Fantastic experience
Fantastic experience! Coffin Mew were the perfect partners in assisting on the sale and purchase of our latest property. Communication was good and they moved the whole process from start to finish in under 8 weeks. Natalie kept us well informed in steps we needed to take to ensure we could move quickly to catch the stamp duty holiday. Would recommend.
Couldn't recommend Coffin Mew more, but most importantly Kirsten!
We were recommended a solictor by our building developers to which we met Kirsten who works for Coffin Mew. She was incredibly polite and speedy with our work which was important for us as we needed to meet the stamp duty deadline. As first buyers we obviously had a overwhelming amounts of questions, Kirsten did not get frustrated by this and was incredibly accommodating of our concerns. Couldn't recommend Coffin Mew more, but most importantly Kirsten!
Great experience working with Emily B
It was an absolute pleasure working with Emily B on the purchase of our first new home! She was very professional, hard working and explained everything to us extremely well! A very good conveyancer compared to the others we know! Will definitely be recommending her to friends and family!
Terrible after service
Coffin Mew were our original solicitors in the purchase of our new home, 18months later we have come to sell our property and they have retained allour information on their "portal" which we cannot access.
We have tried calling every day for 3 days and keep being told "someone will call you back" and we are still yet to have a call back, once they have taken your money they don't care and it is really dissapointing , we wouldn't recommend them or use them again.
No complaints from Grandpa

Thanks Emily for providing excellent service with efficient communication and support throughout my house purchasing process.
Poor Communicators
I never write reviews but am forced to do with this Solicitors for the bad and unprofessional service I have received at their hands. Really bad communication and they have withheld a large amount of my mothers estate with NO explanation despite being asked 3 times. I consider that very arrogant and have now lost all patience and pleasant communication with them which is their own fault. Complaints dept. red buttoned my calls and are just as bad communicators as the Solicitor himself. Blaming covid for their laziness is an excuse I find unpalatable.

I wish i could give it 0 stars
I wish i could give it 0 stars.
Coffin Mew used to have a brilliant reputation and in the past many generations in my family have previously used Coffin Mew. I have used them 3 times previously my self for buying and selling of property.
My parents have stopped using them and this time when i needed to use a solicitor i decided not to use them. Unfortunately, an error has been found with the land registry, which Coffin Mew are responsible for, from when i purchased the property but was unaware of until i have tried to sell the property.
Not only have i had no acknowledgement from Coffin Mew, an apology is not possible because they dont want to take responsibility but the lack of basic customer care and lack of communication is utterly appalling. I have been truly disgusted by their lack of compassion for my situation, they seemed to have very little respect for the time scales and showed no effort to assist in resolving the issue so that i didn't lose the sale plus a lot of money.
I haven't had replies to emails and never had call backs to phone messages left with reception staff even when i asked for it to be escalated and asked for call backs or emails from senior partners in the firm.
When i have tried to complain officially, they have responded within in their promised time scales for their complaints department which is the first time i have had that experiences from them since July 2020. Im sure from reading the other reviews though, that they must be a very busy part of the firm.
I never write reviews for anything but i strongly feel that Coffin Mew don't deserve to still be offering this kind of service and causing the impact to people in they way they are, with out seeming to care. I don't know how they sleep at night, their morale code is completely wrong.

The worst solicitors
Absolutely shocked and appalled that my family are still waiting for updates on my grandmothers will as it has been 9 months since the estate has been sold and around 3/4 months since beneficiary information was given. ZERO communication from anyone and the shoddiest experience in the world. I am unsure how it’s even legal to keep clients so out of the loop. I emailed your office two months ago and so have many other members of my family and we have all received nothing in response. What are you all going to do about it? I am absolutely at my wits end.

Fantastic from start to finish.
Fantastic from start to finish.
We have bought 3 homes now and Coffin Mew have been by far the easiest to deal with.
We first reserved our new build home secured on the ‘Easy mover scheme’ May 2019.... fast forward to September 2019 - 3 weeks before the agreed completion the buyers buyer dropped out.
We had a very complicated buyer for our property (lifetime mortgage) and it was an immense amount of work that had been put in.
Our solicitor (Charlotte) and her team (Maxine and Fiona) were fantastic, she always kept us informed - the paper work was neatly organised to read (which massively helped).
We managed to secure another purchaser but had lost our initial home, so we then had a very complicated break in moving out and waiting for home to be built (Completed November 2020). Charlotte was wonderfully understanding and helpful with this process.
I was alway kept up to date with what was needed when / what I needed to do etc.
I’m never moving again after this ordeal but if I were I would 100% use Coffin Mew again.

Amazing service for new build buyers
Charlotte was our conveyancer throughout our purchase and was knowledgeable, quick to help us with queries and never needed to be chased. When Charlotte was out of the office her inbox was being monitored by an assistant who would respond same-day to give us an update if they could.

