Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 35 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were highly dissatisfied with product quality, frequently describing the fish as grey, mushy, or slimy, often not resembling actual fish and having an awful taste. Customers consistently reported products were disgusting, rancid, or even tasting like chemicals, and felt packaging was misleading, containing less fish than advertised. Additionally, people frequently encountered issues with texture, describing batter as soggy or rubbery, and the overall product consistency as unpleasant. Some also questioned if products labeled as scampi were actually scampi, often finding a grey congealed mess inside instead.

These chipshop fish is misleading us as…

These chipshop fish is misleading us as if your local fish & chipshop sold muck like this then they would be the worst chipshop in the world.
It should be the law that these manufacturers of so called food should comply to rules & should be prosecuted for production of sickly pig sweal.
They even have the cheek to pack it in a cardboard box instead of a black 🐕 💩 bag as which would be more appropriate for their nasty muck.
Further more, I think that the owners of this company should be forced to eat this 💩 for the rest of there life as a fitting punishment...

Bought a Youngs salmon fillet dinner…

Bought a Youngs salmon fillet dinner meal for one for my invalid wife! Cooked it as told - it was only when the gallon of ‘sauce’ had melted that the piece of salmon could be seen - with a magnifying glass- the size was best described as pathetic!!! Just like burger outlets who show photos of their burgers being 6” thick and you get the thing they actually serve - the phot on the box is taking the jimmy riddle having NO similarity to what you actually get!!!
Useless complaining to youngs - they know the paltry portion they put in! RIP OFF.

Gastro scampi???

Gastro scampi, restaurant quality fish? It's called gastro for a reason. Please let me know what restaurant you eat in so I don't wander in by mistake. Total rubbish, utter garbage, impossible to be worse. Almost inedible. Absolute, total and utter crap.

I am not very impressed with your…

I am not very impressed with your haddock or cod frozen fillets in batter,we have never had this issue before but my husband who is a type one diabetic, and if he eats them his blood sugars double up so he can not enjoy fish and chips on Friday anymore, and all the supermarkets, sell them, and not the lighter battered , frozen fish fillets, but even if they did there is not much difference in carbohydrates and sugar anymore,I think that you need to sort it out,as if more people eat them it might not help them , and they might become a diabetic

Young's Fisherman's Pie

I thought this might be a good frozen standby - but no! There's hardly any fish (actually only 15%), so it's basically rather expensive potato.
I won't purchase this again, however good the offer, and will look more closely at packaging before buying any Young's products in future.

'FORMED' fish !?! Yeuch !

We bought a 440g pack of Young's 'Simply Breaded 4 LARGE cod fillets', as we don't like 'formed' cod pieces. From the front of the pack, everything suggests that these are 'cod fillet'. In artificial light, I couldn't even find any reference to 're-formed'. In daylight, this a.m., I finally found the two lines of lettering, less than 2cm long, saying ' formed' cod fillets in breadcrumbs. I also discover that ( because of binding agents/batter? ) 'cod' makes up only 54% of the product !

Definition: " Cod fillets are vertical cuts from the body, starting at the backbone and working down to the belly."

Clearly, Young's definition differs from this. I feel that I have been misled by their packaging & product description and I would have appreciate a voucher to cover my cost of purchase.

I contacted Young's 'customer care' who just replied with a 'standard' response which made no sense and offered no refund.

Going back 30 years, Young's used to be regarded as the people to buy from, for high-quality frozen fish products. Clearly something has changed for the worse. I had some very inexpensive Aldi fish fingers the next day which WERE made from cod-fillet and were WAY better than the much more expensive Young's product.

I will NEVER buy anything from Young's ever again. They are yet another company who no-longer value their customers' goodwill. Shame.

