They refused to give us the car because the driving license wasn't "valid", even though our driving license is international and we've never had any problems with it, both in Italy as well as other countries.
I sent them three emails and never got a reply, and when I tried calling them they hung up on me.
Very unfriendly and unhelpful staff, I would give them 0 stars if I could. I'm glad that I ended up getting a car at a different car rental after hearing stories about them scamming people. Do not recommend!

One of the worst experiences I've had so far. Tried renting from their companies twice (Ecovia, Autovia) only to end up having to rent from a different company. First time they argued the delay of 30 minutes meant they no longer had the car/any car of the same category and I'd thus have to pay double as much for another; second time they claimed I could only rent the car if I showed them a "credit card" (explained that my bank doesn't issue credit card, only debit). They were perfectly capable of blocking the required deposit, yet found issue enough in this to lose my full booking and send me away a second time (quite late in the evening). Feels more like a scam company that profits from taking money for the booking, then making sure their customers don't actually go through with the booking, as can be seen in various other reviews from other customers. Hopefully the issue will solve itself by them going broke eventually, if the word spreads around loud enough.

Avoid Autovia – Totally Dishonest
I rented a car from Autovia at Milan Airport (Autovia had a deal with Ryanair). Unfortunately, the car broke down after just 2 hours - it was only then that I realised it had 85,000 miles on the clock. After trying to restart the car (helped by a friendly lorry driver) I followed Autovia's instructions and called roadside assistance, who needed to jump-start the car. I then returned the car to Autovia immediately for a replacement (this cost me the day and a night in a hotel).
Under their own terms and conditions (Art 3 of the T&Cs you sign at the counter), breakdown assistance is covered, yet six weeks after I returned, they sent me an invoice for €250 plus fuel. They then deducted the money from my credit card without consent (they actually charged me twice).
Their justification for the charge was that THEY could find no issue with it, which is obviously baseless: why would I want to give up a day of my holiday if I could just restart the car (and I know a lot about cars).
This company is totally dishonest, and I am now pursuing legal action against them. Avoid them at all costs - they are the worst car rental company I have ever used.

Not recommended at all. Bad service, disrespectful. We received a very scratched car and broken headlights. We ordered a car with a large trunk and received a car with a small trunk.. Long wait for the shuttle and it was hard to find it. On the way back we waited for the clerks for more than an hour from 8:00 to 9:15 and none of them came. We had to leave a key and in the end we received a fine for fuel, even though we received the car with an empty tank. We sent them emails and they don't respond. I don't recommend doing business with them, run away.

Dear Autovia Team,
I would like to confirm that we were satisfied with the service provided by Autovia. It was particularly convenient that the shuttle bus took us from the airport to the Autovia location.
The car we rented, a Lancia Ypsilon, was a budget option, and it met our expectations accordingly. However, I would like to leave one remark regarding the additional insurance offered at the desk. While it is understandable to offer such options, the price of the additional insurance was extremely high. Since we had already purchased insurance during the reservation and did not perceive additional value in the offer, we decided not to purchase it.
Overall, we were pleased with the new condition of the car and the competitive price. Based on this positive experience, we plan to rent from Autovia again in the future.
Thank you for your service.
Best regards,
EV
Watch this company close. The cars are so old and cwap. So full of dents you don't know where to start when taking photos to prove you evidence before you leave, just in case they charge you. Which is what they told me they would do. On my return they asked me for the contract which I had to go and collect from my wife, leaving the grumpy staff member with the car. When I got back to the car he showed me a fresh keyed scratch on the passenger door.. he told me I didn't arrange the insurance with them which I had agreed as I arranged insurance with easyjet. I'll let you think the rest.. Great business model idea folks... let make money out of badly dented cars..
The car I received was only 3/4 full of fuel and the attendant said if I took a photo it would be OK on return. I brought it back over this amount but eben then the attendant at pisa made me leave the airport and fill to the top before accepting it. I am out €40. The car also wasn't what I had booked and had quite a few previous scratches etc.
This company’s moral compass is so broken I’m surprised they are still in business. Do NOT use unless you want your money to be “stolen” and no car provided.
When we arrived at Autovia in Malpensa airport, we were told our booking had been cancelled because we were two hours later than the booking time. Several other persons who arrived at the same time were told the same, but given various other times. One group included a family with a young baby. When we all asked if they could assist with finding a solution, the despicable and rude agent asked “am I your slave?” And “that’s your job.” If he isn’t fired, it is clearly apparent that this is their company culture and training.
If we hadn’t booked through Expedia unlike the others, our money would still be held by Autovia in a foreign country with little way of any recourse.
On top of this, their shuttle service is archaic. They just order a shuttle and someone picks up whoever and you can be waiting for several shuttles as he’ll pick up others they haven’t even called ahead.
Overall, we ended up going with another company last minute waiting time, and having to pay a premium due to last minute notice and car availability. On top of this, I think if I wanted to donate I’d choose a worthy charity.