Very poor commincations
I am not a client of Coffin Mew, but I am buying a house in Gosport which is progressing very slowly. The person selling the house to me is using Coffin Mew. My solicitor has been chasing Coffin Mew for some time for a move date.
Getting information from Coffin Mew is like trying to get blood from a stone. They do not answer phones, or respond to emails in a timely fashion.
Frankly speaking, if this is what I am seeing a person trying to buy a house, I would suggest that Coffin Mew seems to be doing a dis-service to its clients.
The lack of communication is starting to make me think there might be an issue - hence I am starting to look at a plan B.
Overall a very frustrating experience
Overall a very frustrating experience. When my original solicitor in Gosport was ill my file was passed to their Brighton office without my consent. The solicitor handling my house sale then sent out new papers as if I was a new client and asked me for a further deposit of £50. It seemed to me he never read the original file. We found the property had been wrongly registered at the Land Registry when I purchased. This was an error on the part of my then solicitor. I had to press Coffin Mew to get the resulting Restriction lifted. I managed to get my former solicitor to admit his error and the Restriction was lifted. I had to be very much proactive because the solicitor was not. He then suggested I take out an indemnity insurance to indemnify my buyer against anything relating to right of access as the 1971 Land Registry office copy of the original Conveyance did not have rights of way marked in the colours referred to within the body of the document. This would have cost me £125. However, at my insistence he applied to the Land Registry for a copy of the original document they have on microfiche which shows the relevant rights of way in full colour. I believe this cost £3. Finally, he failed to present me with his fee account prior to completion. As a result, I could not see the overcharge he made before disbursements were made. He then agreed to refund the overcharge but told me that this would take at least 3 days and be made in 2 separate payments - all for £52. I could not recommend Coffin Mew to anyone making a sale or purchase of a house unless they have a fair knowledge of the relevant law.
Awful Solicitor
Awful Solicitor, constant mistakes, we were recommended this solicitor firm by many people including the housing developer and cannot underestimate the disappointment we felt. We were mixed up with another client and told wrong information. We did most the work for them, chasing the various parties they are meant to be managing, so a massive waste of money, not really sure what we paid them for. Is never there to answer the phone and is always on constant annual leave.
Our contract exchange was put on a 3 week hold because they didnt bother telling our buyers solicitor a very vital piece of information which almost led to a pull out! We were finding out a lot of activity from our estate agent over the solicitor.
Not impressed at all and wont be using again. We found they are making their own reviews on ratemysolicitor.com as we found one done in our name (having never been on the website before) just poor!

Stay well clear!!
This is the first occasion I have felt strongly enough about something( positively or negatively!)to leave a written review but feel compelled to comment on my recent experience with Coffin Mew which was, quite frankly, diabolical.
We have recently used the company for conveyancing - an experience I would never repeat and urge others not to do. Their lack of communication and associated arrogance is astounding and this makes what is a very stressful experience to begin with all the more so.
The particular conveyancer who was handling our case NEVER ( without exception) replied to an e- mail or answered her phone( landline or mobile)unless she was requesting payment ( which they require upfront).
Even on the day of completion, communication was non- existant - and she omitted to pay the estate agents fees, leaving us with additional work/ stress!! I might add that we paid very handsomely to be treated like this - and it has left a very bitter taste!
Awful!!!!
Terrible experience using this firm to buy & sell! From calculating the stamp duty incorrectly, to not getting our purchase completed until 6pm, it was a complete comedy of errors! So unprofessional & incompetent, would never ever use them again! AVOID!!!!!
Not sure how this behaviour is acceptable
Looking through the recent reviews seems like I'm not the only one but something is really wrong with this company! Previously used Charles Lucas Marshall for 2 property purchases and tried to use them for another but gave up and removed my instruction after a month of being ignored with no e-mails or calls being returned. I'm now using another solicitor and still having a terrible experience just trying to get my original deeds from Coffin Mew. It's been another month of again being ignored, fobbed off, passed from person to person. Going to have to give up and just pay for new copies. Do not waste your time with this outfit

Disgraceful Services
Used to be very good when they were Charles Lucas and Marshal
NOW total rubbish! No one answers the phones, meant to exchange last week, funds transferred but could't get hold of them. After 3 days got the mobile No of a partner who did exchange
Disgrace

Avoid like the plague
Our buyers unfortunately used this firm for conveyancing. We were supposed to exchange yesterday but they completely ignored this and didn't even ask our buyer to transfer their deposit until the morning of the move, preventing the exchange from taking place on the arranged date. They then took over 3 hours to initiate the transfer to our solicitors on the day of the move, leaving us and our movers waiting around for hours while the funds were transferred up the chain. I would never use this company myself and suggest you look elsewhere. Coffin Mew have been totally useless.

Disappointed with their service as a first time buyer
Disappointed with their service as a first time buyer. No allocated client caseload, which meant that each time I called a different solicitor would deal with my matter. I did not feel welcome when I contacted them over the phone and I received 3 different quotes for the same service. When I spoke to a manger I was informed that "I was the only customer" to experience difficulties with them. Please do your homework regarding solicitors.