'Garlic' Gastro Tempura Battered Chunky Cod Fish Fingers

Gastro Tempura Battered Chunky Cod Fish Fingers -
I bought these as a change to the my usual Birds Eye Cod Fish Fingers for fish finger sandwiches for me and a treat for the kids. I expected them to be like a fish finger but of superior quality.
However, I was dismayed and actually disgusted to taste garlic - in a fish finger - really! I checked the ingredients and sure enough there's garlic powder in the product. There is no mention of this other than in the ingredients section. Surely you need to let it be known in the description if a simple humble fish finger albeit one that has been elevated - has garlic in it. Garlic is a strong ingredient and not to everyone's taste especially children. Very, very disappointed - had to cook something else, what a waste of good money. Will revert back to good old Birds Eye. Incidentally, I wrote to Youngs giving them a chance to 'put it right' and 'win back' my custom but they merely responded thanking me for my feedback. Not even a penny voucher offered, so Scrooges to boot.

The products from Young's have been…

The products from Young's have been drastically reduced in quantity and quality for awhile now.
The takeover from the Islamic owned Canadian company has seen a dramatic fall in quality control.
I bought a big batch of the jumbo scampi which was not formed when it was first launched. Several weeks later this same product had changed to be grey formed and really horrible product despite having same label as the initial batches I bought.
I have bought so much fish from this company. It is of inferior quality and cooks badly, especially the salmon dinners. The salmon is always fishy smelling and over cooks, even when cooking for far less time than recommended.
Will never purchase goods from this company again

DISGUSTED !!

DISGUSTED !!! I purchased a box of 4 LARGE cod portions and when I opened them I thought they're not large. Maybe large fish fingers but not way near a fish portion. When cooked in oven they shrunk even further. WILL NOT BE BUYING AGAIN AND I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Inedible fish.

I bought a couple of their Gastro fish bakes in different flavours as they looked quite appetising and last night decided to try the cheese and leek version. The topping and sauce were nice but the fish was disgusting. The bottom of the fish portion was brown and so tough that I could barely saw through it with my knife let alone eat it. In the end I ate barely half of it, the white top part, and the dog had the rest. For the price I expected a quality product but got something far from it. I dread to think what the other one will be like.

Gastro ?....A JOKE !

This was the 1st time that we have bought a Youngs "Gastro Restaurant Quality Fish".
A true INSULT to Restaurants.
It was DISGUSTING, unedible and to such a degree that our cat ran away from it when we put it down for her.
Sent E mail with images to see what they say as an excuse.

Fish pie surprise.

The surprise was...... ....no fish.

What we had could best be described as reconstituted mashed potato.

Now I come to think of it? It wasn’t even a pie.

Youngs Mariners Pie

Bought a couple of packets of Mariners pie for the microwave. When cooked following the instructions, the pie itself was acceptable as you could taste the parsley sauce and find a few chunks of fish but the pie was rather full of sweetcorn. The biggest problem was the cellophane top to the pie as it was a very thin film that was stuck solidly to the paper tray and could not be peeled off. In the end, I had to cut a slit in it and take it off the tray in sections. For a person with some physical disablility it is a very awkward chore to do and whilst it is being done, then the pie is cooling.
This experience has made me wary of even trying youngs other sea foods.

Tonight i bought a "Gastro"…

Tonight i bought a "Gastro" Cod,Spinach,Cheese & Potato Gratin From asda, im a big burly 51 year old with a big appetite but as it was late in the evening i bought my first ever ready meal, I now feel like i have been robbed by Youngs, The meal for one (meal thats a joke) had ZERO Cod or any other type of fish, not even a flake!! I dug around delibrately looking for the fish but sadly the only fish included in this meal was in the picture on the front of the box, maybe someone forgot to add it or there was no fish delivery that day? there was definatly no fish inside the box.
So if you are ever tempted to buy YOUNGS GASTRO COD, SPINACH & POTATO GRATIN don't bother because the fish has swam on past!!
I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED TO HEAR FROM YOUNGS with an explanation! I DIDN'T MISS IT....IT WASN'T THERE!!!!
OH! THE 1 STAR IS FOR THE POTATO THAT WAS IN ABUNDANCE AND WAS ALSO COOKED!