Collection of the car took 1:40.'
1 - I rented the car via easyJet, and the information provided and supplied by Autovia Ecovia Furgovia needed to be corrected. I arrived at the Easyjet terminal, and the information on the voucher referred to the wrong terminal. I tried to contact the provided number insistently, and after 7/8 times, someone told me to walk to the shuttle designated area and wait a few minutes. I waited for another 45' - the drive to the car rental took another 15'. Upon collecting the car, I argued with the agent about the delay, and he kept telling me that I should not share my experience with him, nor could he change the collection time on the contract ( as I had already lost more than an hour because of their delay ). At the end of the paper transactions and handing the car key, he turned into a rude and unprofessional agent. The parking is inside an old hangar, and there are no numbers on the car park, so when I asked him where my car was parked, he replied: "on the left-hand side, "as if on the left-hand side there were only two cars parked instead that hundred ... I had to search for the car randomly...
LINATE AIRPORT
I tried to contact Linate Autovia Ecovia Furgovia on May 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd by phone to get the return address of the vehicle. No one in any of these days picked up the phone. Upon arriving in Linate car rental return, I could not find any sign for Autovia Ecovia Furgovia, so I parked on the 4th floor and looked for an agent. I asked other car rental companies, but they did not know their location. By then, I saw other tourists struggling with the same problem. We walked into the terminal and found two agents in a booth hidden behind columns, so they were not visible, nor were there any signs in the parking lot or in the airport to indicate where to go.
The agent apologized for the trouble, and when I asked to review the car and close the contract bill she told me no worries it will be done and sent to you later. I told her I was not particularly eager to do this way but she insisted that no one was available to perform a car return check ...
After 3 weeks I have not yet received the closing of the contract and most importantly the € 500 deposit are not back onto my amex card yet. I will wait another week before take legal action against the scammers Autovia Ecovia Furgovia
I was a little apprehensive initially using a car hire firm I hadn't heard off especially with all the horror stories you read but I took a chance after seeing the rating on Kayak & I have to admit I wouldn't hessiate to use Autovia again. That being said I would still always recommend taking videos and photo of the car condition to be extra safe, it was reassuring that the car was modern and clean.
Really competative prices and the member of staff who served us was super helpful giving advice on routes to avoid awkward toll roads etc.
I had a less than satisfactory experience renting a car from Autovia. Upon arrival, I was surprised to learn that an International Driving Permit (IDP) was mandatory, a detail that was neither highlighted during the booking process nor communicated clearly beforehand. When I could not produce an IDP, I was informed that I would be charged an additional fee amounting to roughly 30% of my rental contract’s total cost.
This lack of transparency regarding essential requirements and fees not only caused inconvenience but also led to unexpected financial burden. I am disappointed with Autovia for not being upfront about their policies and would caution potential customers to double-check all requirements and hidden charges to avoid similar experiences.
Stay away from this scam company if you don't want to get robbed! They will charge your credit card for some made up damage months after the rental, even if they already returned the deposit and you don't agree with any damage. I was charged 107 EUR 4 months after the rental.
SCAMMERS!
THE GOOD STUFF - £20 A DAY! Wow. I cost almost as much to park my car than to rent it.
THE BAD STUFF - CONTACT DETAILS – Phone numbers provided on booking sheet did not work.
LOCATION – I didn’t bother to tick the “Airport Counter Only” box because many Italian airport have car rental companies right outside the terminal, but this one is FIVE MILES off-site (mind you we only waited 5 minutes for a shuttle each time though the transfer took 10 minutes).
PROCESSING – Despite a fairly quick pick-up from the shuttle (and being the first in line at the counter), it took ONE HOUR to get checked in (It would have been double that for the person behind me). The desk agent apologized for the “slow system”, but it seemed as if every screen created total confusion in the agent
VEHICLE – The vehicle was quite old with 65,000 miles and LOTS of body damage (so I had to take lots of photos to make sure that I wasn’t blamed for any of it). Also, the engine had a loud rattle which was not only very annoying, but also added stress that the car might breakdown ruining our holiday.
Awful, cheater company, do not use at all !!!
Autovia extra charged us and asked to pay a 107,99 euro extra for we do not know what, because preivously we paid everything to Rentalcars with full insurance! They did not want to change the name on the rentals or getting contact with rentalcars or find any solutions. Ecovia/Autovia is not a reliable partner, they are asking extra money from their customers for nothing..So I was scammed by Autovia.
DO NEVER TRUST A COMPANY THAT HIDES FEES!
I can confirm, that the staff simply ask you to sign an electronic device and you are not able to see on paper what you have signed. The staff doesn't show you any piece of paper or any electronic version prior you sign.
They hide extra fee's from you!
Then you will be charged with many extra charges and penalties. So you will pay at least double compare for that price what you were previously paid.
They will try to create additional fees wherever they can !!!!!
