Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 35 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were highly dissatisfied with product quality, frequently describing the fish as grey, mushy, or slimy, often not resembling actual fish and having an awful taste. Customers consistently reported products were disgusting, rancid, or even tasting like chemicals, and felt packaging was misleading, containing less fish than advertised. Additionally, people frequently encountered issues with texture, describing batter as soggy or rubbery, and the overall product consistency as unpleasant. Some also questioned if products labeled as scampi were actually scampi, often finding a grey congealed mess inside instead.

The fundamental ingredient of a fish…

The fundamental ingredient of a fish pie is fish.

Poor excuse of mash potato covering a thin layer of white sauce with fish flavouring if some sort. NO FISH whatsoever.

More fish in crab stick than in a fisherman’s pie.

No wonder the French keep rebelling to keep their fishing grounds. We clearly have no idea what fish is.

Disgusting.

Fishless

Had one of their Fishermans pies last night, YUK!
They should call it, potato pie. 3 bits of fish was all I could find.
Rest was soggy mash and a sprinkle of rubber, also known as cheese!
Don't waste your money. Cheaper makes are more tasty and bigger amounts. Young's, rubbish🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Boil in the bag Cod in sauce - complete rip-off!

I always thought Young’s were a trusted brand. How wrong was I. Today I bought 4 boil in the bag Cod in sauce pieces and I just couldn’t believe how thin and small this serving was. A total waste of money, and not enough to feed a 2 year old child let alone an adult. Quite frankly Young’s should be ashamed. A total rip off and I will never use their products again, they don’t deserve to survive.

I used to love Young's scampi but the most recent pack I bought was revolting! The coating was ok but the scampi itself was grey, very mushy, and tasted awful. I forgot that I'd also bought some a few weeks ago and threw half of it away for the same reasons as above. I won't forget again.

Pretty peed off at being conned by major manufacturers and rey

Sadly it was a shrivelled fish finger disguised as a cod in beer batter. Why can’t these companies be truthful, they reduce the size but still charge the full price! I will never buy Young’s again but I’m sure I will get a grovelling apology from Youngs begging forgiveness and will compensate me 😊🤔 in my dreams, I’m really pissed off with being conned by another company who makes me cringe with “Oh the packaging and logistics and the fishing nets are more expensive, and because beer has increased the batter is more expensive!! What a load of nonsense, it’s off my chest but I’m still angry 😡

I used to enjoy youngs products but not any more. The taste of youngs 2 extra large beer batter fillets is disgusting and the gastro dine at home extra large fillets is even worse. These products have gone seriously down hill in the taste and smell. They also made me feel sick. I didn't eat much of it as the product is simply not fit. Even my dog wouldn't touch it.

I have tried unsuccessfully to contact…

I have tried unsuccessfully to contact Youngs twice now, once via their contact form and again by direct email, regarding their awful product "Ex large Dine at Home battered Haddock".

It is over a week now and not even an acknowledgement.

I shall NEVER purchase their products again. Especially "Gastro" ones. This is surely a trade description issue. It made me ill all night. Grey fish and horrible batter.

Stay away from Young's 2Fish Steaks in a creamy…

Had purchased 2 Fish Steaks in a creamy butter sauce. All I can say is the fish had a really horrible taste about it. Couldn’t finish eating it, it made me feel sick The sauce was okay nothing special but then it’s mainly water. Over all I will NEVER buy this again and I will be very careful about any purchases from Youngs. Seriously gone down the drain.

The packet was described as scampi

The packet was described as scampi! We certainly couldn't find any inside the insipid hard coating when we eventually prized each lump open. Appalling! Complete waste of money! Never buying Youngs so called FISH products again. Used to be a trusted and well respected company but something has gone terribly wrong. They will soon be out of business unless they can improve their products and restore their previous quality. They must think the buying public are total fools. Total change of management and strategy required if they want to stay in business!

Worst boil in a bag fish ever

Worst boil in a bag fish ever. Brown flat packed formed pieces of "pollock" 8mm thick. If I could upload a photo I would - absolutely dreadful - NEVER again. Youngs should be ashamed of themselves. Invite them to have a party amongst themselves and serve this as the main course! Interesting to see they never respond to comments - hardly surprising as there are so many bad ones.

We had gastro pollock tempura bartered fish. It was Grey in color & essence of fish. A waste of my money. Would have been cheaper to go to my local chippy. The time it takes to cook & the energy it uses. Will not buy it again.

What a horrible product!

I have just attempted to eat Young's gastro tempura battered fish. It's now in the bin.
Tiny sliver of grey, slimy pollack encased in a thick batter which was crisp on the outside, but soggy inside.
I feel totally ripped off. Do not waste your money!
