Just finding my feet after many years…
Just finding my feet after many years without going to a Gym but I am optimistic about what lies ahead

“Cardio upgrade” without upgrading the spin room!
JD recently advertised on their social media that they had a cardio upgrade including new spin bikes but they completely excluded upgrading the room dedicated to cardio - the spin room.
The bikes in the spin room in JD Cumbernauld have been needing replaced for well over a year. Various emails have been exchanged with head office and management about the bikes but they are only ever “patch” repaired.
The bikes are completely inconsistent with numerous faults and problems.
NONE of the existing bikes are working great, there are a few (approx 10-12) that are rideable but still with difficulty. Even the ones that are “passable” are so below par, they all have different problems… some have a really stiff lever making it difficult to transition between effort levels, some of the bike resistance levels are far too hard making it unusable, some of the clocks don’t show output, one has a dodgy cleat clip and they are all completely inconsistent making it difficult to track progress. There are more attendees than “working” bikes (testament to your instructor - not the gym) which means when you turn up there’s a chance of not getting a bike at all, making the motivation to attend pretty hard to keep up.
The instructor Kelly does a fabulous job of encouraging us all to make the most of it and to try our best to get our classes in but the most recent upgrade of cardio kit while EXCLUDING the spin room which is a whole room dedicated to CARDIO is completely disheartening. It’s like the spin class attendees are not cared about at all.
It’s not like these complaints and constant problems have only just been discovered, myself and my class mates have been trying to raise awareness of the lack of standard in the spin studio for well over a year. Super disappointing!

Poorly maintained gym and most members have no gym manners. Rubbish everywhere.

No toilets or basic hygiene facilities
Signed up with the opening offer. Gym looks great however flooded with kids with tripods recording themselves. All felt very fake. The really bad bit was needing the toilet to find all toilets out of order along with the saunas and showers. No basic hygiene facilities in a gym is seriously poor. No staff to ask for nearest toilets. Safe to say I cancelled and won’t be back.
I joined this gym a week ago
I joined this gym a week ago, I absolutely love the variety of equipment and the aesthetic of the gym, but if I’m being honest, it’s biggest selling point and my favourite part is definitely the sauna! I love that it’s in the changing room, so you have privacy 💖 really good value for money. Only down side I would say is I don’t see many staff wondering round, which would be helpful if you needed assistance upstairs, also equipment could do with being cleaner / more cleaning stations with sprays, however as a newb to this gym maybe I just can’t find them! All in all would still say the pros way out weigh the cons and I am loving the experience.

I have always liked JD and have been a member in the past. I recently joined again due to the selection of classes however after my recent body pump class I was reminded why I left. The class was done in a dark studio so you couldn't really see what you were doing and they plates are a nightmare to get on and off the bar during a fast paced class. Not ideal

JD have taken 20 pounds off me instead of the 10 pounds for signing up, I have messaged the gym explaining the issue and have been completely ignored days later. Please send me my money back.
RESPONSE to REPLY FROM JD GYMS
I emailed the Wythenshawe gym on 26 August and have had no reply in nine days. I've also left a voicemail with no callback. This is the first response I've had from JD Gyms through any channel.
For accuracy: I was charged £10 twice on sign-up, not £20 as a single payment. One charge was authorised, the second was not.
I've now raised a dispute with my credit card provider for the duplicate charge.
I will update this review with the outcome.
