Keretoconus Patient

I have been suffering from keretoconus for almost 16 years. My sight over the last 6 months started to become more of a concern to me as I wasn't achieving a good level of vision through hard contact lenses. After researching online for consultants that have experience in my condition I found Mr Shortt, I chose to see him based on other reviews that were left by his patients.
When I visited Mr Shortt for the first time I left the consultation truly feeling that I was dealing with the best person for my condition. He was sympathetic and understood the frustrations I was having with my vision. Some weeks after the initial consultation I had a corneal transplant on my right eye and I am delighted with the improvements to my vision and the follow up care has been excellent. I am scheduled to have a corneal transplant on my left eye in the coming days and I am not at all nervous as I know I am in safe hands. For other sufferers with my condition, don't look any further than Mr Shortt.

Excellent, personalized care

I saw Mr Shortt following multiple rounds of chalazions. I was frustrated as I had sought treatment and assistance with prevention via multiple visits to the Moorfields Eye Hospital, which sent me home with the same pamphlet every time. Rather than treating my condition as an unfortunate, minor and basically intractable issue (as had the staff at Moorfields), Mr Shortt discussed at length the specific reasons why this might be affecting me and developed a tailored plan of treatment that has helped to mitigate the problem substantially. He treated me with care and respect, and his personable style put me at ease. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

Consulatation & Corneal Graft Procedure

I met Alex after carrying out research in to some of the leading consultants and surgeons in the UK specialising in the above, including those at Moorfields. The prospect of the procedure i needed was very nerving and recall i was extremely inquisitive and wanting to find out as much information as i could prior to any procedure. All my queries were answered by Alex which helped give me much more confidence in advance. The entire process from consultation, leading up to and procedure and post treatment has been excellent. I have made a recommendation to a work colleague who has a close family member with a similar condition and they now will be making an appointment with him.

Extremely professional and caring eye-health professional

It is with great satisfaction that I would like to recommend Mr. Alex Shortt as a unique professional in the field of ophthalmology. I paid him a visit to consult on a specific challenge I was experiencing and he dedicated much of his precious time over two consultations to check my eye and eyeglasses not only for a specific condition I had brought up but also to ensure the overall health of my vision and its sustainability were in order. He took the necessary time to identify the general landscape of my condition using state-of-the-art technology, and worked with me to help me recover both in the short-term as well as the long-term. In addition, Mr. Shortt is a very personable and polite professional. All in all, I would like to recommend Mr. Shortt as a truly caring, patient-centric ophthalmologist.

The Highest Standards of Care

Alex has looked after my eye for a number of years now- in what have been extremely difficult circumstances. I can honestly say the care I've received has been outstanding. Nothing has ever been too much trouble, he has taken the time to explain everything in detail, and has gone above and beyond on multiple occasions to ensure I get everything I need. He has always treated me respectfully and ensured we have made decisions together. I'll always be grateful to Alex for the amazing care I've received. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone else going through Cornea problems.

Highly skilled and trustworthy surgeon

When I came to Alex I had very bad epithelial ingrowth in my eye. It was so bad that my vision was severely impaired in that eye. I had a very bad experience with another surgeon in Ireland before I came to Alex to help. I was quite distressed by this time after the bad experiences and complications following my surgeries in Ireland and Alex was excellent. He was extremely calming and took a huge interest in my case. Once I came to Alex I felt I was in good hands.

I had to see Alex number of times before and after my surgery to remove the epithelial cells. He was very informative, supportive and helpful throughout the whole experience. He checked in a number of times directly following the surgery.

He restored my faith in surgeons and I feel greatly indebted to him. I would 100 percent recommend Alex to anyone.

Fantastic service and human touch!

I came to Alex with a very bad viral conjunctivitis that had affected all members in my household. In my case, I had a bad experience at NHS where they didn't diagnose correctly and made me go through unnecessary tests.

Alex was very calming and helpful, there is something about him that makes you feel safe, understood and overall in good hands.
He run all tests and made a correct diagnosis, the virus had produced a membrane under my eyelid that had affected my cornea and my vision and he removed this painlessly. All other doctors before had missed this and therefore my cornea took a long time to heal after removal.

I had to see Alex several times due to the severity of the condition, and all I can see is he was always helpful, willing, even on weekends answering texts and calling to check on me. He really did go out of his way to make us feel comfortable with the treatment.

I want to undertake laser surgery to correct my vision in the near future and I won't let anyone else do it! I would certainly recommend Alex for his professionalism and the human touch that is much needed when not feeling well.
