the phone that he didn't like the sound of him at all, because my husband did not wish to pay more money!
Please, anyone reading this review, don't employ this company - I would hate to think of anyone going through what we have gone through and my health is still not settled yet as a result of all the stress. To West Cornwall Removals; you will hearing more from us in the new year.

Reply from WEST CORNWALL REMOVALS

Dear Chris & Jane Morris,

This is Bradley one of the Directors of the company, I made the trip to Falmouth twice (70 mile round trip) before your removal date leaving an array of packing materials in your shed to ensure you had enough materials to have everything boxed up, ready for transport come moving day - this was not the case, despite accepting our *non packing* option on the quotation, which also means beds/furniture should be dis mantled ready for transport (unless we are instructed otherwise), which was also not the case.

I left the packing materials in your shed to minimise contact due to Covid, something we take very seriously as the owner of the company (my father) has bad asthma, hence why we had no problem purchasing the team of removal men scheduled to carry out your removal with your desired ffp2 masks - which were worn throughout the removal day despite you not being present at both the pick up and delivery addresses, but for extra safety we kept them on.

All communication had to be done by phone on the day whilst you were in your car / away from the property, which was brilliant in terms of Covid safety, but made things difficult for Tyler & his team (Tyler is another Director of the company, who carried out the move from start to finish to ensure the job was done right, as we could tell on the build up of the move from communication you were going to be a difficult customer), with you & Tyler calling each other between 40-50 times on the day of the move, at times shouting at him down the phone and when questioned on the packing (or not packing) you said 'I thought you lot sorted that out'.

On the day, we had to send a driver back to our yard to collect 20 large boxes because packing had not been done, despite opting for a reduced cost non packing option, and rather than load vans full of miscellaneous making it difficult to load the lorry (and for safety of contents in transit), we packed the remainder of the house properly for you, we also dis mantled and re assembled beds, the above two reasons are why there was a charge for additional work carried out.

Our removal blankets sometimes accidentally get left behind, they cost us money, so it wasn't intentional on our part certainly, sorry about that.. %95 of removals the customer is present to delegate which room individual items are to end up at the delivery address, so we had to use our initiative/common sense on this one (as you were not there) with some smaller items, possibly a mix up of some smaller items but Tyler took photographs of every room and all of your large items were placed in the correct place, which is the main thing - the rooms certainly do not look like 'chaos' either, If I can figure how to upload photos on here of how the garage and rooms were left, I will (we have photographs of the wardrobes as well). The guys left because they had finished, nothing to do with anything else.

Anyway although I don't agree with everything you have said, perhaps a lot of this would not of happened if it wasn't for Covid and you were present at the property (which is neither of our fault - Covid!), we would of went over our insurance T's & C's with you (which is standard professional removal company contract), if a pot had been accidentally broken (you did have many pots) we would of showed you, most importantly you would of been able to see us at work, and saw that we are professional, very experienced removal men, as reflected in our other reviews from people we have moved all over the world.

We still haven't heard from you this year yet, but feel free to get in contact and hopefully we can resolve the issues & clear the air on what was a very stressful day for all involved.

Regards - Bradley Wills (Director).

A move from Cornwall to Ireland.

I was moving from Cornwall to Ireland, which involved a long distance journey and a ferry crossing, and everything went as smoothly as possible. They arrived on time, loaded everything up in no time at all. There was regular contact during the journey and no problems whatsoever. Once we arrived at my new home in Ireland they unloaded everything very quickly and were on their way within 3 hours. They provided an excellent and friendly service from start to finish.

West Cornwall Removals were an…

West Cornwall Removals were an incredible service! We had two large trucks drive up to central London with, quite frankly, the A team. Nothing was a problem. They worked incredibly hard and took away the stress of 3 locations across London. The guys packed up everything and turned their trucks west at about 2 am! They then sorted out a stress free storage container ( a service they offer ) not far from our new home in Penzance. Everything was packed into the container well ( no breakages). The rates were very good and the containers seemed almost new. They provided a secure place for our stuff with 24 hour access.
Would absolutely recommend this company. They have a large fleet and can offer pretty much a one stop solution to what could have been and is indeed a stressful move. It’s a fairly long way West Cornwall.

Rapid efficient service

These guys just moved my elderly mum from St Ives to Falmouth, she literally did not need to lift a finger or pack anything, - they did the lot.
Tyler and his team arrived at 5:30 am as agreed and we were on the road 3 hours later.
What a cracking polite bunch of lads full of fun and banter, who just got stuck in and worked as a well oiled machine.

Can highly recommend.
